May 31, 20241 yr https://finance.yahoo.com/news/feds-favored-inflation-gauge-slows-in-april-while-price-increases-remain-sticky-123112330.html The latest reading of the Fed's preferred inflation gauge showed inflation slowed in April as prices increased in line with Wall Street expectations. The core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, which strips out the cost of food and energy and is closely watched by the Federal Reserve, rose 0.2% in April, in line with Wall Street's expectations but slower than the 0.3% increase seen in March. On Thursday, New York Fed president John Williams said he believes inflation will start declining again in the second half of 2024. "I see some of the recent inflation readings as representing mostly a reversal of the unusually low readings of the second half of last year, rather than a break in the overall downward direction of inflation," Williams said in a speech at the Economic Club of New York. Economists have reasoned that further declines in inflation later this year could keep a September interest rate cut on the table.

Hybrids though are still overall better when looking at the full picture. I recently read this: Quote Manufacturing an EV results in more global warming emissions than manufacturing a comparable gasoline vehicle. This is chiefly due to the energy and materials required to produce an EV’s battery. However, most of the global warming emissions over the lifespan of today’s vehicles occur during use, so the reductions from driving an EV more than offset the higher manufacturing emissions. Our most recent analysis of manufacturing emissions compared the average gasoline sedan (32 mpg) to the average-efficiency EV car with a 300-mile-range battery. We found that the EV reduces total lifetime emissions 52 percent and an EV pickup truck reduces lifetime emissions 57 percent compared with the average gasoline pickup.
