My son just left.  I made him spaghetti meatballs and garlic bread.  He put some trim up. The ceiling piece looks good.  The sides not so much so I will be caulking.  Baseboard still not done. Couldn’t find any nails and kid didn’t have saw to cut floor to fill the register pieces in!

yeah that quarter-round trim should be ashamed of itself

I really hate spring and all this clean up stuff!  It's hard work.  I am sore today.

Can you guys please advise me on the best way to restore the yellow yucky headlights on your vehicle's?  From watching tutorials today, I guess the 1st thing is to determine how bad it is.  Like is the factory coating still on there at all?  My car is old (2011), so I assume it's pretty bad.  I had it detailed a few times and they have been "buffed" but it's been a while.  I do have a hand sander, so I'm thinking of sanding off and then putting some sort of uv protection stuff on there.  Would love to do it right and hopefully never have to do it again before I die!

Cleaned the whole inside of my car yesterday, ran her thru the car wash today-even paid for an under carriage rinse.  That was weird!  LOL! Thank you, Mr. Wizard!  I also have some rust to be worked on.  My brother-in-law looked at it and said it is just surface rust-no holes.  I'd really like to get that done before I have it parked down by the water in the summer.  Think I may also start to back into my parking spot at work to keep the direct sun rays off the headlights.

Speaking of rust, I paid $60. for some supplies and thought I would get 4 metal deck chairs re-painted.   Well, I got one done. Pic attached.  Bought in 2001.  Also bought a gal of round up and sprayed and pulled some weeds.  Looking for planter ideas too-like something I may have laying around instead of buying new.  Not an old toilet though!

Griots garage restoration kit looks ok to me to use if I did my research correctly. I may give it a whirl but not tonight. Officially off duty!

a palm sander is likely too powerful for what you want to do for the headlights. some elbow grease and a non gel toothpaste should do the trick, you want to lightly sand the lens, not power through it. too much force (ie power tool used to remove a layer of wood) will etch/scratch the lens.

if willing, get Arthur to lick them. i know for a FACT his tongue is pretty corrosive in a mild way. not acidic but still stimulating.

I managed 2 more chairs yesterday and today my hands, wrists, and forearms are killing me.  One day I am just going to admit to myself that I no longer possess the stamina and strength it takes to remove 23 years of rust from a piece of outdoor furniture.  It was still way cheaper than buying new.  I am a poorer.  A dear friend that I had dinner with last week re-gifted me what was left on a Lowes gift card.  I used that for flowers, spray paint and more caulk.  Did not attempt any caulking in the spare room.  Will have to wait until my hands are better.

I went down to the bay on the 19th.  My access card would not work. WTF?  There was another resident just inside the gate by the dumpsters so I asked if she would let me in.  She did.

Since there is still some soffit left to install on the outside, some birds decided to take up residence in the back corner. Also, since that particular corner on the inside is still not totally under cover, they were flying around all winter long.  I had a plate on a shelf that was my grandmothers from Italy (of a bird no less!) and it was in a thousand pieces.  Bird stuff and other debris everywhere.  One thing I did do right was I covered up the furniture with old sheets that we use for drop clothes. I borrowed a neighbor's card to get my son in.  I cleaned inside, and he cleaned outside.  I had parts with me for the outside water valve to be replaced that had frozen last year.  It actually worked this year, but the shower didn't.  It leaked. Waiting on a delivery now to fix the shower.  Son did get it so we can still use the water, just no shower yet.  The electricity flickered a few times so not sure what that was about.

After I texted the owner 3 times that day, there was no response.  Luckily yet another neighbor was leaving at the same time we were, so she let us out.  I sent another text on Monday after double checking that everything was paid.  She has my money, and I can't get in.  This of course did not sit well with me all week. Still no reply.  All week! On Sunday I sent a snarky text and that is the one she answered!  These are the kind of people that I deal with down there. Why would you not reply and simply say you activated the cards? Both my kids went down on Sunday, but I stayed home with the dog as I was still reeling.  Last week was also the 4th anniversary for Mr. Di. I'd spent every one of them there, but I could not this year since I was locked out!

I was not in my right mind that 1st year and I really should have insisted on something in writing if they wanted us to finish the construction. I probably should have walked away.  I was provided a lease for this year.  Last year I only paid for amenities. Can only hope it gets completed this year-not much left to do.  Hoping the owner doesn't piss me off again. I'll be heading down tomorrow. I'm going to leave the match's at home.  This time.

