I have to take the trash out.  I consider this a home improvement since I’ve hardly ever  had to do such a vile thing while there were males living with me!  Since the dumpster was emptied today I’m also cleaning out the basement fridge and unplugging it. A little sad I don’t need it but I shall be frugal,  keep the doors cracked open and stop paying for unneeded juice.  Will just wait and see what I’ll do with it.  Keep it, chuck it, or take it to the beach.

Doing my best to go a day at a time but you had to start another thread and I just want to get this done.  I will.  Soon.

Electrical is the one household task I stay away from. play it safe and consult with an electrician (maybe you have a neighbor or friend in the field?)

I use to be that way but after electrocuting schmoopie twice and myself once, I’ve gotten decent at it.  The only electrical job I won’t do is adding circuits to a breaker.  I need to add 3 and I’m going to call a guy for that.

I just caution people especially around older homes .......because I have seen some mind blowing stuff that is so dangerous that I can't believe there hasn't been a fire  Primarily the stuff that you cannot see because it is buried in ceilings or walls.

Knowing what you are comfortable with is half the battle. Be it electric ,plumbing ,dry wall ,carpentry or whatever.

On a related note, my rigid 18v impact is malfunctioning and I had to take it for warranty repair. Called in, they said I needed to take it to a certified warranty shop. Nearest one of those was in coopersburg, an hour away. Called them, they said I needed to come in and fill out paperwork, and drop off a $40 deposit, to get the warranty work started.

I have half a mind to sell the 2 rigid tools I have and start buying dewalt.....

My only rigid tool is a tile saw.  Everything else I have is Dewalt. So forgive my ignorance. I know they make good stuff, are they worth repair?  Or was this a fairly new tool and thus the warranty repair?

The 2 things that drew me to Rigid were the impact having more power than other companies (grunting sounds) and they have a lifetime warranty. I'll get the $40 back once they confirm its in warranty, but the fact that it's only a year and a half old, has minimal use, and it's a 2 hour round trip for warranty work is a little ridiculous.

it's what happens when you shop sears for the knock off brand.

Gotcha.

I also didnt realize they have a lifetime warranty.  Maybe I should have read the papers that came with my tile saw.

anyone tryout the Hart brand Walmart is assuming as their 'in house' brand (ie. craftsman, kobalt...) ? i'm asking for a friend who saw the line at his local walmart and brushed them off until they started popping up in a couple of the how to wood working youtube channels he watches.

Bungie cord it to the roof. But only use 1 bungie....

My father in law is coming over tomorrow to help me finish the bathroom.  He is a master plumber with over 30 years experience and I can spell PVC right 40% of the time.  So, yeah, he's hooking up the water\drainage.

Also, he's going to help me finish installing the door and the trim.   Doors I'm a total novice and trim I'm still learning the tricks, so I can use a hand.  Problem is, my brother in law asks me yesterday around 5ish if I could return his law's nail gun I was borrowing, so I need one ASAP.  I go on Lowes and find this.  Not super expensive ($90) and I can pick it up first thing in the AM in DE.  Sold.  Around 8 oclock I decide to pull up the same nail gun on Amazon to read reviews that were posted there.  I go to the website and not only is it cheaper ($70), but with Prime it would be delivered before 8 am today.  Sure enough, the package is delivered at 5:30 am.

How the hell is that possible?  Its not like gift cards where they have tens of thousands in stock around the country and can get it to you there same day.  It's a freaking nail gun ordered after hours.  All I can come up with is my Echo was spying on me when I was asking him about the gun at 5 and was prepping the order.

@paco........ and you're surprised by this? How do you think we all know when you and the missus are " busy"?

they use a nail canon for that.

Going to try to install crown molding for the first time and bought just enough material to get the job done. (I think)

I'm giving myself about a 20% chance at success.

So we're going about hiring an architect to draw out some addition plans for our house (in-law suite, adding a floor to the addition to turn into a master bed/bath, screened in porch, kitchen reno).  Biggest difference I've seen between certain groups is some just draw the plans, others draw but then manage the entire project from the contractor hiring/supplies etc.  The latter seems nice but also comes with a percentage charge for the cost of the entire project which adds up fast, and also seems kinda redundant to a construction foreman. I want to do it right but still that seems overkill if you can get a good contractor.

Anyone gone through this process before? Any ideas?

nail gun, measuring tape, miter saw is all you need however you should always buy two more sticks then you need for inaccurate cuts/measurements and at some point replacement. you'll be fine.

I was forced to abort.  Didn't account for the metal studs behind the one wall.  Can't nail the bottom edge of it into them.

Schmoopie moved on to painting and I'm going to finish a small electrical project in the meantime.

Anyone know how to adjust a garage door?  2 car garage,  one side is suddenly about 2 inches higher than the other side when closed.

Btw, very dangerous (as you'll see in the disclaimer)

Will be getting into the beach off season to do some work soon.  Can’t even begin to tell you how overwhelming finishing this task is in the hopes I will make Mr Di proud.

Cousins next door sent me their cabinet lay out.  The plumber needs base cabinets in. He wants to try and plumb both units in a day, or a weekend.  We don’t have any walls up yet, or the insulation, or the floors.  We both have bathroom floors in though.  Owner supplying the rest.  Since my unit is not as wide, I would like to keep it as open as possible.  The finished look theme I’m aiming for is iron pipe and rope.  So instead of getting any upper cabinets I like the farmhouse iron wood shelves.  Question is, I can get the pipe fittings/brackets at a decent price, but the wood is a little much.  Will it hold up to the elements?  (Warp in the winter?). Could I buy some tile pieces to make the shelves?  The edges showing would look stupid right?  Just pondering. I need help.  And wine!   Already picked out an iron hanging wine rack that also has glasses hanging under.  Also a coffee sign with the shelve under with hooks for 6 mugs.

I think the bases that I sent off will work. Have 9 ft and I’m short of that but there’s a dreaded corner cabinet I hope works with not knowing if I’m getting a standard   Fridge or less.  Less is more in this unit.

Don’t get me started on the loft areas of these tiny cottages.  Next door is standard 8 ft. They have little kids and are trying to figure out access.  My side is 9.5ft.  I know mr Di had a vision but I just don’t know what it was!!   My solution to getting up there is a telescopic ladder.  Bring it out when you need it, and if not, it folds up like a folding chair. I picture maybe some grab bars up there in the middle with the pipe and rope railing on either side.  It maybe just storage but if you want to climb up there, there’s room for more sleeping.

I do appreciate any suggestions as I have no idea what I’m doing. If you could even read all this.  Jesus.

I can't help you with much, but a telescopic ladder sounds like a good idea.  Just don't get a cheap plastic one.
