I bought a new dishwasher last week, wanna log that too?

What's her name and how much did she cost? What else can she do?

Absolutely...water wall? Plastic or stainless tub? Did you spring for the new Bosch with the Zeolite drying system?

Sure.

Do you keep a log of all of WUs fridges?

Some guys keep logs of Ben Simmons  bad shots.

Besides, the appliances you buy say more about a person than you’d think.

You scoff, but the dude helped us fix our issue.  Almost a month in and zero problems.  We actually like our fridge now.

(on the one month mark I was going to send a PM)

Yeah, I didn't know he swung that way either

No, none of the fancy stuff. We're planning on leaving it here if we move in the next few years. It does have a 3rd rack though, I thought that was pretty cool. It's a stainless steel tub, I wasn't sure about getting plastic, that just doesn't seem right to me.

I saw that.

Ours apparently was unfixable even though its only like 5 years old. The one appliance repair store in hazleton doesn't service that model anymore.

Stainless > plastic tub. Some manufacturers these days are blaming energy regulations on the fact that their units aren’t getting dishes clean. If it’s getting things clean and it’s quiet, you’re probably going to be good for 8-10 years before any parts or major service will be needed.

Think I might be able to get more than 5 years out of my next fridge or did I buy another POS?

so the wife got some water bowl thing for our yard where the water pours from a small bowl into a larger bowl...then the larger bowl overflows back down into a large basin it sits on top of...then there's a pump in the basin that pumps the water back into the small bowl...using the same water over & over.  looks almost exactly like this  pic:

linds-interiors.jpg

of course, i was 100% against getting it because it looked like a pain in the arse to install....you have to dig a huge f'n hole to bury the basin....in the pic, it's covered with rocks...but it's there....in a hole that like 4'x4' and about 2' deep.....and because i knew it would be a f'n headache with dirt & sheet getting into the bain/pump & constant maintenance.

anyway....the future son in law did most of the digging & install...so that was huge...but the damn thing only worked properly for about 2 weeks before the pump slowed down & barely any water was pouring from the small bowl.  then it stopped completely.  so i spent saturday pumping all the water out of the system...and it's bigger than it looks in that pic....and trying to clean out the basin since the pump was surrounded by mud.  it worked great....for about an hour. <_< then the water flow slowed down again.  it''s been holding steady since, but only a matter of time before it shuts down again & i'm back to f'ing around with a f'ing bowl of water again.

in conclusion...don't get a water feature.

how many little blue pills do i need to get the water flowing again?

Cant you seal off that hole you dug with some hard mud like the ancient people built houses with? Or maybe a little layer of quick crete? Something to keep the dirt out?

it's a sheety design as the big f'n basin has to be buried...and will undoubtedly fill up with dirt/mud over time.  the same openings that allow the water back into the basin to be pumped also allow dirt to get in.

i'd need to drain everything, unhook the pump, & take that big-a** basin out of the ground to fix it properly. <_<

Those will only work for 4 hours.  If it works longer you should consult a professional.

Unless you got a lemon you should definitely get 5 years before anything major happens. Generally, you’re looking at 10 years for any model fridge these days (with some exceptions such as your SubZeros of the world). That’s when manufacturers start to discontinue parts and usually it’s the control boards that get discontinued first.

As far as LG refrigeration is concerned, parts aren’t any more or less expensive than Fridgidair, Maytag, Whirlpool, Samsung....but they are sometimes hard to get quickly due to back orders. The biggest LG refrigerator issue is, unfortunately, the most expensive - compressors/evaporators. Double check your sealed system warranty, it should be at least 5 years (maybe more).

The tl;dr: you should be good. Just make sure you have a warranty that covers the compressor (sealed system).

Cool. Thanks.

Im guessing the compressor/evaporator is whats wrong with my frigidaire. Fridge is losing cooling while freezer is icing up. We keep having to thaw a block of ice which fixes it only temporarily.

Cant believe 5-10 years is about it these days. I feel like my parents have had fridges forever. Even with a newer one sometimes theyve still kept old ones in the garage. Seemed good for 20+ years. Guess they dont make them like they used to.

I currently have a 23 year old Maytag in the garage. 🤣

More than likely it's just the fan that blows the cold air across the back to give your fridge cold air. it's a $20 dollar fix. It's usually the only thing that ever goes wrong with them in my experience.

Condenser fan motor (without blade) $60

Evaporator fan motor (without blade) $99

Thermistor $33

Compressor $556

Cold Control $81

Control Board $147

It could be any one of these things. And I don’t know of any fridge repair parts in the $20 range....maybe the posts that hold the handles on the door? Oh, and the lightbulb inside (unless it’s an LED board, then it’s over a hundred.)

I've only had 2 fridges lose cold and both times it was evap fan. Maybe I paid 50$ bucks one time. The point is it's a long way from a new refrigerator money wise. It takes all of about 5 minutes to change. I don't expect everyone to be able to do it but it's not hard with the help of a website like repairclinic.com

But saving money isn't for everyone. Buy a new appliance everytime it pops a $20 dollar part. Makes no never mind to me. But unless you're the maytag man I wouldn't expect you to know the price of every refrigerator part on the internet.

That’s a GE part. (and not even an OEM GE part - it’s a rebuild) He said he has a Fridgidaire. You’re fired. 🤣

I hear what you’re saying though. People definitely buy new because they have no idea how to repair themselves, or don’t want to throw a service call + job rate to have a service repair done. I recommend if the appliance is +10 years old, and the cost to repair is 60%of buying new with warranty, I’d buy new.

(you could probably supplement your income from just picking up dryers from the street, changing the thermal fuse, and selling it on letgo for $50)

could be the henway.

Our ice maker in our fridge was busted, so we just had someone come in to look at it.  Completely busted.  We have to order a new water valve, a brand new ice maker, and now pay for labor.  Over $600.

This fridge is only 18 months old (Whirlpool), and we bought this house 1 year ago.  Is this some bullsheet??

I miss the cartoons as a kid in the 1980's and early 1990's anybody agree with me there?!

Slow day around the house today. Been raining for days, so no outside work getting done 🙁.

Happy Sunday morning, coming down. 🍺
