There is an entire cottage industry built around bilking Medicare dollars for people to "stay home to care for a family member or friend". I am not aware of any Medicare $$ paying a family member. There is a waiver program, but that's Medicaid which varies by state, and again, you have to be dead broke to qualify.

Trump said he had a plan but was full of ish. Republicans offered nothing. I don’t know how you do it what % Public vs Private but we’re all better off if it’s figured out I like the idea in theory that it could be like K-12 education: tax-paid public option and if you want more, pay for extra/private insurance. Some other countries that have "free health care" also have only certain things covered and you have to pay more for additional services, (say elective surgery for example). I think my problem is I don't trust our government to implement and run it and we are 21 trillion in debt. I'd like to see us get more financially stable and reduce wasteful spending before adding major programs. It also needs to be something bipartisan that is built for long-term success. ACA was something Republicans wanted to overturn immediately. We can't put something in place that will just be repealed when the next party is in power, it needs to be done properly.

I do think the country is in need of some serious leadership on a number of different levels right now though. I hope he can step up and keep the economy moving while getting us out of this virus. It seems that the rioting and division has settled down now that the alt left got what they wanted. Hopefully it stays that way.

November 9, 20204 yr 1 hour ago, Shepard Wong said: There will be certain policies that will be sops to the left but for the most part the Democratic Party over the past few years has clearly chosen moderates over further left leaning candidates with Biden being the obvious example. Not wanting to repeat the mistake that Republicans made in 2016 allowing a radical like Trump win the primary or the liberals in the UK made swinging too far left with Corbyn in the 2019, you saw the Dem primary candidate field choose to self narrow and coalesce behind a moderate like Biden to ensure Bernie didn't gain momentum and pull a majority in a split field. Among rank and file Dems, this was a very popular result. Bernie supporters didn't like it but that's par for the course. More radical right wingers hated moderates in their party when they managed to control the looneys. If Rs had done this behind Kasich in 2016, we’d all be far better off. Unfortunately, those days seem gone for the Republican Party. The Dem success in the 2018 midterms was almost exclusively tied to running qualified moderate candidates in areas outside the leftmost districts. At least in the short term of the next 4 years, I don't see the wild swing left many fear. Now if Biden is a one term president without making any progress in 'healing the rift' and either Trump returns to win or , even worse, someone eager to exploit many of the same vulnerabilities in the country but isn't actually an emotionally stunted moron, all bets are off. Personally I'm not optimistic long term. Between the Trump base and the far left wing, there are too many voters that seem to have little to no tether to reality. That kind of ignorance and stupidity usually has harsh repercussions. I keep seeing people declaring that this election saved our democracy, which seems naïve. I think it's far more likely that all we did was temporarily chase away the largest buzzard from a dying carcass. i voted for kasich, when trump took the nomination i knew my party had jumped the shark. i might be a little more optimistic about the long term, but the division in this country must be narrowed dramatically. the voices of the fringes need to be drowned out.

I don’t give a crap what you say one way or the other, I am literally just curious. BIDEN 2020! I’m a lifelong republican that voted for Biden. A republican senate will keep far far left ideas from passing. I’m fine with more liberal policies and rolling back a lot of Trumps policies, but I am def not down with Bernie type policies

Now get it done I honestly don't think he has to do much. I know everyone in here is hyper focused on masks, but I honestly think that's more because Trump wasn't. Either way, a mask mandate certainly can't hurt....but it doesn't appear to have stopped the spread in the European countries that have mandated it. The vaccine will come in the next month or two and once the elderly population is protected we can all take a deep breath. The media will then focus on the greatly reduced death rates (instead of new cases) and we can start to get back to normal. I hope that by the time Biden is inaugurated much of this will already be in play.

The republicans are going to need to find a way to keep the "new Trump right" working class engaged, so they are going to need his public endorsement of a candidate to get out the vote. This is especially true if mail in voting remains as strong as it was in this election. They're going to be looking for a new school candidate who was connected to Trump....but not too connected.

Honestly, it really wouldn't be in Biden's best interest to seriously appease for at least the first half of this term. I've read a few articles that state McConnell and Biden had a very good relationship when Biden was the VP and MM thinks very highly of him. Not that I think McConnell will get the senate to approve everything the president puts forward, but at least there is a friendship that can be a building block. Although the old McConnell might be gone after the last administration.
