Teams know that there's about a 90 % chance that Hurts is going to run it. Hurts has to be allowed to pass it on some of those looks. Otherwise, the defense is just going to tee off.

Putting Hurts in isn't going to work unless he occasionally passes as well.   It's way too predictable otherwise.

Because it’s become predictable. Anytime he goes in, especially in that area of the field, they know it’s read option. If they’d have him just drop back and throw there, or run an RPO, it would keep the defenses guessing when he’s in.
