Lakers in 5?

There must be legit health concerns about him to still be available at this point. He can play.

He never lived up to the hype. Unlike his father, he's played 4 seasons and has yet to log an INT. Like his father, his tackling is suspect (over 16% missed tackle percentage in 3 of his four seasons).

If it wasn't for his name, would this thread even exist?

The frick are you talking about? He has 6 INT's in 50 career games. He's a decent NFL corner who is likely only unsigned due to health concerns. If Ringo doesn't work out the Eagles could do a lot worse than sliding Coop outside and signing ASJ to play the slot.

Also, like the Rams game it's nice having depth at CB.

At this point I doubt he would be looking for anything more than a 1 year deal. They have nothing to lose by signing him. Maybe he just isn't healthy because it's strange that nobody has signed him yet.

@Godfather

Sometimes the WIP just doesn't leave the long time stereotypical caller. His last name isn't Samuels with an S at the end.

He had spinal fusion surgery in April and is supposed to get a scan next month to see if fully healed.

Saw that. Hard to know what to believe. He did visit the Dolphins a few weeks ago reportedly. Hopefully the Eagles won't still be desperate for a starting CB 6 weeks from now but he definitely seems like a guy who could be a bye week pickup if they are

Well at this point in time the other options on the team aren’t leaving much to be desired. Ringo went from the guy with the inside track to be the starter to not even being mentioned at all. Jackson is showing why the Giants let him go, and the few snaps Bennett got he picks up a penalty. I mean so far from what you seen from CB2 do you feel all that encouraged? Sure Carter wasn’t in there and I certainly believe that was a factor, but Jackson looked like a child playing against an adult out there.

Jackson had one of the lowest PFF grades I've ever seen after that game. At this point in his career, you're getting what you're getting from Jackson and nothing else. He isn't going to develop into a better CB all of a sudden. If we're being honest , I'd take bad Bradberry any day over Jackson. But we have some other options already under contract. Ringo stunk in the preseason and perhaps his confidence took a hit and his lack of defensive snaps is a coachable moment. He has shown flashes in 2023 and 2024. I'd rather get him some experience and hope for the best than to pray that teams don't target Jackson all day. We also drafted Mac McWilliams. We played 2 rookie CBs last season. We could throw him to the wolves and see how he responds. Bennett didn't play all that well Thursday either. But Ricks is here. I kind of feel like Ricks at worst is about like Jalen Mills --- somebody you'd like to replace with a better athlete, but someone that is capable of solid contributions if he has to play.

Admittedly, I was not impressed with Jackson or Bennett in either the preseason or week 1, but that is a small sample. My expectations just aren't very high based on that small sample. I don't think signing an injured nickel CB is the answer either. In other news, Josh Jobe put together a really nice game yesterday (61 snaps) for Seattle.

Sometimes you just have to commit to developing the young guys. The worst thing that can happen is they play as poorly as Jackson has so far.

Ringo is probably out there if he doesn’t give up that terrible TD to Chase in that game. The effort was the worst part of the play. I wouldn’t mind seeing McWilliams get a shot in the slot and just move DeJean to the outside. You’re right about Jackson. There’s a reason why he was on the scrap heap to begin with. I don’t think the Eagles are happy with what they’re seeing from that corner spot so far. I think Howie is doing his due diligence.

DeJean’s strength is in the slot. If you move him outside, then you’re still weak on the outside and now you’ve weakened the slot. Just like when KC moved Thuney to tackle, they became weak at two positions. Keep DeJean in the slot and hope either Jackson or Ringo can step up or trade for someone.
