Posted March 8, 20214 yr Can anyone bring me up to speed on this British stuff that has something to do with Oprah?
March 8, 20214 yr There was an interview of Meghan and Harry on TV last night. I didn't watch it, because who cares? I hear they aired some dirty laundry about the family. Why is there a British monarchy anyway?

March 8, 20214 yr Quick recap to bring you up to speed. We used to have to care about them. We dumped some of their stupid tea into a harbor and gave them all the finger. Now we don't care about them unless it involves nudes.
March 8, 20214 yr Didn't watch it but heard they aired a lot of dirty laundry Also heard they've been living with Tyler Perry lately
March 8, 20214 yr Carson Wentz look-alike banged a mixed-race broad, which upset some of the racial purists in the family.
March 8, 20214 yr Wealth and power is why I think people care. Queen reigns over 6.6 billion acres. The Catholic Church is largest non-governmental land owner. Lineage and all that way back history of Royals is sort of interesting to me. I do think after this current Queen is gone, the hoopla will die down and Royals will be just more ceremonious. The Crown may get another season of material yet! I have no issue with Harry and Megan breaking away. Good for them. I didn't realize that is was early on before the break that they were told baby Archie would not be given a title. Seems to me things started going down hill from there. I missed the whole interview. Just got the highlights.

Here’s what I could gather from watching a few minutes of the interview: Meghan was mad that Carson got benched in the middle of the season. Was he playing great? No but neither were his teammates. But it’s like, she couldn’t say anything because apparently Jeffrey Lurie sets super strict rules about what the spouses of players can say. So it’s like, it was just a very tough spot to be in for her. There’s all these rumors flying around about her being mean to Jalen Hurts. But that’s not true. She has no beef with Jalen, Jalen was just doing his job too. No hard feelings or anything. And Howie wasn’t helping matters either. Why didn’t he come out and squash all the rumors about Carson and Doug not talking to each other? Or what she said or didn’t say to Jim Schwartz? Other rumors happen and Howie goes out there and puts them down. Why not these? And the writing was on the wall, the team wasn’t going to build around Carson. So why would they stay in Philly? Her feeling was, if they weren’t going to treat Carson the way other franchise QBs get treated, then clearly they aren’t wanted and so it’s best to leave. So in the end, she’s now in a better place with her and Carson going to Indianapolis. Carson gets a fresh start. She can finally speak her mind. So all is well. Oh and somewhere along the way her and Carson lived with Tyler Perry for a brief stint.

March 9, 20214 yr Marry someone whose family can’t stand them, don’t be surprised when your family can’t either.
March 9, 20214 yr I agree with most of you. Who cares. Who gives an F. The UK shouldn't have a monarchy anymore.

No doubt there are real issues in the family and I'd be shocked if we didn't find some level of bigotry, etc. (think we just heard some) but it comes across as very shallow to see these two unbelievably privileged people sit in an interview and complain about things like someone not liking the wedding dress. I mean come on... The stuff about worrying about a baby's skin color is the one thing that jumped out at me. The Royals should be verbally beaten for that one should they choose not to go out publicly and clearly distance themselves from that line of thinking.

Oh make no mistake the Royals are going to respond to that and are going to distance themselves from those comments. The Queen apparently wants extra time to consider their response. But I can absolutely see Prince Phillip making a comment like that. I'm pretty sure he's made racist comments in the past.

I'm sure you're correct. btw - The way I look at it, keeping them around should be purely based on the business case. Do they generate a net profit for the UK (plus jobs) OR do they represent a net cost? I'm assuming they don't cancel themselves thru really bad handling of this and related topics. The things I've seen to date suggest that they are a big money maker and job producer for the UK. However, I have no idea if those studies were legit or who commissioned them.

The stuff about someone being concerned about the baby's skin color, if that's true, that's really messed up. But all the other stuff? Hard for me to feel bad for people who live in mansions and palaces, never having to worry about being in need or want of something, and don't even have a real job.
March 9, 20214 yr Is anyone actually surprised the baby's skin color came into question? I'm not. I've heard other people talk about it, wondering what the skin color and hair color would be.
