April 26Apr 26 CJGJ is 5'11 209This kid is 5'11 186Yeah, he could bulk up a bit, but with the trainers and chefs he'll have access to at 22 that shouldn't be an issue. They are making way too much out of this. We heard the same crap about Smith.
April 26Apr 26 I'd have taken Winston all day over this guy of the safeties left, but trust the process I guess.
April 26Apr 26 Good center fielder type safety. Let Blankenship and Brown be the thumpers. Mukuba can go get the picks.

Doesn't like to tackle and Grabs too much because of his lean frame. Oh well.
April 26Apr 26 Feels a bit like a CJGJ player? In that he’s a bit of a ball hawk so he’s got the potential to make some real big plays and in this defense I think that’s so valuable when we don’t give away too many big plays.

April 26Apr 26 I'm disappointed with this pick mainly because I worry about his size. He bulked up for the combine, and still could not reach 200lbs, which throws off the CJGJ comparisons because the latter is 209lbs.Greg Cosell loved his tape, but noted that because of his small smize and short arms, he tends to throw his body around rather truly tackling. That is VERY worrying.I really wanted Xavier Watts in this draft, so I'm feeling very bummed this morning. But I will cross my fingers and hope that the Eagles did not make a mistake here (though I sense they may have, but time will tell).

If he is closer to 200 pounds by year 3 he should be fine.

April 26Apr 26 Like some of the other posters above I was also surprised with the decision to go Mukuba over Xavier Watts initially, but I am warming up to the pick and have to give Howie/Vic the benefit of the doubt.Size concerns aside, from what I see in his highlights he is both solid in coverage and can lay the big hits too. A lot of the consensus draft lists had him as their 4th/5th best safety so the Eagles making him the 3rd safety off the board isn't that much of an egregious reach. He wore #4 at Texas, so he'll probably will have to change his number here with Jake Elliott here, but 24 is now available with Bradberry gone.
April 26Apr 26 Being an old fart with the ability to look dispassionately at the overall process, starting with the second round pick here, it REALLY looks like Howie regressed to his old ways of trying to be the smartest man in the room. When you select players that would have been there a round or three later, you are giving up BIG draft value.I really hope everyone can point to this post and laugh at me, but that empty feeling in the pit of my stomach, says I doubt it. 😕
April 26Apr 26 Mukuba has a small frame so not sure how much more weight he can ad. Go look at his Zoom press conference and you will see his small frame. Instincts look fine, coverage is good but that small frame for a guy who likes to throw his body around spells injury risk.

Both guys were drafted by the Eagles late in round 2 (Dawk #61 and Mukuba #64), both guys almost identical size at the time of the draft.I love comparing players. There are differences too, though, and one was an NFL HOFer when all was said and done. There's no reason we can't at least be optimistic that Makuba can become a good player. He also played with Trotter Jr before he transferred.

Comments like that can never be proven right or wrong. We'll never know for sure. Campbell was projected higher then 31 as well as Robinson higher than a 4th rounder. It doesn't matter.
