Very nice and given Howie's magic it's probably doable.

Queston - why a DT? Some Penn State bias there? Our DT room along with our RB room are the only ones settled. there are 6 DT's which leaves 4 or 5 on the roster and 1 or 2 on the practice squad.

Question - are you counting on Doubs to be WR2? Where's WR3?

Comment - I'd prefer drafting 2 ede players ove a 4th round interion limeman. Maybe Becton comes cheap and he replaces Pryor's roster spot.

Comment - we have all 3 TE's as free agents. I'd rather see a 5th round TE than a RB.

RB

I don’t expect AJ Dillon to be back, so a 4th RB behind Barclay, Shipley and Bigsby isn’t so far fetched.

DT

I have no idea what they’re going to do with Jordan Davis and/or Jalen Carter in the near future but something tells me they’re not going to sign both to lucrative deals.

IOL

Would love for the Eagles to bring Becton back. Don’t know if they will…

And yes, I’m counting on Doubts to be WR2 and either Williams or Cooper to win the No.3 job. McAllister is more of an X.

Got it - thanks

Tell me about Alote Taylor

RB - I'm hoping 3 on the roster and 1 on the practice squad to make room for other positions

DT - if you're right I don't think Durant is th eguy. I like him but his size isn't anywhere nea either Carter or Davis.

Taylor is 6.1 ft, turns 28 next december, very solid DB, very versatile (can play all 3 positions in the DB field and even on ST), flying under the radar in FA and won’t break the bank.

DT

Scheme changes if Fangio calls it a day. Davis for example isn’t exactly a good fit in a Jim Schwartz defense but Carter is. Durant is on the smaller side, can possibly play DE a bit.

FWIW, Just because the SB halftime was in Spanish, doesn't call for stating date in dd-mm-yyyy format, :)

Questions:

  1. Express purpose of replacing Goedert with Otton, such as salary and performance impacts.

  2. Does the above decisions assume that the Eagles will be successfull in selecting Sadiq at the 23rd pick? How would the organization respond if he is picked earlier? How would you suggest they recover?

  3. Cutting Bennett accomplishs what exactly?

  4. Wouldn't the cap hit for trading AJ hamper your FA signings?

  5. What picks other than Sadiq would you envision adding a positive contribution in 2026?

  6. How would the roster stack up to 2024?

I don’t see a reason to justify anything I did here. Some things you have to figure out for yourself. I’ve been doing these exercises on the EMB for a long, long time now. Just entertainment, getting to know the draft class in the process and presenting different scenarios…that’s it…

It makes a lot of sense. I’m not sure they’d go TE in the first but yeah I mean they do need TE even if they did sign someone like Otton.

The one thing I’d say is I’m not sure that’s going to be enough at DE. I know you bring back Phillips and look he flashed but he also went quiet after a great start. I’m still unconvinced that Nolan can be a true starter and be consistent in the nfl but we also can’t fix everything.

Let me take a shot at this with my 2 cents -

  1. signing Goedert is problematic at best. His age and injury history are not with him when measuring against keeping Phillips, Blankenship or even Dean. Additionally,, he took a significant salary haircut in 2025 and then had a career best in TD's. He's not going to take another one.

  2. Sure it assumes that or he wouldn't be the choice. If he's not there we also need to replace starters at WR and CB.

  3. Benett was a non-contributor. Why keep him exactly?

  4. It might, but many on this board believe in Howie magic. Without that to count on it's farless fun.

  5. To name a few. CB: Hood, Cissi, Abney. WR: Boston, Sarrett, Lane. OL - Ioane, Freeling

  6. Who knows?

Crazy legs - your post comes perilously close to missing the spitir of fun, respect, and sharing of ideas. You likely didn't mean it that way but some folks might see it that way.

Don't take offense my friend. We're all for sharing our thoughts and quesitons. I ask questions too and am always pleased to have the intereactions than follow. I don't think our friend crazy legs was so much challenging you as asking for the thoughts behind your opinions. That's the fun of it.

Thanks Rob.

I never take something personally. I literally don’t care.

As you know I’m doing this for about 15 maybe even 16 yrs now on this board. Only offering ideas and scenarios. Just for fun because as you know the offseason is my favorite time of the year…Eagles wise that is (unless they’re really good and make a deep playoff run or even better…win it all…)

But the excitement of FA and the draft itself and everything leading up to it…love it!

Everything okay, buddy?!

Just a mock…who knows what Howie will do?! If they can’t re-sign Philips, an edge is definitely in play in the first…

Eaglefan - all 3 of the tight ends on th roster are free agents and it's an even bet none of them are back. I doubt they sign Lively or Pitts in free agnecy and their about the only starters who will be available. Given that it makes sense to sign a TE2 and draft your starting TE.

Fellow Draftnics,

I appreciate that I received your benefit of doubt related to my intent. I am not mean-spirited and find the banter on 411 rather off-putting. I merely intended to encourage a more deep thought process to a very complex subject. I go thru the same mental gyrations that you all do and find myself adjusting my priorities continuously as I absorb more information.

Allow me to clarify some of my questions:

  1. Goedert vs. Otton. Dallas might cost less and outperform Otton. If Sadic was drafted, what would Otton's long-term value be? If not, would Otton be your starter?

  2. You can't assume anyone will be available when you draft unless you reach out of poor strategy which I don't anticipate from the Eagles. You must have multiple alternate strategies. I know, I must be taking this exercise too seriously. It's supposed to be for our entertainment - right?

  3. Bennett is under contract at minimum $$ and not subject to dead money...he's at least camp fodder.

  4. I hate dead cap charges - don't you?

  5. I was referring specifically to Ray's picks on days 2 and 3. I didn't envision any of them being ready to step into starting roles at the start of the season.

