If he does "take” Greenland then it is 100% the end of NATO. Of course there are other options where US presence and use of Greenland are advanced without the country becoming part of the US.

Are you referring to the Truman presidency after WW2? It was an offer to either lease Greenland for 99 years or preferably to purchase it.

The Danes rejected the offer, just like the previous two attempts. The point you’re missing is that military force was never on the table during any attempt in taking Greenland. They even signed a bilateral agreement in 1951 that allowed the US to maintain its military bases on the island. It also included that public discussion on a US acquisition of the place be ceased.

There is a huge difference in wanting to purchase something or just taking it by force. That’s the issue here and there is no legitimate reason in even considering using military force against a NATO ally…
