Correct me if I am wrong but if your rebuilding a team and your QB is in place you would think you start with basics. Every play starts with the offensive line. Bad offensive line means you can't run or pass. If this statement is true why would you draft a skilled player in the first round? You can have all the skilled players and with a bad offensive line you would complain why they can't run the ball and why can't the receivers get open. Last year did not have a great crop of offensive lineman. This year has one of the best crop of offensive lineman. Most people don't realize that the top offensive lineman salary is $16 million a year. This is around the same salary for skilled positions. Why wouldn't you draft in the 1st round a top rated offensive lineman?

That's usually true, but at the same time you have to weigh what the team already has. When healthy, the Oline is probably the strongest unit on the team while WR and CB are two of the weaker units in terms of talent and depth. LB is obviously the weakest, but that's a philosophical issue. Quality skill positions are generally harder to find later in the drafts and this draft has high quality players at WR and CB. So best players available and fits a need for the team makes it a lot of sense to draft WR or CB. Sewell would be a great value pick because of the talent, but Slater has the shortest arms in the OT class and VT looks to be an NFL guard. So while there are good OL talent, it looks like, other than Sewell, is the value vs. need at 12 there. If you take one of the non-Sewell players, they would have to beat out Dillard/Mailata or Seumalo for a spot. If not, you're expecting the 12th pick in the draft to sit on the bench waiting for age or injury to catch up to one of the starters. A WR or CB would start and contribute immediately as the team does not have any solid starters (other than Slay.)

The O-line hasn't been healthy since 2017. It needs to be upgraded in the draft. CB is probably a bigger need than WR. Eagles may have a shot at a top CB or the 2nd best, but at WR they have a shot at the 3rd or 4th guy. So I'd Probably go CB.

As I’m watching the Mock drafts a lot of them still have the Eagles taking guys who were being talked about at 6. I’d rather they go defense.

Defense should definitely be our first pick.

The defense can be thought of as 3 units, DL, LBs, and Secondary.

I think we should aim to have one of those units to be dominate and the obvious choice is DL.

Christian Barmore would give us a dominate DL that would aid the LBs and Secondary because you'd have two players (Cox and Barmore) more often than not taking 4 offensive linemen to block them due to double teaming.

The last thing the Eagles want is to have Hurts playing catchup, aka paying hero ball, because we're giving up scores on damn near every possession.

I am just not feeling Barmore at 12. Think about it this way... If he comes here he will be working in a rotational role with our other two guys. Whereas a corner will be starting day one, making impact day one, and filling a position where we really dont have much.

You could argue, well we need to think about Cox's replacement... The same can be said at corner, what about replacing Slay? I hope we at least double dip at DB during our 7 rounds.

and with # 12....oh wait a minute Howie has traded down. The # 12 and one of next years # 1's for........9  7th rounders......

also since I am venting...where are all the Wentz enablers who said he has so much more upside compared to Dak. well Dak is back and Carson is gone!

BTW I do hope Wentz has a phenomenal year so we can see the eagles draft another flop 1st rounder......10 years to Glory

I would be okay with trading down again if we got the right DL pick.

Believe me when I tell you, Barmore will be starting day one also and I don't care what corner you get he's gonna get toasted just like any other corner if the QB has all day to throw, Barmore won't be allowing all day to throw.  With two DLmen being doubled that will open up opportunities for other DLmen, LBs, and blitzing corners.

Get your corner in round 2.

I agree.

Offenses have shifted to short quick passes with multiple WRs and a lot of motion (everyone except Doug's offense last year at least) which is why teams only play base coverage 30-40% of the plays. That means they will need at least 3-4 quality corners that can cover. Right now they have Slay. That's about it. Maddox maybe if you put him in the slot. The team definitely needs at least two more corner and one of those has to be good enough to start and cover opposite Slay. Gannon will play a lot of zone, but its not pure zone and the CBs still have to play man once in a while, so getting that lock down CB2 that can transition to CB1 after Slay leaves is critical. That type of lock down guy is first round material.
