The problem is these elites don't see regular people as being deserving of rights.  They see the globe as theirs, and this climate change as a problem brought on by us who are merely cattle to them to be herded and culled to keep their globe pristine and how they want it.

pssh...listen to pink Floyd's animal's albums lyrics.  They nailed life.

"Jesus" or a bunch of people that had ergot on their wheat and barley and didn't realize they were on psychedelics.

As it pertains to the topic at hand, how does automation factor into all of this? What happens when a sizable chunk of the population is rendered obsolete via AI and automated jobs, and how bad does it get? 50% of the work force? 75%? I feel like this is a huge problem that's coming whether we like it or not.

I've been deploying automation in my company for the last 5 years.  Most companies like mine are finding that low paying data entry jobs are being eliminated but are being replaced but higher paying development and AI management roles.  Its actually a problem as companies aren't seeing the people costs savings they had hoped for AI deployments.

This will likely change over time, but right now, I'm not sure AI is the threat to jobs that we anticipated.

I don't think they'll do away with national governments, no.  They will continue to use incrementalism, as they have for decades. They'll use trade agreements, treaties, etc.  National governments will remain but be increasingly beholden to binding deals which funnel them into policy that local populations don't want or like. And there is nothing conspiratorial about it.  Read it for yourself, I posted the WEF link. Unlike Trump joking about a 4th term, these people are very serious and have spent billions of dollars and decades of their life working towards these ends.

Onto welfare they go. Hence the recent talk of universal basic income.

As PFFB is fond of saying, pay 'em, employ 'em, or kill 'em.

I made a joke. Not surprisingly, people were triggered by it.

Honestly, it's extremely hard to tell anymore . This election has got everyone all revved up.

I agree. My wife actually had papers published describing future applications of AI in quality and compliance roles for the pharmaceutical industry. Seems like for the beginning at least, it will be more of a time saving tool, and will be used to reduce human error. Not replace jobs.

Ppl are revved up by covid and the lockdown. Ppl are dying and businesses are going bust.

Trump's clowning around might entertain his faithful followers but doesn't give hope or comfort to anyone else.

And if Biden wins, who knows where we'll end up? He's promising the moon in his ads. If he doesn't deliver,
we may see Trump back in four more years, older and even more Trumpian.

Then there's the contingent that believes Biden is simply a Trojan horse for Harris, AOC and Ildari to take
the reins and put radical women of color in charge of the nation.

The only thing certain is that whatever is going to happen will happen.

That is only because it is in it's infancy. While AI has been talked about for years and year, it really had only come into fruition over the last 5-10 years. In the next 20 years, it will take over a lot of menial jobs, it will self heal and self write.

I understand why these guys want to look at a Great Reset. If certain segments of the economy fall, if AI and computers come in and take over menial jobs, you are going to have a greater gap in wealth in all of these countries.

While it is easy to look past the wealth gap and admire those that are wealthy, if the gap becomes too big, if the middle class is completely edged out of the equation, then you are going to have a lot of hungry people looking for help. If they dont get the help they require it could end up turning into war, which nobody wants.

It may sound alarmist, but it can very easily happen.

I’m saying there is zero chance he has any intention of being dictator for life, and anyone who does believe this is so mentally insane that they ought to be institutionalized.

If Trump could be a dictator for life he'd take it in a second, don't you remember how he admired Putin's power?

Let's assume you're right...how would this be any different than any other advance of technology?  Computers, cell phones, internet, robotics...they've all eliminated labor centric jobs but have created skilled labor jobs.

I don't disagree with your assessment, I just don't think its anything new...nor do I think it will have any greater effect on the "wealth divide" than any other technology I've named.

You’ll own nothing, eat bugs, be displaced by infinity immigrants from the third world, have your nation’s social stability and culture destroyed, freeze in the winter, Bale in the summer, and you’ll be happy about underling!

TEW,

You should take refuge in solitary confinement for the near future. The means for taking this step will serve multiple purposes. Your time away from the social world will cut you off from whatever insane network of misinformation you have fallen into. It will also allow you to ‘reset’ your mental well-being. You will be able to realize, with time, the sky is not falling, Democrats are not ‘coming’ for you. You need some personal time, you need rest, you need peace. I look forward to reading posts from TEW that I remember from years past. Opinions I didn’t always agree with, but they were backed by intelligent thought and reason. I miss how things used to be, I miss an old foe named TheEaglesWin, I want to see him again.

Sincerely,

Aside from that really snazzy kmart uniform they let you keep, you'd know this better than anyone.

The eviction moratorium is to avoid creating more of a public health crisis.  I'm not saying it's the right move, but that's the thought behind it.

Tbh, if people got vaccinated we wouldn't have a public health crisis at this point and we wouldn't need an eviction moratorium.  Your move, Kz.

Making it illegal for homeowners to evict squatters for 18 months is so incredibly stupid to even the most braindead humans that it can't just be pathetic idiocy on the part of our government. There's got to be something more sinister behind their motivations.

It's not dumber than passing up a readily available vaccine during a public health crisis.  That's what's incredibly stupid.  Landlords can evict if more people get the shot.  That's my point.
