Suppose the Eagles kept T.O. and traded McNabb before 2005?

Disagree with the above.

Not saying McNabb is some sort of elite QB but he was severley hamstrung by Andy Reid's terrible play calling; doing the same thing over and over again hoping for a different result with mediocre WR's for most of his career.

Had Hurts played with the talent Mcnabb played with during his early years, he would struggle to stick around in the NFL.

1999 - 2000: Torrance Small + Charles Johnson
2001-2003: Thrash + Pinkston
2004: Pinkston +Terrell Owens

2005: Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis
2006: Reggie Brown, Donte Stallworth
2007: Reggie Brown, Kevin Curtis
2008: Reggie Brown, Kevin Curtis, DeSean Jackson
2009: Desean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin

Wow, you're not kidding, Donovan didn't have an elite tandem until 2009 and 2004 with Pinkston and TO would be the next best i suppose.

Do we really have to compare the two?

I enjoyed McNabb's ability, he was really fun to watch on game day; it was also frustrating when he came up short in big games.

I'm enjoying Hurts' leadership, focus and big-time plays when it matters most; it's also frustrating when he lacks rhythm and the offense looks slow.

Arguably the two best QBs we've ever had. I like Hurts more as a person, but McNabb was fun. Nothing but gratefulness for both.

Where's the fun in not comparing them? P

I'm partial to Randall Cunningham in the "fun to watch" department. I remember being excited about McNabb because it seemed we finally had a "blue chip" QB after years of Ty Detmer's and Rodney Peete's.

Hurts...I appreciate what he's done, but there's something about him that makes it hard for me to "like" him. Probably because he's very guarded, serious and sometimes gives off a persona that he thinks he's better than he is. I don't dislike him, I just haven't really taken to him as Hurts the person.

True, he definitely didn't have his best game. I'll always look back on that game and wonder if it would've played out differently had TO been 100% in that game. With that said, I place some of the blame on Reid as well for all of those great Eagles teams shortcomings. He was notorious for being pass happy with crap WR's and we also had some unlucky breaks in the playoffs with McNabb getting his ribs broken, Westbrook getting injured against WAS right before the playoff run when we're up big, never having a zero hurry up offense., etc. I will say this though, I don't remember McNabb choking against AZ in the 2009 NFCCG - that was all on our defense.

But yeah, Hurts has definitely accomplished what Donovan couldn't, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't think Donovan could've won with the same roster/coaches in 2024.

No doubt. Runyan pleaded with Reid to run the ball in the NFCCG against Carolina after McRib went down, but to no avail. If Reid just ran the ball against Tampa and Carolina, the Eagles would have gone to at least one more SB

Eh, any honest Eagles fan knew that Dallas game would be a blow out. We didn't matchup well with them at all that season, and we also went into that game really banged up on the defensive side.  I'm not going to fault the QB for that loss, as we just had a really bad draw.

It was 2 games. He scored 7 total points. How does the banged up defense factor into what he did on offense?

McNabb's career does not stand on its own. It needs special pleading from Poor Baby! #5 fans.

2006 McNabb was 2nd in the league in yards per attempt. He was 5-5 because he sucks.

Garcia took over the same team and went 5-1.

How exactly do you wind up 2nd in yards per attempt without good pass catchers?

The trick that all these Poor Baby! special pleaders do with McNabb is to pretend that Westbrook and TEs and WR depth don't count.

They also ignore the other 50 players on the team.

Brady made a career of winning SBs with #2 WRs at #1

Brown, Patten, Branch, Edelman, Hogan / Amendola, and so on as his #1 and #2.

Edelman never had an 8+ TD season.

Wilson got to a pair of SBs without a #1 WR.

2013 Tate 898 5 and Baldwin 778 5

2014 Baldwin 825 3 Kearse 537 1

The 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008 Eagles were all good enough rosters to win the SB.

Their QB was a small dude in a big role.

I always found him to be bit of a princess, easily gets offended the moment any form of criticism came his way via players or other means..

God forbid had the Eagle fans booed when he was picked on draft day....

Mcnabb had a lot of short comings and he is no way elite but I feel Mcnabb with the same talent pool Hurts had would have won atleast 1 superbowl..

McNabb definitely made the situation worse with his loser reactions to TO's childish behavior but TO's problems were with the FO. If the FO worked with him and came to an agreement, I think McNabb and TO could have coexisted.

TO played a SB with 1 1/2 legs and still had 100+ yards on a terrible day by McNabb. Its not the level of Snider destroying the Flyers by not paying Hextall or McCrimmon but it was a bad decision to not give TO a bump in pay.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. TO and McNabb would have coexisted just fine for at least another year or more had the front office given TO a new contract. It's revisionist history to say that the TO debacle was because he and McNabb didn't get along. TO wanted a new contract after that first season and when the front office told him to go kick rocks things just escalated.

Back in the day, I wanted Andy dumped before McNabb. I was sick and tired of him and his stubbornness as a HC.

TO, another talented Diva WR. Made the Offense better, but became too much of a headache.

Yeah, and the Cowboys scored 34. They actually scored 27 of those points in the 2nd quarter alone. If you want to shut your brain off to just hate on McNabb that's fine, but any competent fan knows you need both sides of the ball to play well to win. The only player that had a monster game was Maclin, everyone else didn't show up. Lastly, aside from Dallas being a tough/bad matchup for us, we just had too many injuries going into the playoffs. The week prior when we also played at Dallas, we had DB's get hurt in that 24-0 blowout for the NFC East title.

stick to wearing that cape for Hurts.

If the Cowboys scored 27 in the 2nd quarter then its more reason to air it out to score points.

Vick had no problem doing this.

You soil yourself by crying that points are hard to score when the other team scores points.

Its far beyond asinine.

With the caveat that Reid would have been smart enough to dumb down the game plan and pound the ball more. That was a big factor in the team's failure to advance before 2004.

Some Eagles fans fascination with Vick makes me laugh. The guy was a talented player, and had he been drafted to us he may have had a HOF career. With that said, he never really did anything worth talking about in Philly, hell, he never even won a playoff game here.

Again, stick to glazing Hurts because that's what you're actually good at.

Wasn't Andy the GM back then? How about he just paid T.O. the money and not trade anybody? T.O. was a legit stud who gave 100% effort and was a game changer. His first catch with the eagles was a TD and he caught 2 more in that game. Although that super bowl year was a while back I do remember the eagles were lighting up other teams most games. I blame Andy more than anyone for mainly having scrubs at WR for most of McNabb's career and not just paying T.O. after the SB season. Then again it seemed like around then Andy wasn't making many good decisions.

He had control over personnel not contracts that was Joe banner

Nothing changes. T.O. would have ruined the team regardless. What did TO do for the Cowboys?
