Who else among us is dealing with these red eyed, flying, screaming spawns of Satan?  They are EVERYWHERE in my area.  Luckily they don't bite.  Was at a cookout at my Dad's over the weekend - he has thousands of them.  Actually caught a few and took off the wings and legs and threw them on the grill for a minute or two.  They taste like popcorn.

OK. They'll probably be here in a week or so.

Yeah - they started hatching here about 3 weeks ago.  Really started hearing them on Memorial Day, and now it's everywhere you go where there's lots of trees.  Fascinating creatures, really.

i've only seen a few of them so far...but my house is surrounded by trees so i'm expecting a full-on invasion soon. <_<

Yeah, we definitely do not have swarm situations like that here in Washington state, maybe it is because of all the assassinating I do.

The west coast doesn't have periodical cicadas - they are mostly east coast and a little into the midwest and south.

This year is the largest brood - Brood X

No, cicadas won't bite you. But they will pee on you:

So if they're about to emerge in your neighborhood, you have that to look forward to.

Just wait until you get peed on by a cicada!

Spoiler

It's not actually urine... They drink tree sap, then expel the extra out of their bodies. It's like wet tree sap.

Well I figured, but I still thought it looked fake - none of them move, at all, the entire length of the video

They are not here yet in Delaware. Yet.

I did though have like 500 gnats swarming me on Sunday morning when I was on my back deck. Thankfully they only hung out for like 20 minutes or so, and then just completely dissapeared.

They’ve been here in the DC area for close to a month now. Annoying as sh**. Sounds like a distant car alarm is sounding, permanently. They’re also just a disgusting mess everywhere.

We had some moron in the local gov try to bring up the possibility of an ordinance for people to be responsible to keep them quiet. Seriously — some lady thought everyone could control the noise of a billion bugs on their own property.

Driving up 476 this weekend between Lansdale and Quakertown exits - windows up, A/C on, cruising at 75MPH and we could still hear them clearly inside the car.  I pray these things don't pop up around my house...

Yeah if you get surrounded by them it's very loud - up to and sometimes over 100 decibels

They're quiet at night though so sleeping is usually ok.
