NYC is about to elect an Islamic leftist mayor. What could possibly go wrong?

He's an Indian who grew up in Africa and also a Muslim, so that makes him extra scary!

Hes with AOC so you add in he’s retarded as well

That would only make him more endearing and relatable to Trump voters.

The Emerson poll is an outlier. I really can't believe he can win, despite the fact that RCV is a scam.

But his platform is seriously insane and would do irreparable damage to NYC.

It's hard to describe how incredibly stupid all of this actually is.

It’s surely better than plurality voting. The biggest downside I see with it, is that it’s too complex for the stupid and lazy.

It's a complete disaster - going to a run off is a much better system if no one gets a majority on the first ballot. We've seen it first hand in Oakland -- outlier candidate gets elected because of deals and games despite losing in the 1st round. There are 2 issues -- first, it's confusing for certain groups of voters (older, non English speaking) that tend to vote more moderate. Second, it prioritizes deals and RCV strategies among candidates whereby more radical candidates band together. It is the antithesis of fair voting as it both disenfranchises certain groups and encourages back room dealing.

There's a reason progressives are pushing it -- it's their best path to victory by silencing more moderate voters.

Hoping you are right, but the betting odds have swung in his favor.

It was introduced to me when I was in the Libertarian Party.

Yeah, there are pros and cons with all voting systems, but I believe, and some studies suggest, that it actually benefits moderate candidates. Studies also suggest that it may have a negative impact on certain minority groups, but that could also have to do with the complexity.

It disproportionately impacts older African Americans and Hispanics, who are the most moderate voters in the Democratic party. The most progressive voters are younger, whte voters who have no issues with it.

Again, we live this crap in Alameda County in CA, and it's been an absolute nightmare.

It's how Lisa Murkowski was re-elected in Alaska

Thankfully I don't live in NYC, but this is why I registered democrat...so I can vote against this kind of lunacy in primaries.

I think the better option would be to open up the primaries. More people than ever are registered independent, and with primary election turnout the way it is, we end up in a general election between two morons.

I'd rather do away with primaries, but if we are going to have them, then definitely should be open to allow non extremists to vote as well. And no issue with 2 round primaries -- go to a run off between top 2 if no one gets 50%.

RCV is an absolute disaster in practice.

If this guy wins, every HF in NYC will make the move to FL. So much for that tax base.

New York voting to this guy in to kill it as a business centre will be peak left-wing lunacy.

This is just the end result of what all dem politicians and voters actually want. Let them have it. Will be fun to watch.

Says the guy who cheered for the government wanting to take over private companies. Left wing populism is not much different than right wing populism. National socialism is still socialism.

Young, white college graduates are really becoming a serious problem. No way around it. They think they are helping minorities by voting for things that minorities reject (socialism, less police, etc.).
