Our ice maker in our fridge was busted, so we just had someone come in to look at it.  Completely busted.  We have to order a new water valve, a brand new ice maker, and now pay for labor.  Over $600.

This fridge is only 18 months old (Whirlpool), and we bought this house 1 year ago.  Is this some bullsheet??

The cost is in the labor. I’m sure there’s a Whirlpool kit that comes with the ICM, valve, waterlines, John Guest fittings, etc thats under $200.

PS: it’s strange that the ice maker AND valve both broke. It’s typically (about always) just one or the other.

Maybe that's why they moved.

Among other things, like trying not to electrocute myself, I took my first stab at taping drywall.   I hate doing drywall

I had to replace some dry wall in my bed room when the gutters backed up and leaked down the wall. I got a hard F. I'm not taping next time, I'm just using mud. The tape part doesn't make sense to me.

Mowed and weed whacked today, then helped the neighbor trim the arborvitaes between our houses. Then started drinking with him at 2pm. It's been a good Sunday

The corner tape with a birdie knife worked great.  Except it didnt fit where the door hinges ate, so i had to improvise.

The mesh tape on the other hand... frustrating as hell.

Yea I had mesh tape. I put it on the seems, mudded over it, sanded and saw the tape before it was smoothed. Must had repeated the process 10 times before I gave up. There's now a visible lump in the wall behind my bed that'll have to be re done when I eventually sell

I'm going to do a second and maybe 3rd coat before I think of sanding with this crap.

Had a small get together for a kindergarten "graduation" for my son.  Supposedly that's a thing these days.

Worst allergy day of the year for me so far.  Maybe the worst in line 3 years. So bad... hope tomorrow is better.

I took a day off. Been working 6 days a week with this covid stuff. Might go to reptiliand for something to do with the kids.

I hear that. I've been running ragged myself.  I requested 2 half days (Th & Fr) to try to sneak in some beach time.

so the wife got some water bowl thing for our yard where the water pours from a small bowl into a larger bowl...then the larger bowl overflows back down into a large basin it sits on top of...then there's a pump in the basin that pumps the water back into the small bowl...using the same water over & over.  looks almost exactly like this  pic:

linds-interiors.jpg

of course, i was 100% against getting it because it looked like a pain in the arse to install....you have to dig a huge f'n hole to bury the basin....in the pic, it's covered with rocks...but it's there....in a hole that like 4'x4' and about 2' deep.....and because i knew it would be a f'n headache with dirt & sheet getting into the bain/pump & constant maintenance.

anyway....the future son in law did most of the digging & install...so that was huge...but the damn thing only worked properly for about 2 weeks before the pump slowed down & barely any water was pouring from the small bowl.  then it stopped completely.  so i spent saturday pumping all the water out of the system...and it's bigger than it looks in that pic....and trying to clean out the basin since the pump was surrounded by mud.  it worked great....for about an hour. <_< then the water flow slowed down again.  it''s been holding steady since, but only a matter of time before it shuts down again & i'm back to f'ing around with a f'ing bowl of water again.

in conclusion...don't get a water feature.

Maybe put some pool chemicals in there to control the muck

if my man's wife wanted the Schuylkill river look, it's going to take a lot more than pool chemicals.

Sister in-law came over with some marigolds.  Planted them by the tomato plants.  Watered, weeded, and mowed around the garden.  Then I did nothing. Didn't answer any calls either.  Didn't go into the office today, still working from home.  Not ready to deal with actual people.  I'm just a little over whelmed with so many things to do that I'm struggling just trying to focus on one thing.  My right ear is ringing and it may just make me certifiable.

don't try to do too much at once. go at a pace you can handle. there's enough stress in life with what you've gone through recently...no need to add more outside bs like yard work. the yard will be there when you feel like doing it.

what's the best weed barrier you've used for your lawn projects?  we're doing a small patio area & i hate weeding.  i've heard of people using cardboard or tarps instead of the store bought weed fabric...what works best and is priced reasonably?

Gasoline

We did not go to reptiland. We initially planned Lake Tobias or 6 flags drive through safari.

Last night when I checked, it looked like Lake Tobias was only open on weekends right now, and there was no availability for the 6 flags safari (you need an appointment these days because of the covid).

So this morning we set out for Reptiland and while driving I told Mrs HE to just check and make sure Lake Tobias was really closed. They werent.

So we went to Lake Tobias. Did the driving safari, and then the zoo. I had never been there before. It was nice. And it was the cheapest of all the options we had in mind.

There was 0 people wearing masks. They were recommended. I put one on to go in and it was so uncrowded I pretty much was able to keep it off the whole time because distancing was not an issue. I was the only one that even had one with me. Literally no one else at all in the entire zoo except all the workers.

Lake Tobias is a nice little find out in BFE Pennsylvania.

Wife, daughter and I went to Rickett's Glen yesterday and hiked the Falls Trail - perfect day as far as weather was concerned.  I was shocked by how many people were there on a Monday - guess everyone else had the same idea we did.

Was planning on taking the family up there later this month.  My family used to have a hunting cabin not far from there.  Such a nice hike.  My wife and kids have never been.

Make sure you spend some time on the beach while you're there if you want to see NEPA at its finest

Think I might skip that part.  My kids are still young.  PTSD from such an activity could be devastating to them.
