It also reminds me of Interstellar. I guess I don't understand how in these type of movies there's only ONE person who has the knowledge and skills. Like he's a teacher, but there are no other science experts in the world? There isn't a team going up with trained astronauts and various science experts as backups in case something goes wrong, someone gets sick or dies? I did see comments online saying the book is great and excited for this movie. So hopefully it's well written and well made.
July 2Jul 2 Meanwhile, a remake of the Stephen King novel (which people are saying looks more faithful to the novel). And directed by Edgar Wright.
July 3Jul 3 Wasn't a fan of the new Jurassic movieSpoilerIt at least had comedy because the story was crap. I was surprised the T-Rex didn't fight the mutated dinosaur in the endThere was a few scenes that were putting me to sleep too
July 3Jul 3 Jurassic World: Afterbirth - Probably not good, but it offers enough really exciting moments to make it not a total waste. It's just tough to take a movie seriously when one of the main characters switches from a broken leg to running on the broken leg over, and over throughout the movie. If the injury is that difficult to maintain throughout the movie then just cut it out of the story altogether. It really had no bearing on the movie in the first place. And the final boss dinosaur just looked dumb.
July 3Jul 3 We're seeing the new Jurassic tomorrow. So far I've heard that it attempts to have recalls to the original, they brought back the co-writer David Koepp, but that they fall flat. A friend of mine when he saw the trailer said they should just go the route of Fast & Furious at this point, just make it a visual spectacle. Most of the sequels have been bad, Jurassic World at least progressed to having an actual park open for business as a new direction.
July 4Jul 4 Jurassic World Rebirth was ok. Without putting too much thought into it I’d say it’s the 3rd best in the franchise behind the OG and the first Jurassic World. I wasn’t a fan of the new mutated species though. They went too far where it almost felt like it was an alien.

They kept the weird side plots of locusts eating crops/clone children to a minimum. With that said, I don’t think it’s anything amazing or even memorable really. I think making this movie as a one off, heist like movie helped a ton overall as they didn’t try to shoehorn in anything dumb leading to a sequel or trilogy.

I think making this movie as a one off, heist like movie helped a ton overall as they didn’t try to shoehorn in anything dumb leading to a sequel or trilogy.I went in with low expectations, and in some ways it was better than I expected. IMO most of the sequels were loaded with a lot of "that was dumb" writing, plot points and character decisions. This one had those, but it didn't seem like as many (the bar was set very low in the other recent sequels).I saw some people say it's a re-hash of the original JP plot but it's not really. It felt more like a mash up of King Kong, Godzilla, Jaws and Jurassic Park/World. There really wasn't a good reason to make this movie, it didn't have anything really important to bring. At least the JW trilogy tried to take the franchise in a new direction with a functioning park and then dinos spreading all over the world. They fumbled the last 2 sequels to that. This one had more character screen time and less dinos, and had a lot of visual references to the earlier movies plus other movies. Hunting a Mosasaurus had a lot of references to Jaws for example. I was waiting for someone to say "we're gonna need a bigger boat." They put a family with 2 teens and a young girl in there for some reason, they always need to have kids and a family angle (and they're always children of divorce). They were just fluff and not needed. Once you accept the premise that a rich guy is bankrolling an extract team to go to restricted dino island to get dino stuff and you're gonna see dino action, that's really all you need. There were call backs to the original Predator movie, and that's what this should have been. Man vs beast. That's all we needed.I did like that there were shots that slowed down and enjoyed the awe of dinosaurs. There was a scene that was a reference to the first time they see the brachiosaurs in the first JP where they are just sitting back and taking in the view of these giant beasts. There were some really dumb things, bad lines and coincidences, and plot armor but that stuff is to be expected and I think they kept it to a minimum compared to the other sequels. This should have been like Predator or Aliens: go in with a team for a horror/sci-fi mission movie and the creatures pick of the humans little by little until a small group survives to get out of there. As you said, it felt like a standalone story. I don't know the point of making any more of these unless it makes good money and they think they can make more.
July 8Jul 8 I like the idea of Dinosaur movies still. Just wish the stories were betterMaybe there needs to be an adult version so it doesn't need to be so family friendly 🤷♂️

There are people in previous movies who bought dinos on the black market and all that. they could still do another movie like that. The island that had the original park and the Jurassic World park could be a setting as well, an abandoned park horror setup. They could do a dino in the city horror like Cloverfield. Just do smaller scale contained stories that feature the dinos and less need for big corporate stories and global conspiracies.
July 9Jul 9 The Accountant 2 - Already streaming for free on Prime Video. One of the worst marketed movies ever. It’s not as good as the first, it’s a little weird actually, but it’s not terrible. In fact it’s got some really funny, and real kick ass parts in it. The pacing’s just kind of odd, and it lingers on some parts too long. They’ve gone a little overboard with the kids too, but it all still ultimately works.
July 9Jul 9 Nosferatu - Also streaming free on Prime Video. Unnerving but was it supposed to be scary? Because I didn't think it was scary at all. That's not to say I didn't think it was very good, because it was. Did a great job with Orlack.

Jon Bernthal stole every scene he was in, and the 2 brothers road tripping and getting into a bar fight and all that was fun. It made you forget for a moment what the movie was about. They had a good shoot em up action scene at the end. But it was a pretty forgettable movie.

July 27Jul 27 Death of a Unicorn - Currently streaming on Max, billed as a "dark comedy”. The only problem is it’s not very funny. At all. It’s not terrible, it has its moments but a few more laughs would have helped.
