The price is high. Last year, the Jets signed him for $1.5m. Does he really deserve a raise?

This is from Jimmy Kempski’s article:

There were certainly teams around the league that got better deals done with other backup quarterbacks. For example:

  1. The Bills signed 26-year old Mitchell Trubisky for $2.5 million.
  2. For a little extra money (but no incentives), Jacoby Brissett signed with the Dolphins for $5 million.
  3. A Flacco-equivalent player in Mike Glennon signed with the Giants for 1.35 million.

You citing Kempski's garbage lose all credibility comparing Trubisky and Glennon to Flacco. Trubisky is a young guy and a reclamation project, not a veteran with high level experience to play behind a young guy in Hurts. Bringing him in does nothing to strengthen the QB room and help Hurts development. Glennon is horrendous, always has been. Also, Flacco got a raise because he had to take whatever offer was left last year in June since he couldn't even pass a physical this time last year and wasn't given any offers as a result. He showed he was healthy and played well last season, and the 49'ers also had him in for a visit, thus he gets a raise.

Yeah, I don't see how Mike Glennon can be viewed in any way as a Flacco equivalent. I guess they're both tall, so maybe that's supposed to be it.

It happened way before Foles did what he did.

It certainly did.
It always does.
Vick was McNabb’s backup at one point.

I guess you didn’t see Flacco play last year.

If anything I would take Trubisky over Flacco.  Flacco is not like Andy Dalton.  Dalton's skills haven't really diminished, the Bengals were simply fed up with his averageness and had a chance to get somebody better.  Flacco's skills have diminished.  With Eli retired Flacco is now the league least mobile Qb, his big arm is a less big and it's not like he was ever a chessmaster on the gridiron.  Trubisky is a young guy with excellent physical tools who is still young enough to grow and can scramble his way to a couple scoring drives in a pinch.

This place is going to be hilarious if Flacco beats Hurts in camp

It doesn't sound like Jeffrey is going to let that happen. He probably wouldn't anyway.

maybe Joe was going to retire and maybe they had to sweeten the pot (salary) to get him to sign

maybe their were other suitors...who knows

What does Trubisky add to the QB room. What does Trubisky do to help Hurts with his development. Next.....

I don't like Flacco but I will wait to see how the QB depth looks after the draft.  I don't think it even makes sense with him as a #3 but I am not a QB factory expert like Lurie and Roseman are.

Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black. You judge a QB on their rating. What a joke.

Try watching Flacco play. If you did you would realize he sucks now. He was worse than Darnold who was also terrible.

BTW, Trubisky had a 94 QB rating last year so I guess he’s better than Flacco by your own criteria.

We could have kept Nate Sudfeld for much less.

I don’t know. What did Tannehill bring to the room when Tennessee signed him. What did Mariota bring to the Raiders when they signed him. These guys were high picks in the draft. Sometimes they just need a change of scenery and some better/different coaching.

Trubisky has shown a lot of flashes. He’s young and talented. Sure he makes some boneheaded plays but his upside is a million times that of Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco has no upside. If you see that take your blinders off.

Unless Hurts can get us to the playoffs and gets hurt. Flacco become superman in the post season, defeating Brady multiple times.

Then there was the situation in Denver when he was asked if he was going to help to develop Drew Lock.  He said, correctly, that he hoped Lock developed as a player but his (Flacco's) job was to learn the system and win games.  That was twisted into "Flacco won't help Lock" and became a thing, when it wasn't really much of one.

Here's the exact quote:

"I got so many things to worry about," Flacco told reporters Monday, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "I'm trying to go out there and play good football. ... I'm not worried about developing guys or any of that. That is what it is. I hope he does develop. I don't look at that as my job. My job is to go win football games for this football team."

Here we go again ...

These comments don't really bother me. Unless the FO told him that they want him here to mentor Hurts, then his first job is to get acclimated with the system and be prepared to help this team on the field.

Sudfeld has played in the NFL.  You...not.

Sudfeld sucks and so would I. Also neither one of us have much to offer in the quarterback room. Point is it's not about who's cheaper.

I would rather have seen them try to get Foles.

Why this instead of just bringing back Foles?

Yes because that's what this circus needs.

Yeah but if you read the article that's not really what he said;  in fact, he didn't say much of anything: "I'm here to play football, we'll make each other better, blah blah blah" - the usual canned response you'd expect from a guy with decades of experience talking to the media.  He knows his role or he wouldn't be here.

The PFT headline was misleading. Imagine that.

Why?  His 2021 cap hit is $10.7 million vs. Flacco's $1.56 and Flacco is a better, more experienced quarterback.

So much for the great mentor. Here to play is he? Pff. Bull.
