I know the fans don't get a say but after this fiasco I'm not sure that'll fly. Can you imagine if Sudfeld had to come in and was limited and we lost a play off game?

Does it make it any better if you replace Sudfeld with Hurts in the scenario?

In my opinion? No not on the field.

Doubt they could get anything for Sudsy now. They lost all leverage they would have had. I also don't see them keeping 3 QB's unless they resign him to the practice squad. Might as well move on from him at this point and try to find a younger guy to put there.

Right... And so if Wentz goes down we should feel absolutely fine about a rookie coming in? OK gotcha.

????  So Sudfeld is not on the team??  Where are you coming from lately?????  I thought you kept up with the roster - apparently not.

They didn't lose any leverage. A lot of teams carry 3 QB's and the Eagles have done so in recent years because of Wentz. Assuming teams get back to playing in the pre-season there are always injuries and teams are always looking to upgrade their backup QB. Sudfeld would be valuable to a team like the Steelers or maybe the Patriots.

What?

We still need him to be our Backup next season. Especially with no offseason activities.

I think he was talking about if we got rid of Suds.

Just thinking out loud here.  Now that we drafted Hurts, do you think we would/could trade him?  What sort of compensation would he be worth?  He just signed a cheap one year deal.

We could potentially recoup a draft pick as well as have a young quality backup locked up for the next four years.  It would definitely soften the blow of giving up a second rounder.

I thought about this as well. And the answer I came up with was zilch.

He's better off staying here and will likely be the #2 until Hurts is ready.

Don't forget the roster increased. May make more sense to carry 3 QBs especially since we did it last year.

Could do but isn't it a weird increased roster? The 2 extra places are for PS players that you can protect or something? Given the extra game and the 1 less bye week in the play offs I think they should be increasing the roster.

I still think if they have faith in Hurts then just go with 2, we can always find a 3rd QB off the street.

Nate was a FA and could have signed anywhere. I dont think there is much of a market for him or he would have signed somewhere else to begin with instead of resigning with the Birds for a year.

Eagles are speculating that there will be a season..and some teams QB will go down, and someone will offer a decent value for Sudfeld.

Or they are speculating that there won't be a college season and so teams will be increasingly desperate next year.

Suds hasn't shown much I will tell you that. We were told a few years back he was elevated from the PS because he was the best kept secret in the NFL. I'd love to see that side of him when he's out there.

Exactly. They asked McCown to come out of retirement last year and in doing so guaranteed him the back up job for the full year.

Why did we bring him back? Makes no sense now.

Sudfeld is the only QB on the roster other than Wentz that knows the offense.  Despite being a 2nd round pick, Hurts is a project - he has a lot to learn before he'll be ready to step in should Wentz miss time.  Hurts will be the backup of the future.  So it makes perfect sense to have Suds back.

I don't think it does because I don't think they trust Sudfeld when push comes to shove. I think they talk like they do but their actions say differently.

They trusted him to be #2 last year - they didn't bring in McCown until Sudfeld was lost for multiple weeks to injury.  I'm sure to lure him out of retirement they promised him he'd remain #2 for the remainder of the season, regardless of Sudfeld returning.  So Suds was basically a victim of their loyalty.

They trusted him so much they brought in McCown and made him back up? Despite Sudfeld only missing a couple of regular season games as his injury wasn't a major one.

They weren't going to go into a string of a few regular season games without ANY backup QB (while Sudfeld was on the shelf) - especially considering Wentz's injury history and the fact that they felt they had a SB contending team.  And obviously when adding one so late (just as the regular season was about to start) and basically the need to get up to speed as quickly as possible means adding a seasoned vet.

They could have brought in another body. They didn't have to bring in McCown and guarantee him the back up job. And apparently they were interested in McCown before Sudfeld even got hurt.

Studfield is 2 and Hurts 2A, Hurts will be the Taysom Hill/Slash type of player. Studfeld will just be a number 2. If Wentz gets Hurt, then Studfield comes in and Hurts gets snaps increase even more. The next year after Studfeld's contract is up, Hurts slides in to number 2 spot and we get another QB in 5-7 rd or UDFA route and the QB factory ramps up. Lauletta might slide into 3rd spot. Coming out of college, Hurts resume is amazing to me. Comparing Studfeld, Lauletta and Hurts coming out of college based on stats and career, it is not close, Hurts is a great QB. I am happy we have a cheap QB for 4 years to back up Wentz, so we can put more money toward resigning and extending our players, be a player in the trade market and FA market. We can't afford the vet contracts anymore for backup QBs because of Wentz's contract. It is a good thing, we found our QB of the now and future in Wentz. I am happy.

Who knows? Things are changing too fast to uproot the entire social fabric, to make any rational decisions. Its all speculation.

Sudfeld still sits at #2 position.  But it won't be long.  Hurts is pushing for that spot.  When that happens, Sudfeld is better off goes to another team.  The #3 spot goes to Lauletta.

The team usually has 4 QBs at TC.  But this year not sure how that would work.  Sudfeld could stay in the mix in TC, but it could also go to another QB project.

Sudfield doesnt have much on tape oitside of preseason to garner much interest.

When mcnabb got hurt AJ feeley came in and won games then was traded for a 2nd round pick, turns out he was more a product of Reids qb friendly system.

Kevin Kolb had a few good games then got traded for a high pick.

If Sudfield had anything on tape he might have some interest but hes done jack.

Having said that i like him. He reminds me of foles, not very mobile might have a bigger arm than foles but similar skill set size and athletic ability.
