In the end, I dont like this guy at all. BUT for swapping 6th the only loss is the cap space for a player who may or may not have any impact on the team.

When healthy he's a good player. He's a good depth piece for us with proven NFL experience and production. But staying healthy is a problem for him.

I only see one year out of 7 with production though. One year 900 yards, rest avg 250 healthy or not. But he cost nothing so wont hurt if he is nothing.

Exactly and there's talent and speed there. For what we gave up I like it.

ZERO risk, HIGH reward. Not a lock to make the roster but he could potentially be an impact player.

If that's all we gave up, then so be it.

Thats where I am at

I would think they can release him without issue as well as far as the cap goes.

You all forget one thing....

If he plays out the season and then someone picks him up.....

Basically got him for no compensation, let's see how it works.

Interesting... Though probably makes it even more likely he doesn't make the roster. I think this is both parties accepting he's in a real battle to make it. Let the competition commence.

Jackson, Raegor, Ward, JJAW will more than likely be on the team, although only the first two can be considered locks

Then you have AJ (might get cut/traded, especially now), Hightwower, Watkins and Goodwin competing for 2 spots. There is real competition and Hightower, Watkins and Goodwin all offer deep speed. Goodwin is here to push the young guys - competition is good

Hold up.... details.  Did Howie convert salary into bonus?  What I liked about this is we could kick the tires in TC and if he doesnt work out\gets injured, we could cut him with no dead cap hit.

Year Age Base Salary Per Game Roster Bonus Workout Bonus   Cap
Number
Cap %
Dead Money & Cap Savings
Cut (pre-June 1)Cut (post-June 1)Trade (pre-June 1)Trade (post-June 1)RestructureExtension
2020 30 $3,950,000 $500,000 $50,000   $4,281,250 2.2%
$0
$4,281,250
2021 31 $6,450,000 $500,000 $50,000   $7,000,000 3.3%
$0
$7,000,000

So now, if he convereted it to bonus, which is very likely, we are now locked into him.

Great move. In 2018 Mike Wallace went down in Week 2 and took any explosive element of our offense with him.

2019 Howie makes the same mistake and signs DJax with no backup plan who goes down in week 2 and takes the offense with him.

2020 Howie finally learned and is overloading in redundancy at the speed WR position. If DJax goes down or Reagor is slow to develop, Goodwin gives us a viable backup option.

Agree with that yeah! Finally we have some resilience in terms of speed. I do like the pick up of Goodwin though even though it comes with concerns.

Howie- what happened to you big 3 questions about players for this year? Healthy? This guy NEVER is healthy. Cheers.

Fair point but they didn't draft him... 😁

Have they officially changed his contract? Or is there some time element to signing a new deal?

I saw reports, but nothing official. For $4million  a year he isn't worth it, but at 1. Sure.

He played in 11 games in 2018 and just 9 in 2019 before he landed on IR thanks a chronic knee injury.

Its not like he really cost us anything though.

Never said they drafted him, gimme a break, of course they didn't draft him. Howie went and got him- and injury prone player who is always hurt. Telling it like it is. I

It was a joke. Calm down.

No biggie. I just was in a bad mood over how Howie messed up an important draft. I didn't really think he would blow it this time, and then he does, and in a strange fashion, like he is in the twilight zone or something. Nothing person towards you at all.

They swapped 6th round picks, so essentially got him for nothing.
