So, using a 2nd round pick to troll Dallas 2 out of the last 3 years?

Not standing alone - but killing two birds with one stone, why not?  If the Eagles were getting a good backup AND denying Dallas a potential future starting QB, I say the pick is a home run if he pans out.

After the playoff loss Howie said "can he run?” "Is he healthy?” "Does he love to play?” Then the Eagles proceeded to draft receivers, a quarterback, linebackers, and offensive lineman. So what do people think that means?

Hurts is a very accurate and Athletic QB. Taysom Hill is not a QB. I feel sorry for Hurts if the Eagles will try to make a gadget player out of him. I am fully onboard with Hurts being a backup QB, or potentially a starting QB, if this was the plan. The locker room situation may be tense.

Here's my take. He's either Russell Wilson or the Eagles made a bad pick.

If you have the chance to draft Russell Wilson in the second round, you do it. It doesn't matter who your qb is or what else you need, you don't pass on Russell Wilson in the second round.

If he's not Russell Wilson, then the Eagles messed up.

I am giving him a redshirt year due to a lack of OTAs. But by next preseason, this kid should be looking like the greatest draft steal since...Russell Wilson.

Interesting take.

Yeap, when Wentz gets injured not if, Imagine if Hurts comes in for him and lights it up... I so see it happening if the NFL season starts in the next 2 years..

The only way this pick makes sense is if they genuinely have doubts about Wentz being our long term quarterback.

Otherwise you sign a backup like Flacco or Keenum and take a project quarterback to develop.

Hell, Flacco still lives in the area.  If no starting gigs become avaliable, he might jump at the chance to play here

Hurts for Lamb?

It's on Doug and the other 243 offensive coaches to design plays to make it work with both Wentz and Hurts.

IF we would have drafted a QB in the 4th or later, I would have been fine knowing he is a project. If we drafted a wanna be QB in the 5th or later, who is fast and athletic, I would be real excited. But Hurts, is a Great Competitor and a very fine QB, He has proven it. There is no way that I can think of, that Hurts will not be perceived as a direct competitor to Wentz...Especially if he is as accurate as he was in college.

According to Howie and the Eagles

QB is the # 1 position. they want to be a QB factory.
They needed a back up.
Sudfeld wants to be a starter and they want to get ahead of it.
2017 showed us the importance of having a capable back up.
The Eagles plan to use hurts like Tysom Hill.

Not a coherent message is it?

To me it's still not enough to pick Hurts at 53 over many players that could come in and started right away.

Also, he may want to be a starter, I'm sure he does but the rest of the league don't seem to see it that way.

Not yet. We shall see when Howie tries to trade him.

What Sudfeld? Wasn't he a FA? And we ended up bringing him back?

The Eagles have a history of trading QB's for picks. Andy Reid did it. Doug wants to do it as well. 😀

They have done it perhaps more than most. But this factory thing? It's nonsense.

I just think that this experiment has failed so many times.  The only way this makes sense to me is if they aren't happy with Wentz and want to trade him next year for a king's ransom to let this kid take the helm.  I don't think that's the case, and therefore I don't like the pick.

Agreed. It only makes sense if Wentz isn't the long term answer and they are having doubts. And since they gave him a long term deal last year and he then played all 16 regular season games and took a cheap shot in the play offs that caused concussion I doubt they've changed their mind on him.

We've ended the past 3 years with a backup QB playing in playoff games.  2016 SB champion Patriots relied on a Garoppolo (a second round pick) to win games early in the year when Brady was suspended.  2019 Saints went 5/5 with Bridgewater against a pretty tough schedule on their way to a 13 win season.  Bridegwater's salary was 7.25 million for that year.

Backup QBs can make or break a team and good ones tend to cost either significant draft capital, and that's only going to become more significant as the number of games increases and first round byes are down to 1.

I think you are greatly overestimating this guys talent.

Just a tad.

Wilson is one of the best QBs in the league. Hurts... Let's see but he won't be reaching that level whilst in Philly.

I like the pick. A cheap back-up. A potential great starting quarterback. I'm not a talent evaluator but looking at his record 38 wins 4 losses,  and stats, 2019 - 3rd in passer rating, 7th in all of ncaa in comp percentage what is considered his weakness. 2nd in qb rushing yards , way above any top tier qb.  2nd place in Heisman voting. They are also getting an interim gadget play, quarterback. I think he could be the next Donovan Mcnabb,  without the headcase issues. When I look at all the moves the Eagles made in the later rounds I even like the pick more. I think this was a great draft. I hope the Eagles draft like this for the foreseeable future.

I didn't draft the guy in the second round. I have no idea how good or bad he can be.

The Eagles drafted him. They think he can be really good, at the expense of a second-round pick that could have been used to upgrade the team. Plus rated corners/linebackers/receivers were sitting right there for them.

The only reason you do that is because you think he can be really good, not because you think, "Hey, this guy is the next Jacoby Brissett."
