Not that I'm crediting Kelly for the pick. The Eagles were sort of trapped into the Lane Johnson pick. Lots of talk that we were so unlucky to have a top 5 pick in that draft because of how bad the top 10 was (and it was really bad). We all know they wanted Dion Jordan and were very lucky that Chip telegraphed it and Miami jumped in front of us. Once Jordan was off the board, the only viable options were Lane Johnson and Ezekiel Ansah. They couldn't trade down because no one valued the top 10. And Lane Johnson was, by a pretty wide consensus, the better prospect than Ansah. So no one was ecstatic about a somewhat raw OT at #4...but he was the no-brainer selection even at the time for even a casual fan to make. And in such an awful top 10, getting someone with his kind of prototypical talent at a premium position wasn't so bad. As it turns out, he was, by an enormous margin, the best player in that top 10.Interestingly, the top tier of players players from that draft are Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz, Terron Armstead, Le'Veon Bell, Darius Slay, DeAndre Hopkins. Second tier would be Travis Frederick, Xavier Rhodes, Eric Reid, Eifert, Warford, Keenan Allen, Jordan Poyer, Honey Badger. It was actually a really good draft. The scouts just really got it wrong with where all the good players went. And a lot of those best players actually spent time with the Eagles.
