Posted June 7, 20214 yr Who else among us is dealing with these red eyed, flying, screaming spawns of Satan? They are EVERYWHERE in my area. Luckily they don't bite. Was at a cookout at my Dad's over the weekend - he has thousands of them. Actually caught a few and took off the wings and legs and threw them on the grill for a minute or two. They taste like popcorn.

June 7, 20214 yr i've only seen a few of them so far...but my house is surrounded by trees so i'm expecting a full-on invasion soon.

The west coast doesn't have periodical cicadas - they are mostly east coast and a little into the midwest and south. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periodical_cicadas This year is the largest brood - Brood X https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brood_X
June 7, 20214 yr No, cicadas won't bite you. But they will pee on you: So if they're about to emerge in your neighborhood, you have that to look forward to.

June 7, 20214 yr They are not here yet in Delaware. Yet. I did though have like 500 gnats swarming me on Sunday morning when I was on my back deck. Thankfully they only hung out for like 20 minutes or so, and then just completely dissapeared.
June 7, 20214 yr They’ve been here in the DC area for close to a month now. Annoying as sh**. Sounds like a distant car alarm is sounding, permanently. They’re also just a disgusting mess everywhere. We had some moron in the local gov try to bring up the possibility of an ordinance for people to be responsible to keep them quiet. Seriously — some lady thought everyone could control the noise of a billion bugs on their own property.
June 7, 20214 yr Driving up 476 this weekend between Lansdale and Quakertown exits - windows up, A/C on, cruising at 75MPH and we could still hear them clearly inside the car. I pray these things don't pop up around my house...
