Well there's nothing Orwellian about that.

It just means that real academic freedom can only happen at private universities (where all the rich kids go).  Public universities in Florida will peddle conservative ideology.

Honestly, the most likely result is that it's does very little except wreck the recruiting classes for FSU and UF.  And if it does, they'll burn DeSantis at the stake.

IDK. State university athletes are typically immune from academics and everything else outside sports. I don't think DeSantis's survey means much of anything to them. But yeah, once the first big recruit declines or transfers, they'll be calling for his head.

I don't think it'll have much to do with actually surveying the athletes.  DeSantis doesn't care if a football player is Karl Marx's great-grandson as long as he can play and the UF boosters/his major donors (they're the same people) stay happy.  It'll have to do with the uproar from the left, and justifiable in this case since this is pretty straightforward 1984 thought police stuff.  It'll create a campus uproar and draw national attention, putting pressure on highly recruited kids to stay away and choose one of the multiple other offers they're getting from major programs.  Why not play at Alabama instead?  It's a better program and doesn't come with this baggage?  Or play at Georgia?  Just as good if not better program and you get to make a statement?  It's a no-brainer.
