No one cares if the board crashes or runs a little slow... most of us it reminds us of back in the day and is part of the nostalgia. It’s just great to have a place to call home!

i did like at the old board a little bit ago I’m surprised Dave actually showed his face around there, would be kinda cool if he signed up here.

I'm a semi-perfectionist (with regard to some things, definitely not everything lol), so when these sorts of issues pop up, they irritate me. Sort of like the Philadelphia skyline image up at the top of the board. That's been on the old EMB for a number of years, but never displayed properly (at least for me). So that was one of the first things that I wanted to have fixed over here.

I don't know if anyone else even knew that the image was there (on the old EMB), or if anyone even notices it here, but it was there and I wanted it to display properly or it would have bugged me to no end lol.

Like I said over on the old EMB, and in some threads here, Dave isn't to 'blame' with what's happening to the old EMB. I would suspect that the website (PE.COM and everything included with it, like the EMB), has an annual budget and whoever makes the budgetary decisions, had to make a call on whether to keep it or not. So I'm sure that this decision was just handed down, and there's nothing that anyone else could do to change it.

Like I mentioned before (someplace here or there) I'm grateful that we were given a 2 week heads up. I've seen other teams boards just up and vanish without warning. That would have royally sucked if it had happened to the EMB like that. The part that sucks with the EMB is that for those members who won't log in for a month or two, will show up and the EMB will be gone and they won't know what happened or where to go.

Don't know if you saw the press conference with howie and doug yesterday, but that was just awful. I think someone failed to pay their IT bill.

No, I didn't. I was probably on the phone (or in email) with GoDaddy. I saw very little of the actual draft, or at least was able to pay attention to very little of it.

There's good news, and there's semi-expected news.

The good news is, donations to the GoFundMe were high enough that we have the resources to upgrade to a more robust hosting package, even a fairly expensive one.

The semi-expected news is, that this was semi-expected. This is exactly why I wanted to be 'live' for the draft, to see if we'd be crushed or just what would happen.

As soon as I saw the CPU usage spike (the image that I posted in one of the threads), I got right on the phone to GoDaddy lol.

They have a few business plans that I can upgrade to. The most expensive of which, is about $2,000 per year. I still need some clarification from them as to the resources that we get with that package, but it sounded like it would be more than enough.

The upgrade that we opt for, probably won't be in place for 24 to 48 hours after I commit, so we likely won't see the benefits of it during the draft. But we'll get it worked out.

I experienced some slowness, but not too bad during round one. I was surprised it wasn't kind of bad- just because of the newness of the situation.

I had it time out on me a couple of times last night. But while watching the server activity, I saw a couple of points where we maxed out our allotted resources. So i wasn't surprised at the timeouts.

It held up pretty good, all things considered.

Wasn't as bad tonight, that I could tell, even though traffic was pretty close for both nights (so far).

Yeah, it was right around the same on Friday Night as it was on Thursday, but the board did better on Friday than it did on Thursday. I haven't looked at today's stats yet.

I’ve had it slow a couple times right at our picks but not for long and other then that it’s been smooth.

Lol I don't know why I overlooked this previous. For the cost of one PSL, the Eagles could have kept the boards running for an entire year.

Disgusts me that you had to go through all of this for us, because they wouldn't.

They could have simply gotten rid of the Ask Dave section if they were going to move all AMAs and team interactions to Reddit. And just kept the message boards for their team's fans.

Anyway, wonder if there is a way to piece together what the site needs for bandwidth/activity management, outside of their packages that add a bunch of "features" you don't need/intend to use. Often the profit margins on those higher packages will actually grow because the extra features cost very little to actually maintain.

I guess this thread is a good one to post about the hosting package...

Just got the hosting bill for the coming year of service (it bills on 4/15, our official 'board birthday').

I either forgot (or they didn't tell me when I called to upgrade the last time that I had to, which I think is the case) that our current plan (GoDaddy's "Expand" business package) jumped from $59.99/month (which was only for the first year) to $99.99/month after the first year.

I was a bit surprised :o when I opened the email lol.

I had thought that it was $59.99/month (which was only for the first year), so I was thinking that we were good to go for a couple of years, at least. We're good to go for this year, but at some point we may need to raise some funds for next year.

We currently (as of today) have $2,389.12 in the account, but once this year is paid, we drop to $913.48.

I'd expect to get between $200 and $500 from the various revenue streams (AdSense ...provided we don't get terminated , Amazon, Fanatics and any others that can be added) between now and next April 15th, but that revenue kind of fluctuates depending on guest activity (when AdSense isn't suspended) and usage of our affiliate links. So that amount  could be more, or it could be less.

Like I said, we're good to go for this year (as long as we don't have to upgrade again).

Ill definitely donate again whenever needed. For now Im using the affiliate links. I wish there were an unannoying way to temporarily remind people that those links are here, and remember to use them. I can use a reminder from time to time myself.

Probably one of the fastest ways to net the board a good amount (while earning $10 for yourselves), is Rakuten (for those that don't already have an account).

If someone signs up using our referral link (that's our link... well, it's my personal link but anyone that signs up with it, all of the funds will go to the boards bank account), the board gets $25 once the person signing up spends $25 at whichever site they're using (be it Amazon, Fanatics or where ever... provided that site is available through Rakuten and they click to the site through Rakuten). They will also get $10, so their $25 purchase effectively turns into a $15 purchase.

If we could get 50 members to do that, that's a full years worth of hosting right there.

(I bolded that line because just signing up isn't enough, $25 in purchases have to be made within 90 days for the board to get the $25 referral fee)

yeah. I have Rakuten already. Had it while it was still e-bates.

I really feel like we should do very well with amazon if everyone remembered to use it all of the time. I suspect a very small percentage of posters ever use it.

Me too (e-bates), I got back a few hundred dollars with it.

Fanatics actually pays more per order than Amazon, Amazon seems pretty stingy lol.

Our biggest revenue earner though, is AdSense. If we can keep it from being terminated.

Good cause I hate Amazon. Also the one day the AdSense thing kept popping up and I didn't know what it was because I didn't pay attention to what you were doing. I kept clicking on it to get it to go away or do something with it I was confused lol. So I hope whatever I did didn't cause the suspension

I actually hope it did. An accidental thing, is better than someone maliciously doing it. Accidents can be avoided a lot easier than someone doing it on purpose.

You shouldn't have seen any ads if you were logged in, though. Were you logged out?

I was logged in, I didn't see any ads just a red bar kept going across the top and had the word Adsense . I hit the x to close.it out but it kept popping up so I tried clicking on it to open it but nothing happened. Eventually it just went away.

I’ll admit I need to be better about using the links, but I’d also happily make a donation. Whatever keeps the board alive.

Oh ok, that was an 'announcement' asking everyone to not click any ads because we had the account suspended for 'invalid traffic'', not sure why you couldn't open it.
