Eagles GM Howie Roseman calls recent Jalen Hurts reports ‘unfair'

Eagles GM Howie Roseman addressed the recent reports about quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman on Tuesday called recent reporting about franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts "unfair.”

Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni held their annual pre-draft media availability on Tuesday. And while most of the questions were about next week’s draft, Roseman was asked for his comment on Hurts’ standing with the team after recent reporting from ESPN and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Roseman said he has seen those reports and responded by saying the Eagles are direct and honest in conversations with players.

"So for us, if we have any issue with any of our players, we talk to them directly,” Roseman said. "From my perspective, from Nick's perspective, from Jeffrey’s [Lurie] perspective, we're not hiding behind anything. We will talk to our players directly. I think that it's unfair. It's unfair to have these articles written, but I understand it's also what sells at this point. So yeah, I think it's unfortunate.”

Perhaps Roseman is unhappy with any potential leaks that may have come from inside the Eagles’ building.

The conversation about Hurts changed a bit earlier this month when an ESPN article from Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler, titled "Inside Eagles’ 2025 friction as Jalen Hurts stands at a crossroads” dropped. In the story, ESPN said they interviewed more than a dozen sources about the quarterback and some of the Eagles’ offensive struggles in recent seasons.

Shortly after that, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane released a story detailing how the 2026 season will be an important once in Hurts’ career.

Hurts, 27, will enter Year 7 in his NFL career in 2026 having already achieved an incredible level of success. The three-time Pro Bowler has a 57-25 regular season record, has reached two Super Bowls and was the MVP of the one the Eagles won in 2024.

But a lot of the discussion around Hurts centers around the contract extension he signed in April of 2023 because this upcoming season is the last fully guaranteed year of that deal and there’s not a new extension yet.

Another important part of the conversation comes because the Eagles’ offense really struggled in 2025 and will have a new offensive coordinator with a new scheme in 2026. How Hurts plays and fits into Sean Mannion’s offense is yet to be seen.
