More unhinged Christian hate from Toaster.  Shocking

Have you come to grips with Prohibition yet, after 91 years?  Or are you still crying into your pillow at night, over it?

People can change the laws of a bygone era, if they want.

some areas are dry for reasons other than religion. ocean city nj for instance. they just dont want the inevitable piss poor behavior that will kill their tourism revenue.

of course, you need only to cross into somers point to get your drink of choice.

Actually, it was in fact for religious reasons OCNJ was dry when it was founded and still is to this day.

Now that I've lived down here for 3 summers, I love that Ocean City beach is dry. I can go anywhere to drink, it's a much better environment for "family time" with the boardwalk being dry.

The difference in people between here and Seaside is night and day.

i agree, even though i usually only go to point pleasant or belmar, of any of the south jersey beach towns, ocnj is the one i go to.

I believe the newspapers here said it was voted the best beach in NJ.

Point Pleasant is/was nice(been a while since I've been there).  I rented a place two blocks from the beach on Arnold Ave when I was younger, we had fun.

Mother arrested after mixing drink that sent child’s bully to hospital, sheriff says

Woman charged with injury to a child resulting in bodily injury-reckless by omission, Bexar County Sheriff says

https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2024/03/06/woman-arrested-after-concocting-drink-that-sent-child-to-the-hospital-bcso-says/

Rossi admitted to making the mixture due to her son... stating the child stole his drink and was bullying him,” the affidavit reads.

According to the affidavit, Rossi said she is a nurse and the drink was nontoxic.

Replaced the liquid in an energy drink with lemon juice, salt, vinegar and Gatorade. Texas nurse mom for the win. That is how you stop a bully, and get arrested. Now your kid can have no mom for a while.

Add Ohio.

An Ohio toddler died after her mom left her alone as she took a 10-day vacation. Judge: it was the ‘ultimate act of betrayal’ | CNN

The worst part is the family wants mercy on the child's mother; even though they did NOTHING to stop this.  They know she is mentally challenged yet never once tried to contact her for the entire incident.   They should have been talking with her EVERYDAY and when the contact stopped, they should have called for a welfare check.   I also blame all those people who must have heard the baby crying for DAYS, and did nothing.

SB 2691 passed in the Senate on Monday, according to The Tennessean. It has not yet advanced in the house.

The chemtrail conspiracy theory claims that commercial aircraft spray chemicals into the atmosphere for malign purposes.

WTF?

Seriously?

I think OCNJ being dry actually hurts them.  I think they need to make a compromise on one area here.  It’s one thing to want to be the "family” shore town and to not have bars.   That’s fine and with the boardwalk they have will certainly attract a market demographic that nearby sea isle and Avalon won’t hit.

But, to not allow restaurants to be BYOB or to at least serve beer/wine is a mistake and actually hurts their ability to attract families and hurts their restaurant business. Young single adults aren’t going to a nice restaurant to get plastered. So it’s not like allowing that would somehow translate to a young drunk party atmosphere they are trying to keep out.  It’s families going to a nice restaurant who want to open a bottle of wine while they enjoy a nice meal.

i hear what you're saying and i'd like to see if the town is in the red or black, because every time i am down there its packed to the gills and parking is damn there impossible to find if you get there after 11am. that said, it doesn't automatically mean their regulations are profitable.

There are spots now in OC that do allow BYOB, but they are membership driven.  One such spot is Dockside Kitchen.  They have a limited number of memberships every year.  We had a membership for two years.  It was great!  Good food and BYOB right on the bay.

Oh OC is certainly super popular and always packed.  I just think their restaurant industry gets hurt by not being allowed to sell beer/wine and not being allowed to be BYOB.

Well that’s a start at least.  Would be nice to see that extended to all restaurants and not just to membership ones.

That was one of the attractions of OC, going to the shore with the family. The drunken teens & college kids I can do without. I liked it being a dry town. It did not bother me at all, but I was with the wife and kids.

I hope it never changes.

Arkansas led the nation sending letters home from school about obesity. Did it help?

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/04/09/1243575348/arkansas-led-the-nation-sending-letters-home-from-school-about-obesity-did-it-he

Quote

In 2003, Arkansas became the first state to send home BMI reports about all students as part of a broader anti-obesity initiative. But in the 20 years since, the state's childhood obesity rates have risen to nearly 24% from 21%, reflecting a similar, albeit higher, trajectory than national rates. During the pandemic, the state obesity rate hit a high of more than 26%.

So, no.

Maybe they thought higher numbers were better so they tried to set the high score.

Tennessee legislature debates first cousin marriage

Bulso admits his grandparents were first cousins

Quote

Earlier this month, Bulso said during a House session that he would "with a little bit of sadness" support the first cousins marriage ban. He then recalled, unprompted, the story of his first cousin grandparents marrying each other after moving to Tennessee.

"My grandparents came over to this country through Ellis Island in Italy back in the 1920s," Bulso said. "And they were first cousins... So, back in 1924, they actually came down to Tennessee to get married... But for the existence of the current law, I would not be here."