  6. I thought a comparison of starting rosters would favor 2024 - just my opinion.

I respectfully await your comments.

1 Otton will be our No.2 TE, Howie will find our starter in the draft. Remember Otton has played for our new pass game coördinator Grizzard;

2 isn’t that what Mock Drafts are for? Projections? No one knows how the draft shakes out;

3 no need to keep a player on the squad if he doesn’t contribute. Maybe a camp body but I don’t expect him to be on the 53 man roster;

4 absolutely but if AJ wants out and is a distraction, it has to be done. He’ll also cost a ton in the upcoming years. Money you can allocate to other players like Carter, Davis, Mitchell and DeJean;

5 not every rookie needs to contribute immediately;

6 I usually don’t do that.

Last but not least;

I don’t know if Howie will be able to keep Philips in Philly. If not, it wouldn’t surprise me if he drafts a pass rusher in the first. Good edge class, in which we easily can draft a quality pass rusher in the middle of the first round.

  1. That may well be how the Eagles choose to move on. I just wish that Dallas can remain an Eagles.

  2. Point well taken. There remains a boatload of factors that will continue to change projections all the way leading up to the draft.

  3. I was giving Bennett the advantage of the doubt, given there is no significant cost in doing so.

  4. We'll see how it plays out.Kelce has weighed in also.

  5. I guess I was spoiled by our success in the 2024 draft ( 2 star rookies).

  6. I was expressing my concern for the less talent, and to a some extent a lack of experienced roster depth.

  7. True. There remain many issues to resolve themselves leading up to the draft.. We're just at a point in time...to be continued.

BTW: I give you much credit for being as well informed as you are, given your residency.

That's more like it! Playing nice makes it far more enjoyable. Thanks!

Thanks…I’ve been an Eagles fan for about 25 years now and an offseason fanatic for about 15 years. That’s how long I’ve been doing these mocks on the EMB. Last couple of years I’ve been late to the party but once I’m locked in, I can’t let go until the draft is over. After that hibernation till pre-season…lol…

There are a lot of fans on the EMB from abroad btw.

The NFL has come a long way since the 1950s. I watched my first NFL game on Thanksgiving 1957 and became a fan of the Detroit Lions. The game became very popular in 1958 when the championship was telecast nationally and the Colts won insudden death.

I went to my first Eagles games at Franklin Field in 1960. We came from behind almost every game and beat the Packers for the championship at home (the game was blacked out locally). I suffered thu the Wolman/Kuharich era and very briefly gave up hope when they intiially hired Dick Vermeil (my favorite coach).

Cable TV and the internet have certainly broadened our exposure to the NFL and it has become our national pastime. I tried belonging to a fantasy league one year, but decided it was too extreme. Instead I concentrated on the draft.

I checked and saw that the NFL made inroads in 1991 as the WLAF for a few years. They then tried a sort of minor league around 1995. I think they started NFL regular season broadacsts around 2007. So, when did you become a fan/ and why?

BTW: Have you looked ahead to the 2027 draft yet? There seem to be several elite players eligible.

I was under the impression you were younger than me. Clearly not. About 15 years after you went to your first game, I was born, the year Jaws became the first true blockbuster.

Got fascinated with the game during the 80’s by watching highschool flicks like Lucas etc. but it was in the 90’s when I started watching my first NFL game.

It did help that Kurt Warner was playing for the Amsterdam Adimirals during that span.

If I remember correctly the first SB that aired on Dutch television was the Rams-Titans game. After that there was no turning back. Loved that team!

But during the 2001 season another team caught my eye and I instantly became a fan. You guessed it right; our Eagles.

Years later I took a special interest in the offseason and got hooked on Free Agency and the draft. Watched Banner taking guys like Maclin, BG etc live late zeros. Never missed an Eagles game, free agency or draft ever since.

So blessed and proud they’ve been to so many SB’s and even won 2 in the last 25 years. We’ve been spoiled as Eagles fans.

But to get back to your question; no haven’t looked into the ‘27 draft class. I usually start doing that during the regular season.

But this class?! Depends on what you’re looking for? I especially like the edge and OT class but if you’re looking for elite talent or a franchise QB, this is not the draft for you. Howie should be able to take advantage of the strenghts of this class.

The more I think about it, the more I believe he should take an edge in the first and an OT in the second or vice versa. It wouldn’t even surprise me if the Eagles land Max Crosby instead of re-signing Philips…

Yeah all good bud you?

I’m all set for an offseason of goodness knows what kind of chaos. Shock moves? Moves that don’t necessarily align with that the fans might want. Uncertainty with the coaches and question marks over some key players. It’s going to be a really big offseason.

$30M is a big chunk of change even for Howie

I think I fit between the two of you - I was 9 in 1960

I think I might still have some large splinters I collected from tearing down the goal posts at Franlkin Field in 1960.

Sly Stallone enrolled in my high school my senior year, but we never were introduced.

I see tight end as an important position to focus attention on. Whereas salary cap is also important, I hope that it doesn't become too significant in the decision process.

As I have intimated in this string, I expect that the planners will have envioned many alternative action plans, based upon the potential actions of 31 other organizations. In other words, nothing will be cast in stone until the clock starts in late April.

The immediate focus will be on free agency and trades commencing next month. AJ issues need to be resolved ASAP. Signings should be limited to home grown playes prior to the draft...they represent the best values.

The combine then will help solidify how the selection process will nominally play out. I will refrain from my mock preferences until such time.

P.S. I loved the nicknames of athletes when I was growing up. "Crazy Legs" was for Elroy Hirsch. My favorite Eagles names were Norm "Wild Man" Wiley and "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik.

If that was a question, he was 6' 4" and 190 lbs, played FS on Eagles Championship Team in 1960. His dimesions explain the nickname, He was very adept at interceptions.
