I hated the pick because you need to go all in on Wentz after giving him that contract. Second round pick would have been better utilized by drafting another WR for him.

Or if the rumors of Atlanta wanting 53 to trade up for Lamb... you do that deal all day over drafting Hurts with that pick instead.

The only way this doesn’t turn out to be a horrible pick is if Wentz pulls an Andrew Luck and retires in the next couple years AND Hurts actually ends up being really good.

Or just a potentially good starter. An improved secondary, a pass rusher that all indirectly helps Wentz because it helps the team.

can be a really good QB for the Eagles.

We already have one of those and he is only 27.

Understood, but you don’t need that trickeration when you have one of the top QBs in the league....along with the best TE duo, Djax, all the new speed at WR, Sanders, etc.

I’m done racking my brain thinking about this pick. I’ll let the season play out.  Best of luck to Wentz and to Hurts.

Not necessarily...it does bring in another level of "how the hell do we defend this offense"

I have a lot of respect for McCown, especially after watching the end of All or Nothing. I imagine he brought a mentoring aspect to Wentz in the qb room that will help Wentz for years.

That said, if Hurts was the backup after Carson was concussed... I think he beats Seattle in the first round last season with his mobility.

The LBs are: Jatavis Brown, TJ Edwards, Nathan Gerry, Duke Riley, ,Alex Singleton

Seeing those names should be enough to skip Hurts in the second and upgrade the defense. On any other team, those guys would be special teams players not starting LBs.

Since I was, and am, so frustrated with this pick, I've decided to delude myself into thinking that this is a piece of another move that is yet to come.  Since all the reasons the eagles came up with seem like conference room bullsh--,  the real reason he was drafted in the 2nd round has yet to be disclosed.

So with so much bullsh-- being thrown around, let's here some bullsh-- trades....here's mine:

Hurts, Rasul Douglas, Andre Dillard and next year's 3rd to Jacksonville for Yannick Whoseyourmama.......Eagles sign Peters for an additional year to play LT and to mentor the 3 young tackles.  Eagles sign Flacco to back up Wentz. I have no idea how this effects the salary cap, and I don't give a sh--, since I'm deluding myself anyway.

Someone really needs to explain why those who really like this pick are so convinced Hurts will be a good back up in 2020. He's a second round pick (third round grade according to most draft analysts). He's coming in to this season with very likely a shortened messed up TC. Most rookies need more time to settle and yet people seem to think he's going to be this good back up in year one.

Because Russell Wilson was a third round pick?

I say let's see how it plays out.

If it blows chunks, we'll have a new GM anyway.

Trying to think of all the side benefits they are thinking about:

High end backup QB

       -for cheap

Possible Ultra-Gadget player

Confidence in getting 1st + 2nd Round pick value in investment

Gives Wentz a few off-downs per game

What else?

I agree. Not the pick I would have made, but he will be a cheap QB for the next several years, which will hopefully help with our cap space. It’s also a good back up in case Wentz goes down again. Hopefully we don’t need him.
