Mat Posted March 13 Posted March 13 11.5 sacks in 2022 for the Pats and not much since including 0 for the Chiefs after he was traded to them last season. He is only 26 so it's a low risk signing that could pay off
NJWolverEagle11 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 UM fan and was honestly surprised he went rd 2 to NE that yr. Haven't tracked him at all since but hopefully he can bring something to the table. We're likely gonna be limited to the second wave FAs so hopefully one can pan out 1
VeeMak Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Uche. Sounds like an STD one might pick up in the South Pacific. "I did enjoy the tropical islands, the sugar beaches, and the crystal clear water. The native foods with the fresh fruits were delightful and the women were eager to serve and please the blue eyed stranger from a far land. I could have lived out my life in that small fishing village, but alas, I had to return to the homeland. However, I will always have my fond memories and the occasional uche flare up as a reminder of my time in that quaint place from another time” 2
Eagles_ftw Posted March 13 Posted March 13 The hell are they doing, they're just signing a bunch of players who aren't even good enough to be classified as mid, if cap is such a problem that we couldn't retain CJGJ why are they wasting money on crap like this?
SkippyX Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I don't like that he is tiny. 240 is really small for D-line when even the small speed guys are usually 255 or so. Nolan Smith is about 240 but he is an athletic freak who shoves 300lb guys around. You can't assume this guy also has that ability. I do find it strange that people foam at the mouth for draft picks who have 10 sacks for Georgia Tech or Florida but a guy who had 12 1/2 for the Patriots has to be useless.

It's a one-year deal...

Kz! Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Honestly, this is kind of like the Huff signing if you look at the numbers. Uche's been a bench warmer for most of his career, but had one really good season of over 10 sacks. Only difference is, Huff's big season came in a contract year, fortunately for him, Uche's didn't. Really no harm in the deal considering it's for one year. If he sucks, like most of his career, there are no cap implications, if he's good like in 2022, it's a bargain. 1

I was always under the impression that one year deals still count toward the cap for the year they're signed for (although admittedly all the cap stuff always makes my head hurt).

Yeah, it'll count against this year's cap, I just mean there are no long term ramifications. It's not like we're locked into a Bryce Huff situation, we're on a cheap, barely above minimum one-year deal.
BayAreaLennie Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Until the regular season, only the top 51 contracts count against the cap. Not sure how much this deal is for, but definitely could be low enough that it does not qualify as top 51. This deal is simply inconsequential from a salary cap perspective. 1

It's barely counting against the cap (if at all). They're just signing cheap players with the hope that they pan out, but could easily be cut before the season starts without repercussions.
brkmsn Posted March 13 Posted March 13 This signing is interesting. Once again, Fangio might want to see him play off-ball since he was kind of a tweener in college. After not appreciating the Baun signing (at the time) last season, I'm trying not to make the same mistake. There's no way of knowing what to expect just yet, but he does have versatility that Vic likes and can rush, blitz, and drop into coverage. He's a bit on the shorter side. 2

It is hard to appreciate a guy who for several seasons did not do anything. But with our Defense a situational rusher can contribute...Maybe.

That info is in the pinned free agency tracker thread. He signed a 1 year contract for $1.75M with only $750K guaranteed. It was already reported that it is not enough to qualify for the compensatory pick formula.
birdman#12 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 I think some of you guys need to step back and look at this signing in a different way. The eagles pro scouting department is tasked, right now, with finding guys who are lying under the radar a bit. Young guys, drafted high, who were not given the proper development time or were not used in the best manner to take advantage of their talents. Or they were injured and basically given up on too early. Don't just look at the stats or listen to the idiot media. Guys are drafted in the first 3 rounds for a reason and may have gone into a lousy situation or bad coaching and never reach their potential. This is what the eagles are good at.....and I believe, it's why they acquired Kenyon Green, Davis-Price, Lewis Cine,, Jahan Dotson, Byron Young, Zach Baun now Josh Uche. The eagles coaches are very good at developing young talent. 'So some of these signing may seem inconsequential, but Green, Cine, Young and Uche could play critical roles this upcoming year. 2
