most likely we will need 2 safeties. Rodney will start on PUP.

We did draft Wallace last year.  Just like I've said with Hurts, it would be nice to give him an extended look and not just automatically write him off.

Maybe Slay isn't as good as advertised, his coach in Detroit pretty much told him so.

It's pretty difficult to have any kind of expectations on how good any player moving forward since we have an entirely new coaching staff installing new schemes.  There should be a blank slate on all players right now ... the evaluation process should start with the first camps held with the new coaches.

What I meant is most likely we will need 2 starting safeties. I am perfectly fine if it is Wallace, Epps, or whom ever they draft. This position has been ignored during draft for years because we were spoiled with having Jenkins and Rodney there. Howie as usually failed to draft and groom a proper safety...which is exactly the responsibility of GM. Some GM we are having. Overpays for old guys, kicks the can down the road, fails to draft proper replacements. I used to say "At least we are not Cleveland"..Now I wish we were Cleveland! At least they thought that Wentz was not a franchise QB. LOL. I am laughing ..but it is sad how true this is.

That would be ideal, but I think in reality we will need to make do with one and hope Wallace and Epps can hold the fort. We will add one in the draft as well.

Exactly what I meant . We will need 2 starting safeties..and it is irrelevant if they are already on the roster or we draft them. I like Epps. Had some nice interceptions last year. Need to take a long look at other candidates as well.

I am neither a Howie hater or fan. He gets too much abuse for some draft choices and contracts that don't work out. He doesn't get enough abuse for effectively ignoring the D in the draft for the last 5 years. Everybody blamed Schwartz or his scheme, but the fact is there was just a major talent deficiency.

It's okay to let guys like Jenkins/Bradham go but you need to have guys in line to replace them. We didn't.

My number one problem with the Eagles is how they don’t pick replacement players soon enough, but here’s where Howie has to be criticized, because his replacements aren’t working out. He’s spent numerous picks on secondary players and the best one he drafted was Mills. He took, Bradly, Taylor, and Wallace last year and I’m still not sure if any of them can even play. Nate Gerry was his pick. On top of that Howie put so much money into the defensive line he couldn’t make good enough FA signing to make up for his horrible defensive drafting. You see it all comes back to Howie.

Belicheat let Chung walk, and he came here and got paid. He went back to the Patriots and become good again. Belicheat at least knows how to properly use his talent to minimize their weaknesses. The carousel of corners from last season already forgotten. Sidney Jones leaves the Eagles yet somehow looks better. Agholor leaves the Eagles yet somehow looks better. Rasul Douglas leaves the Eagles and looks better. Now Jalen Mills is teamed with the greatest coach in football. I think he has a better chance of succeeding with that guy than failing.

Ronald Darby had the 5th most passes defended in the whole NFL last season, he was ranked among the best free agent corners available this year, all the signs point to the Eagles secondary coaching and scheme being an absolute clown car of ineptitude the last 5 years.

I always thought that Schwartz's scheme was a corner killer.

5 former Eagles DB's released since 2016 appeared in the Top 50 for Pass Defenses last season (Rowe, Jenkins, Douglas, Jones and Darby), meanwhile the Eagles highest ranked player was McLeod at 79, the talent we've let walk the last 5 years on the back end of the defense is ridiculous, Chandon Sullivan who we released after 2018 had as many pass defenses as Darius Slay.

Ronald Darby had more defenses than all our corners combined, he looked like the corner we thought we were getting from Buffalo. Slay was a good corner in Detroit but only average with us, Robey Coleman was consistently rated one of the top slot corners in the country for the Rams and absolutely sucked here. We've wasted good players with horrible coaching and schemes.

That's what I've been saying all along!! They can't possibly all be this terrible some of this has to fall on the coaches and scheme.

Freaking Slay Is one of the all time leading corners in pass deflections and he comes here and looks completely lost when the ball is in the air.

Jesus, Johnston was about the only guy who did his job at a consistently high level last season, the one position where we had someone among the best in the league. The best punter in team history, although to be fair he probably got more practise than most of his competitors.

I'm not sure with our current contracts that I want one of the highest paid punters in the NFL as well. I doubt we'll see a very noticeable drop-off without him. A lot of punters that may have a  lower average punt length actually have better hang time than him. It does suck to have to find a new holder on kicks as well, though.

So true, when AR knew it was time to replace Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor he drafted Lito & Sheldon the year before they planned to replace them. That gave them a year under their belt before taking over.

Nate Sudfeld? Remember when Howie said part of the reason they drafted Hurts was because Nate wanted to sign somewhere he had a chance to start?

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Mills thrive in NE. I will always state my problem never really is with letting players go. My problem comes when they don’t replace the player. Who replaces Mills?

For a time in Curry’s career I though he might have become really good to great, but ultimately it never really happened. Still he was a good rotational guy for the Eagles.

He was indeed (a good rotational guy).  I was stoked when we drafted him and also thought he could be special but unfortunately never reached that level.  I was glad to see him return after his stint in TB to be part of a rotation but am happy he signed elsewhere now ... we need to focus on playing the young guys.  It wouldn’t have made sense to bring him back now.

They need to extend Sweat soon, he's put up 10 sacks over the last 2 years despite only playing a shade over a third of snaps, other teams will notice that sort of production on limited playing time.

I know we are still up against the cap a bit now and will need $5-7M (or whatever) to sign the draft picks, but hoping Howie can find a trade partner for Ertz to net another draft pick (even if in 2022 ... we now have 11 in 2021 ... that's a lot).  That will free up another $5M and we still have $4M in cap savings coming after June 1 following the restructure/release of Jeffery and Malik Jackson.  That $9M could be used to give extensions to Sweat and Goedert.

Mills is not nearly as bad as a lot of people make out on this board.

Believe me when I tell you, he was every bit as bad as people made him out to be.
