I don't think you give up draft capital for Fournette. Plenty of similar, albeit mildly less sexy, options available in free agency.

You think? Someone with the upside? For a late round pick? I'd do that even for a year... I like Hyde too though.

I would give up a 4th for Fournette. They would likely want at least a 3rd but I doubt anyone gives that up.

a 4th for Fournette would be a steal. Maybe a conditional 4th that turns into a 3rd with X amount of TDs or yards

Fournette is going to want a new deal. We've done this before with Ajayi but it's a little different because he wouldn't come in and be the starter since we have Sanders. Don't want to give up anything for a backup/time split. Scott showed me enough he can be the backup, plus we have Clement, Holyfield and the UDFAs

Hyde for zero compensation (not even counting in comp pick formula now) is one of the less exciting but decent choices.

I swear I’m not picking on you, but this is nuts. They’d have traded him for a 4th during the draft if anyone offered. There’s simply no value there. His YPC is consistently piddling, and he’s got the injury history of an older back. I’d say he’s worth maybe a 5th if you really don’t want Sanders to be featured, but you/we/they do. Considering our salary inflexibility this season, Fournette just isn’t really a fit at all.

I don't agree at all. He had a very good season and is only 25. How is that worth nothing? I'd do a fourth without hesitation.

Lol I don't think you are picking on me. We just disagree which is fine.

Eagles gave up a 4th for Jay Ajayi (not saying they are the same player before you play this card). Fournette's cap hit is $4 million for this upcoming season. Even if it is a one year rental or let him walk and get a comp pick when he signs elsewhere. Sanders is the lead back but lets not pretend like the Eagles do not have RB by committee

Okey dokey. My thinking:

This is a passing league. Sanders is dynamic in the pass game and is the lead back. The Eagles have the best 1-2 punch at TE in the league and figure to be faster, if nothing else, at WR.
Wentz is no longer on the rookie contract. Alshon’s salary is guaranteed. Cap room is a bit tight. The Eagles would merely rent Fournette, unless you think they think Sanders is a complementary RB.

They do not think Sanders is a complementary RB. They invested pick 53 in him a year ago, and his usage increased at the end of the season. He’s the main guy.
The tradeoff in both draft pick and money from Fournette to... whomever the heck else you get... it’s just not worth going heavy with Fournette in the Eagles’ situation.

Then you do what you did with Ajayi and look for a deal for some fresh legs to get you over the hump mid-season. My opinion.
I like Fournette. If the Eagles get him, cool. I just don’t perceive it makes sense or think it likely.

Likeliness is definitely low. Just my opinion

I wouldn't call it less exciting necessarily. Who do you think are the more exciting choices?

Barry Sanders

I’d swap Douglas or Jeffery for him,  nothing more than that

Jags just turned down his 5th year option.

I honestly have no idea why the perception of him is so high, but his price just went modestly down because his acquiring team won’t be on the hook for 2021.

Well I mean... Because he's a pretty dam good player. OK not what was hoped when they drafted him but he's a good player.

Yes, I agree. Good. Like in the same range as these guys who had similar yards per carry last season.

Top 10 pick so of course everyone knows who he is and a must have.... I have no desire to have him on this team

Yeah OK but then look at ages too. And which of those are available?

Who cares how old a guy is unless you want him longer term?

Hyde for zero compensation > Fournette for anything significant. This is specific to the Eagles’ roster and offensive identity. I just don’t get the love for Fournette at all. He’s mostly just a name.

If they go FA... Hyde is the guy. Better receiver. Fits what we look for out of our backs.

I agree, fits what we look for.

But a bruiser like Fournette is what we really need.

To be fair I think Hyde can bring that too...

Indeed. I think people forget how big the dude is.

Not interested. I wouldn’t spend the draft capital to trade for a RB who will be in line for a fairly big contract. He is only 25 but has already taken a beating due to his running style. He’s one of those guys, like Zeke, who I expect to fall off dramatically by the time he’s 27/28.

That and he already has attitude problems. Imagine him being stuck in our rotation?

  • 3 weeks later...

Only one Jaguars player needed and he plays Defense