Sorry so long, needing some hope instead of a nightmare.

Some pics from the will it ever get done cottage. Few shots of the mess I walked into in May.  Happy to report the birds have left the nest. Still waiting on my son to fix the shower.  My daughter and I have been doing whatever we can.  Have some curtains and blinds up now.  Few new decorative things.  Another tear down and re-build behind us on the 2nd row.  Looks better than mine, but that guy is a contractor.  Going to spend the long weekend there.  Will see if can get anything done.

Over the 4th I was able to hang up the anchor and chain.  Son came down for the fireworks on Saturday and stayed to work on the shower Sunday.  By that time, I had enough of the heat and headed home. Washed my hair in the kitchen sink with the squirty thing.  Worked well having to improvise.  Hope to send more pics next week.  They are having a band and a beer truck this weekend.

Is this one of those little old "tents" from the Methodist revival camp meetings?  Based on the recent pictures, it looks really small and faces some common ground, like some of the camps that you see on Martha's Vineyard or scattered in the woods in different areas near the beach towns.

They started out as cottages.  Currently there are campers and some trailers also on the property.

If interested in the history, here's a link and some old pics.  I used some of this info for a scrap/guest book I made from demolition thru 2023.

A few weeks ago, we had a severe thunderstorm.  A window in my bedroom broke.  Thankfully it didn't shatter like in a tornado. Just cracked in several pieces.  The landlord actually came and measured it and will fix this.  Hopefully soon.

Not much happening at the bay improvement wise.  Son has the shower rigged so it's usable -and at this point just leaving it so can open the valves and it won't freeze this winter.

This pic from Saturday.

The remnants of Debby had the river come all the way up and under the cottage.  Thankfully no damage.

I have carpenter bees.    I believe they are in the soffit which most of it is still exposed. So now I'm learning how to get rid of them and getting this place under control is now becoming an emergency in my mind.  I'm not sure I can do this much longer without melting down into total defeat.  I need help.  One of the neighbors gave me a trap and I put it by the back door which is one spot where I see them flying around. I also clean this one spot on the windowsill every week so thinking that's 2 nests.  Jesus.  I'll be blowing up phones this week to get some help.

I kept busy hanging rope in the back room. Went around the ceiling. Opted to use the caulk gun with liquid nails instead of the gorilla glue which was awful to work with.  It seemed to dry so I took the tape down before I left yesterday.  I also put another paint coat on the lower part of this wall. It was the brighter white, but I don't care.  It's what I had, and it was just enough.   This is an old dresser I refinished in 2022.  It's finally down there.

Carpenter bees are better than regular bees (easier to deal with) since they aren't part of a hive.  I've seen different techniques to remove them. Personally, I would cut about a 4" piece of a 2x4 or a 1x4 ( or cut it a size to fit the area) and drill a bigger hole through it than the bee hole size. Then I would put something removeable like 2 sided tape on the top and then just stick a strong pest glue trap on the bottom. When the bee tries to come out, it will stick to the glue trap.

Looks like that water got pretty high. Just make sure nothing shifted on your blocks or the foundations under them.

I reported the debris issue to the folks.  It might be flying ants. We have this weekend and next to close up for the season.

Back in Avondale-I was down in the basement getting cleaned and set up for that abysmal TB game and I discovered a water leak, an oil leak (from the oil tank) and one of the neon lights wouldn’t light. While I am a little calmer than when Mr Di first passed, I still had the thought of lighting a match and leaving.  Today the old tank is pumped out thanks to my son. Landlord brought over another. Previously used of course.  It’s piped in except for the oil lines. While it was outside last night I spray painted it and put down some oil dry.  Thankful the odor is not that bad.  Landlord also put new glass in my broken window.  Raised my rent another $100.  And water bill is double thanks to the Aqua debacle the township passed.  Looking at rents around here I’m still under going to a new unit and I have double the sq ft.  Not leaving.

Redoing the powder room.  All that's left to do is put it back together!

You can film your Saw movie in that room

While I try my hardest to paint a room cleanly, it always ends up a mess.  And I'm not talking about being far sighted so I struggle with lining up tape.  I just get paint everywhere.  I'm not being careless, but it just seems I'm so focused on the area I'm painting that I lose sight of everything 1 inch from the brush.

Oh, you want an example?   This was the VERY FIRST cut in I did last night:

Ah, it will turn out great.  You do good work.

Last sunset of the season.
