New WNBA ad campaign

Recommended Posts

So the WNBA has a new ad campaign, it's "your" fault that it sucks and no one watches it.  For real, that's the message.  Sports Illustrated has bought in

And if you watched any NBA playoff games this weekend, you saw the Nike ad saying the same thing.  Nothing's worked to get people to watch so far, so why not try smug insults?

Its not a great product. There are no stars. Its not marketed well and probably can't be. I used to take my daughter to women's basketball games at the college level which was fun. Maybe if Philly had a team I would, but watching random WNBA games on tv is not even remotely interesting.

Sabrina Ionescu is a star.

The best player in the WNBA.  C’mon man.

And I've quite literally never heard of her, which speaks to the point of it being a horrible product.

They couldn't even get people to watch when they paired WNBA stars with NBA stars at the NBA All-Star Weekend for things like the three-point contest or whatever.

Ultimately, it is up to the WNBA to get people to watch by having a better product.  Is Major League Soccer going to run around and tell people why they should be watching soccer?  Is the NHL going to tell people in the Sun Belt why they should watch more hockey?

MLS adds expansion teams almost every year though.  They have almost 30 teams now.

They actually have 27, with 3 more on the way in the next year or two.

But the point is, if MLS wants viewership on par with the NFL or NBA, does it argue with people, or does it put out a better product?  It would seem, given they have 30 teams on the table, that they have been working on the product.

The best chance they’ll have to get people to start watching, is when the trans d00des take over the league in a few years.

Wait for Lebron to start being called Lebrona and dunk on beeches.

And even as a star she is boring to watch

their game is slow and unremarkable. Which is why it fails as entertainment.
