Posted April 26Apr 26 Getting this started now that the draft has concluded. Feel free to add any additional signings and I’ll update post #1._______________________________________________________________________________________Dae'Quan Wright (TE - Ole Miss)Deontae Lawson (LB - Alabama)Tucker Large (S - Washington St.)Jaeden Roberts (OL - Alabama)Maximus Pulley (S - Wofford)Kapena Gushiken (DB - Ole Miss)Joshua Weru (EDGE - International Player Pathway program)Rocco Underwood (LS - Florida)
April 26Apr 26 Some good names in there - I had Wright and Roberts as possible late round targets for us.And love that we have cornered the Africans who have never played football market.
April 26Apr 26 I like the Roberts signing. I wanted him and a better S prospect like Fitzgerald. Got one. We signed a LS but like the 5th best prospect so hoped for better there.
April 26Apr 26 Based on the tape I would say Lawson has the best chance of making the team if they are willing to keep five ILBs and he can beat out Chance Campbell.

The one dude on the bleacher report watch along who also does fantasy shows with Matthew Berry had him ranked 125th in the draft.Wright, Lawson, and Roberts were all pretty high level UDFA signings.

And someone else informed me that this guy won the award for best LS in 2024. So, this guy is quite good despite what draft website rankings had him at 5th. Im not sure what the delta could be between this guy and #1 when this guy is 5th with some really impressive feathers in his cap.

I hope he develops and becomes known. The team seems to reecognize his talent. Then again, they talked about Blankehsip like some incredible leader and glue guy and decided they needed no glue. So who knows.Lawson was rated like LB10 in a really nice LB class with a 4th round grade. You would expect that player to make a team. Im thinking maybe he even beats out Mondon.
April 27Apr 27 Alright....time to trigger a bunch of you. Mailata, the fact that Uar is draftable, Weru is signable....it's a reminder that football is a low skill sport. Not zero skill, but low skill. You'll never hear of someone starting to play baseball at 20 and cracking the major leagues. Same holds true for tennis, golf, hockey, soccer, and any other number of sports. Generally applies to basketball too with the exception of old school bigs. These are sports that take a lifetime of skill acquisition from a young age. That's just not football. Of course, a superior skill set allows Devonta Smith to be who he is, allows less athletic instinctive linebackers and DBs to play at a high level...and a failed skill set has torpedo'd many athletic busts. But if you are a superior, explosive athlete and are tough and hard working...you can get coached up from zero to NFL player. I'm sure there are examples in other sports, but not with the frequency that we see in high level NCAA and pro football. That's why I like workouts. Workouts cant screen out stiff athletes (that's a different problem entirely....exhibit A being Taylor Mays). For these reasons, it's easier to define a ceiling than a floor. Anyone can bust. I just don't like drafting prospects with defined ceilings.

I just don't like drafting prospects with defined ceilings. You see low skill and no skill players being drafted in the NBA all the time. Not that they havent played basketball before, but teams take them based on athleticism and "potential".Then, there is the story of Embiid. Never playing basketball. Being discovered in a similar program to the IPP the NFL has by a fellow Cameroonian. Told he should play basketball. Goes to one of the ELITE basketball programs at the time and instantly becomes a potential #1 draft pick in the NBA. Thats not common.Just like your first example- Mailata- is not common. The eagles have had a few different international candidates on the roster. None of them actually make it in the league. Mailata is the only one, not just in Philly, but the NFL in general. Well, there was that one RB/RS the 9ers had who made some plays but then killed someone or something like that. Forgot his name. RB or return specialist is probably the one position you can possibly see that happen. Yet, you still dont see it. Didnt even work out for the eagles with Jeremy Bloom, the skiier. Or Devon Allen from Oregon who was trying to have an Olympic track career while playing football. Didnt work out for Chad Hall who still kept working on airplanes for the Air Force. And those guys did have some football experience.I think your entire point is based on the false premise that this is something that happens in football. Its not. Mailata is really the lone outlier.Just because we drafted Uar and signed Weru doesnt mean they are going to make it.And if they do, itll only be after years of development. Its not like either of these guys is going to be contributing in their first year. Just like it took Mailata years to get ready. Just like teams try to do with the NBA players that have no skill. Developing them while on the roster.Theres been no one who has 0 experience that just comes and plays the sport without still having years of development. Not in other sports, and not in the NFL either.Usain Bolt never came to the league. LeBron never came to the league. Nobody ever signed the youtube kicker "Destroying". IShowSpeed never came to the league, or any sports league. Nobody plays in the NFL without growing up in the game, AND without being fully committed rather than still trying to have some other career.
April 27Apr 27 Antonio Gates didn't play college football and didn't pursue the NFL until after it was obvious he had no future in the NBA. Jimmy Graham played a single season of college football. But anyway... Mailata didn't play in a real game until his 3rd season. There are a number of NFL players that had little to no experience at the position they ultimately played in the NFL. But again, it usually takes some time for them to develop.

Mailata is essentially one of one and he was drafted EIGHT years before the Eagles took Bernard this weekend. Can anyone name another player from the IPP program who was drafted and became an NFL player since them, let alone became a good or great player. Obviously I hope Bernard becomes a really good NFL player and it's a really fun pick but the odds are majorly against him even becoming a back of the depth chart player.

I thought Roberts would be drafted, glad we snagged him. I was hoping they'd double dip at TE as well, so this is something at least. OG was a concern for me because of Dickerson's health. Between Morris and Roberts, hopefully one of them can be his replacement. They may see playing time this year.

May 2May 2 Looks like ther are still 3 spots left to be filled - 4 when AJ Brown is moved. Could a player be coming back post June 1? Might a safety from NE be part of the package.
