Trey Burton

Recommended Posts

I'd rather bring back Rodgers who can also block. Burton was fine here as the 3rd TE behind Ertz and Celek in Doug's offense, with Reich here and Wentz here (always looking to the TEs more than he should). With our new coaching staff and a QB room with no familiarity with Burton, what's the appeal?

The appeal is that he was a really good second TE. We only let him go because he got payed to be the guy at TE, and he never lived up to that. But as the number two if the price is right? I think he would be worth a shot.

Burton spent the last year with the Colts. He is familiar. We need an experienced second TE opposite Dallas for 2 TE sets.

Many reasons?   Give me one good one.

If you do not have great receiver threat...you need good TEs. They can create separation through their size. A QBs best friend is a good TE. Burton is familiar with the Colts offense , good guy, and will fit right in.

If his groin is healed, then he could be a great #2 with a team in a city that loves him.

Howie should check-out his groin - I think that’s the GM’s job.

Trey will have to wait until he is done checking out Jeffrey's

Under Doug, and this is JMHO, we fell in love with 12 personnel and tried to milk all we could out of it to our own detriment. We failed repeatedly to get our WRs involved properly. I think it's a good package to have in your offense, but it should never be the desired look. Honestly, it's more useful to use on running plays because you should benefit from adding a more effective blocker --- that's assuming your extra TE can block reasonably well. When you fall in love with passing out of this, well ... you saw what happens. Teams expect it and the TEs are less efficient as pass catchers.

We need to start throwing to WRs again. We don't need our 3 most targeted receivers to be TEs. I do like Trey Burton as a TE3. In games where Ertz was hurt, Burton stepped in and did a nice job. But we don't need to sign him as much as we need to get our current WRs like Reagor and Fulgham involved and established as threats that must be accounted for.

edit for clarification:  I may have worded my previous post poorly --- I meant neither Hurts nor Flacco (the QB room) have any familiarity with Burton --- so it's not like we'd be rekindling an old connection.

Don't you think.we should get rid of Ertz before thinking about a back up tight end? You guys wonder why this team sucks becaiset like the front office you can't let go of guys that were on a super bowl team 5 years ago that weren't even that good then

I have no problem with 12 Personnel. If we do not have elite receivers, then TEs can create separation. It is a friendly to QB tool to have. If Ertz is staying here for 1 more year, we will not need Trey.
