It was gold and the rest of my day was WAY more productive because of it. I've just switched a little. I was finding it hard to find an hour around lunch so now I do some weights in the morning when I can find half hour and then I do another workout in the PM. Sometimes that's just 15-20 minutes but other days I find a bit longer.

I don't get chance to stay on top of emails during the day so I clean up at the end of each day (usually starting after 6pm when i know email traffic will be quieter).

Friday off. If I have no choice, will move a time in order to accommodate work, but I won't skip a day. Frankly, I end up thinking through work issues while riding. Yeah hard to get totally away from the work topics but you do release a lot of endorphins and create a lot of energy and at least to some extent your mind can get a break even if only for part of the workout. 1 hour ago, Dave Moss said: I usually start answering e-mails and texts at 5 p.m. I didn't realize Piggly Wiggly had started with email. Being able to do that every day has been the best part of working from home. I did that when I was in the office. There was a gym there, so if the weather was bad, I’d run on a treadmill. I’d do about 2-4 miles a day. Now that I’m home, I’m finding it harder to do that (between weather being bad, kids needing help while being virtual, and finding it harder to take my lunch at the right time). We did get an email today saying we can come back into the office next week, if we’d like. I don’t expect many to jump at it, but wouldn’t be surprised if they start having us come in soon after. I’m the only one on my team in the US, so hopefully I won’t need to.
February 11, 20214 yr Jobs shouldn't be based on an hour model. People waste time filling hours with busy work, or pretend to work, stretch out tasks to fill time, socialize, etc. Jobs should be based on productivity. Tasks completed per hour, projects with deadlines, or results oriented. Jobs should also be flexible since people have appointments and families. Flexibility to leave early to beat traffic and login later to catch up. As long as the work gets done. You have to trust people and hold them accountable to deliver results. If they don't, you get rid of them and get someone else. That's not possible in every line of work of course but wherever possible it should.

I gave everyone everything then needed with only a few loose ends that I was going to tie up in the AM before we started our day (I'm the early riser in the relationship). This PM must have called me a dozen times. At one point he called frantically about a "gap" that "he found". paco: Why were you not aware of this? I sent you a full email stating what the issue is and what support we need from you to help resolve this. "PM": Oh, I didn't understand it so I ignored it. I. Fing. Lost. It. After chewing his ear off for a good 15 minutes about how not only has he dropped the ball that is eating in on my vacation time, there were times in the past he pulled the same s*** and left on vacation with things unresolved causing the client to panic that I had to clean up while he was out of office relaxing. I was livid, pacing in circles and yelling into the phone. The rest of the people on the beach must have thought I was a lunatic. And then the Mrs. turned to the people sitting next to you, and with air quotes went "he’s "working” 9 hours ago, NOTW said: Jobs shouldn't be based on an hour model. My dad never really understood what my job was and apparently after that 6 weeks he just told people "I don't know, he just yells at people most of the day"

In dealing with being under staffed with too many projects and requests I'm always looking for ways to be efficient, innovative and delegate.
February 11, 20214 yr Labor Secretary Horrified To Learn Some Americans Working Jobs They Do Not Truly Enjoy WASHINGTON—Saying he fears the number may be in the thousands or possibly even millions, U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez announced at a press conference Wednesday that he was horrified to learn some Americans are currently working jobs they do not truly enjoy. "It has recently come to my attention that there are people in this very country who are not intensely passionate about what they do for a living,” said a visibly alarmed Perez, adding that he was both shocked and distressed to learn that there are individuals in nearly every economic sector whose job is not a source of immense satisfaction and who do not feel deeply privileged to have it. "As incredibly unsettling as this sounds, many of these folks will spend years, sometimes their entire career, simply going through the motions, rarely experiencing a sense of profound fulfillment after a day’s work. I cannot imagine earning a paycheck doing something other than what makes me happiest in life, but evidently that is the case for some truly unfortunate people out there.” Perez went on to say he was equally disturbed to discover that many Americans are compensated with wages that do not cover the cost of the lifestyle they always dreamed of.
