Howie specifically stated they would not be targeting a specific position out of need but rather take the best player on their board. We have a loaded roster now (albeit with a few holes with some departures but still we have others already in place to step in at most of those spots). It makes sense to add the best TALENT to the roster. And Campbell is somewhat unique … he could be used in a variety of ways. Biggest concern is the injury status but he was checked by our medical staff multiple times leading up to the draft.

Obviously he's still in the rehab phase, but he's well past the shoulder sling phase. If you watch him on draft night, that shoulder is not an issue. He only needs to stick to the rehab to regain his full strength. Participating in camp should not be an issue. At worst, they may just protect him from a couple things until they feel he's ready for full tackle football. We should get to see him play in preseason games. I mean ... I'm really not concerned, personally.

I don’t disagree bud and look the last few years Howie has gone more towards BPA and it has yielded really good results. I’m just concerned about CB2, S and DE but I do get the BPA approach.

IF this kid can stay healthy, I think he has the potential to be a special football player.

I was hoping we'd have one of the top CBs either drop to us in rd 2 or we make a move up to get one (like we did DeJean last year). Thought how cool would that be to add a rookie to two 2nd year guys and have the trio grow together for the next several years. And for all we know that may have been the plan but Washington grabbed Amos 3 spots before our pick (we had him in for a top 30 visit so we were likely legitimately interested).

But I will also say and have been saying for some time now, I do think we take a small step backwards this upcoming season but Howie probably feels the moves he made this offseason were in the best interest to have us competing for another championship in a year and for several years.

The way to build a championship roster is taking the #1 LB on your board who will be a star player for 10 years over the 5th, 6th, or whatever corner (who will be the 2nd corner opposite Q) who would be a decent starter (who will be 1st round money) or 3rd DT to roatate.

At the 6m50s mark or so Howie himself says he may have just given them a free pick... I knew we gave them a free 5th... It is what it is... Howie's still the best gm in football

Didn't appear to be any issues lifting his arm up and hitting the wall. That on top of the Eagles med staff must have cleared him.

He also said right after that they said they are fielding calls. Doesn't sound too convinced but he was not going to gamble for a fifth on this.

As soon as KC wanted to know offense or defense and they agreed after Howie said defense he could have hung up the phone and kept the pick... It would have been a bad look but KC wasn't going to move back and lose their ot... Not a chance.. Howie absolutely gave them a free 5th he knows it... I'm cool with it don't get me wrong... Glad they got the guy they wanted... It's moot anyway it could have been MUCH more had one of the teams in the 20s took Howie up on his offers... Atlanta helped us out basically

You are right. It would have been a bad look … a very very bad look. It would have damaged trust. Trust with one of the Eagles alumni. And that erosion of trust would have been broadcast all through the NFL.

Howie chose to go for Win-Win rather than Win-Lose. All the studies of negotiations have shown that Win-Lose and Lose-Win always eventually evolve into Lose-Lose.

Not to bust your balls here, but watching a guy come down a tunnel on draft night and deciding his shoulder is ok is quite the reach, lol. (though I know what you're saying because I thought the same thing)

I really do hope he IS ok...but there have been reports about concerns regarding his other shoulder and both of his knees. I'm not "panicked", but I'm definitely a little concerned until more info comes out or he plays without issue.

Yeah that’s how I feel about this offseason so far. We have some gaps / concerns at certain positions but we still have a top 5/6 roster in the NFL and can compete this year. But these moves hopefully set us up for the future and to contend for several.

Any concerns likely will continue until he shows he can stay on the field (similar to Dickerson after he was drafted ... that first year was like hold your breath on each snap that he didn't get injured lol).

Some fans, IMO, worry way too much about injuries that haven't happened. In Campbell's case, we'll have to wait for his current injury to heal. I understand that. But I won't be watching him in some state of panic once he returns. I don't expect specific players to get hurt. I expect injuries to happen to members of every team. We have to wait for Dean to come back healthy as well. So even if Campbell can't fully participate in some early OTAs, with Dean's absence, that will provide more opportunities for Trotter and Mondon (and possibly Uche) to get early work. I really liked what little I saw from Trotter last season and also like what Mondon brings to the room. So honestly, I'm not worried too much about future injuries at this time. I think Campbell will be a full participant at training camp and think Dean could surprise people and be back sooner than some expect. But as long as Dean's replacement is able to play well, we may be able to afford the luxury of giving him extra time (to be cautious). This could be one of our best LB rooms ever.
