"NFL to engage fans through Reddit in content and advertising partnership"

Yeah that's just setting up AMAs which is a scheduled thread started where people can ask a player or whoever questions and they will respond to some (or their rep will while pretending to be the player or whoever).

But that doesn't mean they actually run the team's subreddit.

I didn't think they necessarily ran the reddit, just change their loyalties to it.

Who goes to the website anyways?

We were the online secondary.   Not very important in the scheme of things.

Fyp

They wanted people to go to reddit, FB and IG.

I tried FB groups for fans but the repeat topics and the way FB algorithm bumps certain posts and buries others sucks and conversations and replies aren't as easy as in this format.  This may feel "old school" but it's the most organized method for discussion IMO.

Now do you finally realize this is a business and they do things to make money and not listen to us arm chair GM/HC/Owners...

This. ^^^

The original EMB cost the team money - peanuts by their standards, but whatever.  So they shut it down.  The guys who saved us from oblivion last April did it at their own expense and because they're legit members of the hardcore Eagles community and kept it going.  They care more about Eagles fans than the organization does.

Years ago, the official Eagles website used to be great. Groundbreaking, better access than most franchises offered. Then they devolved into just another sub-forum of the NFL site; engrossed in their own self-promotion. I can't remember the last time I went to philadelphiaeagles.com. It's dumb.

Once upon a time, the Eagles had the best web site and forum out there. Really. It was real. Then they stopped caring about fans and quality, started cutting corners and now have one of the WORSE web sites online. The web designer... looks like a 3year old did it, but that would be an insult to 3 year olds. Once you stop caring about quality and just want $$- your business begins to fail, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, but it WILL fail.

I suspect the NFL wanted homogenized websites.  Many of them look like clones of each other.  The Eagles website used to be one of the best, but I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL told them to conform to a scaled down format.

Thank you.  Then you are among the previously referenced "guys who saved us".

We'll all get a chance to chip in again I'm sure. To me it's worth a few bucks to have a place to talk Eagles among other things

I'm in my 19th year on this forum.  Great topics, fascinating characters and you get to know the personas of the people here.  I'm happy to contribute.

FYP

I thought there was some standardization of NFL team sites that led to elimination of message boards

Correct.  The NFL decided it wanted all team sites to be similar.  On top of that, the EMB was a tiny percent of fans compared to all the fans chatting on social media sites so it was for them an easy thing to cut.

you got me beat. i joined the old board in ‘03.

Some of the personas have multiple personalities. I don't blame the Eagles for getting rid of their message board. Too much babysitting required. They just want your money, not your written opinions.
