Two Towers is a pretty epic battle movie

Actually I own the Blu Ray theatrical version and, it turns out that I’ve never actually watched the extended version. Anyway, watched the theatrical first, then the extended to see what they’ve added. For starters, it’s one of my favorite movies ever. So many little moments are just perfectly done, Gandolf bowing up on Bilbo, Gandolf’s face when Frodo agrees to take the ring, Gimli announcing that nobody tosses a dwarf, just memorable moments all throughout. The extended version does add some helpful context to a couple of scenes but, mostly, I understand why he left those parts out. I watched the extended cut of all 3 way back when. Thats all I got.

The first was world building, setting up the story and characters. The 3rd one is epic. When I originally watched them in theaters, I didn't like the 2nd one as much for some reason. I think it was because all the fellowship was split apart doing separate stories. I didn't like Sam and Frodo's stories in part 2, I felt like it was filler whereas their story I liked more in the 3rd movie. I also didn't like the other 2 hobbits in part 2 as much. The best stuff I liked was with the non-hobbit characters. I also didn't appreciate all the moving parts. A friend who was really into LOTR and read the books bought the extended edition blu rays and watching them helped expand the world. I start to appreciate the details and story within the story, like Rohan. Now it's a trilogy that I rewatch at least every other year. I just did it at Christmastime and I want to watch them again soon. My son hasn't seen them yet and I'm working through his film education, we'll get there eventually. I think I appreciate them more upon rewatch.

March 22Mar 22 LOTR is amazing. The Hobbit was ok. Is Rings of Power show on Amazon Prime worth watching?

I found the first ep to be bad, the first half of ep 2 was also bad and then it takes off and I enjoyed the rest of the season. If you can get through the initial slog it's worth watching
March 24Mar 24 Author I have probably seen each of the theatrical LOTR films a minimum of 3-4 times. Fellowship might be around 10 if you count times that's been on cable broadcast and its made its way onto the TV or I was already on the channel and it stayed there. I have watched all the Extended at least once "at home" and then pre-COVID during a Memorial Day or Labor Day weekend Regal ran the Extended in the RPX (IMAX-similar) theater for like $5 each that might have included a popcorn and drink combo (or it was $5 extra for large popcorn and large drink), so I went and watched all 3 on 3 separate days, no phone and no distractions. Even with all of the above, I could maybe recall and describe 30% of what happens across the films, and while I know things like "Battle of Helms Deep", I couldn't tell you which battle is which or what movie different battles are in. The only battles I remember are the caves of Moria in the first film where they fight like a bit Troll or something -- and that it was an abandoned Dwarf mine because Gimli or whatever his name is has a hard on for it. I remember a night time battle where Legolis and Gimli are trying to keep track of how many kills they have and the dwarf has Viggo throw him over the gap to protect the main gate and says "don't tell the Elf!". I feel like I have seen this a ton which would make me thing 1st movie, but I also don't feel like there was any big battles in the first film? And then I recall a battle where Gandolf shows up to blind everyone with the sun and I think that's also where the OP'd ghost army comes and wipes everyone out? Pretty certain those are in the final film because Gandolf spends a lot of the 2nd film coming back from a pit, getting captured by his mentor, then defeating his mentor to become a white wizard and make friends with the trees.

Two under the radar movies that come to mind 25th hour Warrior (2011)
