The best news would be the only time you see Flacco would be in blowout victories. With that being the case I’d rather spend 3.5 on a backup quarterback than use a 2nd on a backup quarterback. Hurts selection alone forced them to try and justify it by using him all season on those stupid wildcat plays. They did nothing for Hurts, Wentz, or the offense as a whole. If Hurts was just an insurance policy he should have never even entered games. Just should have been groomed.

He could pass a medical this year at this time. He couldn't last year. I don't know when he was medically cleared last year.

What's he done in the last 12 months to show he should now get more? It is ridiculous. There's really no case for this at all.
March 28, 20214 yr I'm totally okay with Flacco but then I haven't seen him play since the Ravens were competitive with him. The FB comments are hilarious. I'm optimistic that he's recovered but part of me thinks he'll get beat up behind that line.
March 29, 20214 yr I have no issue with Flacco as a backup quarterback. The only issue I have is the dead money for 4 years after his one year contract is over. That's on Howie of course for boning the cap situation so bad.

The cap is as flexible as owners need it to be as we are seeing this offseason. It's an accounting tool that was designed to be manipulated. The Eagles won't have any cap concerns going forward in 2022 and beyond.

I understand what you're saying but the point is Howie's constant can kicking lowers the amount they can spend compared to other teams, period.

Yep. Howie is a bad GM there's no getting around that. Bad in the draft and he's not the cap wizard we all thought. He manipulates the cap but eventually it'll catch up to us.
March 29, 20214 yr Flacco is a good veteran piece to Hurts. Don’t expect Foles Magic to come out of Flacco if Hurts goes down but if he does get hurt , no pun intended Flacco has that experience which should help.

I don't even know what people are trying to say with this nonsense. Actually they didn't even have to get rid of anyone of any significance
April 3, 20214 yr My guess is that Flacco was signed in part because of his familiarity with the Ravens offense and the success it has had with Lamarr Jackson. It could be that Flacco could be helpful in assisting the new coaching staff to some degree with its install of the new offense.

Greg Roman came to the Ravens in 2019 when Flacco was on the Broncos and Lamar Jackson took off. Marty mortenweig was the Offensive coordinator when Flacco was last there who the Eagles just let go of.

Why would Flacco sign for a team that can help run an offense like that of the Ravens with Jackson? That doesn't fit his style at all and I'm not sure he's ready to just be a sideline coach yet.

If we are looking for some Flacco Magic then it probably means one of two things. Either a hurts fizzled out of Hurts got injured and neither of those options are good things. Can we get a quarterback actually able to stay healthy for once?

Even if Hurts struggles I hope we don’t bench him for Flacco. That does nothing.

I know here in Philly we have this obsession with the backup quarterbacks after all Foles accomplished so much that it makes sense, but really that isn’t supposed to be the norm. Contrary to what has happened since 2017 backup quarterbacks shouldn’t play nearly as much as they have for a football team. The fact our back up quarterbacks have played this much (especially in key moments of a football season) just shows our real issues were with the starter. If Flacco is playing that means Hurts is the problem. We shouldn’t even have to think about Flacco at all.

I don't care who the back up QB is I just care that they've invested decent money in the position. I mean this team is not going to contend next year even with the starter. If Flacco has to come in then it doesn't matter. This team is bad before and will be bad after if he has to start.
