While I'm on page one:

  • You need a good CCW before you get a rifle.
    • Just get a Glock 19.
    • But mah .45.  Shut up.  Get a Glock 19.
    • But they're Tupperware hehelolz.  Shut up.  Get a Glock 19.
    • If you're stuck, get a Glock 19.
    • Already have a Glock 19?  Then consider the following:
      • HK.
      • CZ.
      • S&W M&P Series.
      • That's pretty much it.
      • Stay away from:
        • Newer SIGs
        • 1911s
          • They're a great BBQ range queen gun, otherwise there's better options.  Get with the times.
        • Anything not on the buy list.  Seriously.  I don't care what your buddy said.  He's an idiot.  You can tell him I think so.
          • But an article said? No.  Gun journalism sucks.  They're all paid to write that.
      • And get a 9mm.
        • .45? No. 9mm is cheaper and you can carry more rounds.
          • But mah stopping power.  No.  That's a myth. Shot placement > hole size.  Get the gun with the cheaper ammo so you can practice more.
        • I want a 40 like the cops.  No.  Cops don't know ish about guns.  The FBI wanted .40 because they were looking for a solution to a problem no one had.
    • Get good hollowpoint ammo and make sure your gun can shoot it.  Get 147gr since it penetrates the best. I prefer bonded.
      • I use 147gr Winchester Ranger T ammo. (RA9T)
  • Get a good holster.  Not some cheap Uncle Mike's nylon crap.  A GOOD holster.  That's right up there with importance on a gun.
    • Get something IWB.  I prefer Comp-Tac, but there's a billion brands out there that are decent.  Just don't get crap.
  • But I need a rifle for TEOTWAWKI.
    • Get a CCW first.  You're more likely to need a pistol than a long gun.
    • Also if you have a rifle before you have soft armor lol at you because you messed up the order in which you were supposed to buy things.
  • Go buy a good belt.
    • Your dockers belt isn't going to do the trick.  Buy a good quality gun belt.
    • May I suggest thebeltman.com?
  • Buy a shotgun.  No.  Shut up, Joe.  It's TYOOL 2020. When you're ready for a long gun, go with a carbine.
  • What kind of rifle?
    • AR-15.
    • AK-47? Lol no.  Go back to COD.  Not to mention the cheap ammo dried up because we can't import 7.62x39 or 5.45x45 anymore.
  • What brands are good?
    • BCM.
    • FN.
    • Aero.
    • LWRC.
    • Daniel Defense
  • But I want a cheap rifle?
    • No.  If you want the barest minimum cheap you can get while still being good get an FN-15 SRP and expect to pay a grand.
  • I want to build my own.
    • No you don't.  Shut up.  Just buy off the rack.  When you have been doing this for a few years then build.  At the factory it's not like they're putting lego blocks together.  They test the products and they are under warranty.
  • I want a piston because I don't want a rifle that ishes where it eats like happened in 'Nam.
    • Shut up and get a DI rifle.  Piston weapons put abnormal wear on the BCG because the bolt isn't pushed rearward uniformly like in a DI weapon.
    • But but but the cool elite troops all use piston HKs.
      • Yes because they have a limitless budget and could use a new rifle for every op and still have money left over.
  • What kind of ammo should I run?
    • 77gr OTM.
    • Make sure the grain size is copacetic to the barrel twist rate.
      • I have no idea what that means.
        • Google it.
  • What kind of suppressor should I get?
    • Did you get a sling yet?
      • No, of course you didn't.  If you have a rifle but you don't have a sling for it, then do yourself a solid and hit yourself.
      • Buy a sling.  You need a sling before you need an optic.
      • Did you buy a sling yet?
      • Get a good two-point or one-point sling.
  • What kind of suppressor should I get?
    • Eh, something short from Surefire.
    • You're shooting supersonic ammo, so it's not like it's going to be a whisper.
  • Seriously did you get a sling?
  • Instagram? Then follow @fromtheguncounter and do exactly what he says.

 my dad's buddy called him today to tell him he bought a handgun. Guys never had a gun before and bought one just for the panic.

He bought an M&P shield 40  I could give him a handful of reasons why it was a mistake but 🤷‍♂️

Interesting choice on RDS.

Yeah I'm not going to knock the M&P has a duty grade or a CCW weapon, but the trigger is just trash.

I carry an M&Pc 9mm. When I find a carry gun I like better, I'll switch, but it hasn't happened yet

I really wanted to like the M&P. I loved the grip angle versus the Glock and the fact that you could take it down without firing the trigger.  I really liked it up until I fired it.  Granted I heard they improved the trigger, buy I just couldn't get over it. My duty gun was a Sig P226 so I prefer a good clean break with good tension.

I had toyed with the thought of both 300 blackout and an AR pistol, but neither really grab me enough to jump on it.

On the contrary, I have a 223 AR, a 223 at pistol and a 300 sbr that I'm saving for a can for. Enjoy the fact that I can keep the pistol in my truck loaded legally

There's a couple of older type rifles that I want to go after before I do another AR, I want a nice 1903 and I want an M1 Carbine. Those are a couple of 'holes' in my collection. Not that I have this 'amazing' sort of collection, don't get the wrong impression. lol

I have thought about doing a Model 607 (AR) pistol, or just foregoing the pistol and doing it as an SBR. But I want to focus on a few other things (when I get back to rifles), before doing another AR.

My big thing with getting the SBR was all the ATF notes about pistols with braces. Didn't want a pistol With a brace becoming illegal. My pistol just has a tube so it can't be mistaken

Last time I was on ar15.com (their forum), there was someone selling a brace that looked like a stock, and apparently had a letter from the ATF saying that it was kosher. Of course, that can change. That's always been something that's made me shy away from doing a pistol.

Last year I put together an XM177E2 clone, the 'moderator' is fake, of course and is pinned/welded to the barrel. So its overall length is 16". Not quite what a real XM177E2 would be, but close enough to satisfy me. It's a companion to my A1 clone. I wanted that because I carried an A1 when I was in the Army, so I have a bit of a 'connection' to it. Holding it is like wearing a comfortable pair of slippers. It just feels good in my hands lol.

I'm not one for clones, but right now they are coming back in a huge way. Good time to be a clone guy.

I'd love to have a real A1, but no way at the prices of real ones. Actually, some of my A1 is real, just not the parts that make it an M16 (the lower and the fire control group). The upper, the furniture, the stock and the BCG are from a parts kit. The XM177E2 is 100% clone. I also had an M4 clone, but I wound up selling that to build the XM177E2. Come to think of it, I also sold an A2 upper assembly. I liked that rifle, but I never carried one and wanted a carbine version that matched the era of the A1.

I'm not really 'into' the modern style ARs. Though I may end up getting an AR-10 at some point, but my M1A (dressed up in an M14 stock), kind of fills my .308 'need'.
