The hell are they doing, they're just signing a bunch of players who aren't even good enough to be classified as mid, if cap is such a problem that we couldn't retain CJGJ why are they wasting money on crap like this?

The Eagles obviously have no idea what they are doing. Evidenced but their lack of recent success.

JAG, STer, or positional battle/roster guy.

Yeah can’t see much more than that from him to be honest. This doesn’t move the needle at all.

Maybe watch some film. That's the only way you will "see" anything until we "see" what he does as an Eagle.

As I said earlier ... this could be a Vic pick and he may have a plan to put him in a position to succeed even if it's not how other teams used him. But it's way too early to say whether or not a needle moves. We should have learned that with Baun.

Two reasons pop to mind (1) the roster needs to get to 90 by the start of Training Camp, so "camp bodies” are needed, and (2) Howie is approaching this like a roulette bettor.  He is placing bets at various places on the board with the knowledge that most of them will not be winners, but collectively the ones that do win (provide a return) will produce enough upside that the collective wagers are exceeded by the collective winnings.

As a specific example, Howie signed three ILBs last offseason, and one was a bust, one was a modest positive, and one was a home run. In aggregate a clearly winning suite of bets.

I’ve watched some film of him. He can rush the passer (or has done with success in the past) but he’s not good against the run. And right now we already have one of those players on the roster who can’t get on the field.

Why do you say he's not good against the run? I'll be honest. Outside of highlight videos, I haven't tried to study him as a player. So I'm kind of limited to what other people (who have) have to say. People aren't saying he's bad vs the run. In fact, the opposite is being said. For example. PFF gave him a grade of 70.2 in run defense (41st out of 211 edge qualifiers ranked). Compare that to Bryce Huff (60.2 run defense grade / 102nd rank), Josh Sweat (69.3 / 48th) and Nolan Smith (77.6 / 14th). No pre-draft scouting report lists his run defense as a weakness and that college highlight video shows a lot of ability there. He is shorter than people typically want from an Edge and that may determine when and how he gets used. He really isn't a DE like Josh Sweat, but he is an OLB, like Reddick and Nolan Smith. Huff is more of a DE and seems more effective when he isn't standing up.

Again, just because Uche has so far been used as an edge/OLB, I think we should wait and see how Fangio views his skillset. Vic may have plans to test him as an off-ball LB or as a versatile piece that can line up in different ways. But I haven't seen any evidence that supports your claim that he is not good against the run.

I’ll be honest I can’t remember where I saw or heard it. I think it was in ESPs breakdown of Uche where he quoted stats and Uche was rated really poorly against the run. It seems like he was a situational pass rusher with mixed success? 1 very good year, 1 very encouraging year as a rookie and then 2 down years.
