Do Howies other picks make up for round 2 disaster?

I think he had a ok night one. I mean I wasn't a fan of the pick but it is a position of need and reasonable people can debate both sides. A disastrous second night and a pretty good 3rd day. But I can't get the wasted second pick out of my head.

I feel the same. On face value overall it looks a good draft. We added speed, we added youth and we added players at positions of needs. It's early days so let's see how it plays out but yeah I mean I can't shake that terrible second round pick either.

we wont know realistically for a year or two. I would say we need 2 WR's to legitimately pan out, along with a LB and or the Safety... so 3-4 productive starters out of 10 picks in 2 years....

which isn't impossible, but Historically, we usually aren't that good at drafting.

how do you guys allow yourselves to become so hurt over bad second round picks like we aren’t used to this by now? I went into this draft expecting a disaster the same way I do every year. It’s easier for me that way.

recent second round picks:

2019- arthega whiteside

2018- goedert

2017- Sidney Jones

2016- seumalo

2015- Eric rowe

2014- Jordan matthews

Goederts decent but let’s not kid ourselves and pretend we draft pro bowlers every year. Howie may be the worst talent evaluator in the league and cannot be relied upon not to screw up the draft. I’ve accepted it.

Yeah. I've always been a Howie defender and I still like his trades and contracts but he has no business drafting.

As I said before I think this draft was a big win all over. Besides the obvious speed factor, I appreciate how we really took ST serious. It's a sneaky strength for us now.

How convenient to forget Sanders.. 😂 And Seumalo is a third round pick that will start this season.

Rowe and Matthews are not on Mr. Roseman. So what we really have to measure him with is:

Goedert - starter (quality), Sanders - starter, JJaw - we don't know yet, Jones - probably bust

4 picks, 2 big hits / 1 bust / 1 unknown.. pretty good. And there is still a world where this season all 4 of them could work out..

I liked a lot of the picks, although like all drafts we will wait and see.

But I still can’t get over using a second on a guy, who will only be relevant if your starting QB gets seriously hurt in 2021-2023. There were plenty of other insurance options for Wentz that don’t involve using a high draft pick.

Imagine this draft, but with Fulton or Espenesa instead of Hurts.

I was okay with Reagor in the first and pissed with Hurts in the second, I think Howie had a great third day and helped ease the pain of his mistake. I feel a lot of us will never get over the second round pick unless (God forbid) Wentz gets hurt and Jalen comes in and plays well maybe winning us a few games, if that happens Howie will look like a genius.

The trouble there is that hitting on day 3 picks is notoriously hard to do and so whilst on paper it looks like a good haul we have to give it time before we can truly determine whether it was or not.

Well on a very positive note, there probably isn't going to be an NFL season so Howie will get a reprieve for a year before we can say he absolutely sucked!!

I agree, my point was on day 3 he was able to bring in some decent prospects, he added a pick for next years draft and he picked up Goodwin for basically nothing. There are no guarantees any of the day 3 draft picks will turn out for us or any other of the 31 teams for that matter.

As far as Hurts goes, if he plays well in the packages they use him in or if (again God forbid) Wentz gets hurt then Howie deserves kudos for using the second round pick on him and a lot of us will be eating crow, myself included.

I liked the Reagor, Wallace, Hightower and Watkins picks. Absolutely hated the Hurts pick. The rest... eh, don’t love them or hate them, we’ll see.

I have come around on Reagor. He had a good day three, but Day 3 picks have a far lower hit rate so winning Day 3 still isn't any guarantee.  But just because he had a good Day 3 does not change my view because he could have a great draft.  Instead Round 2 has limited chance of contributing and Round 3 is a project.  The first 3 rounds are the most important and you spend 2 of those 3 picks on guys who will not contribute to this team in the near term and maybe not ever.  That's a waste of prime assets.

Draft picks can't be compared to each other or used to offset each other.....they each have to stand on their own merits due to the round in which their taken, the position they filled, and how they contribute and develop.

While we're all still frustrated by the Hurts pick, it can't be measured simply by what we all expected or what we thought the eagles needed or even by who the eagles COULD have drafted.  It has to be measured by how Hurts contributes this year, how he develops and and what option he gives the team 2-4 years down the road.

A pick like this has the potential to look brilliant in a few years.....and even OK this year if he's given a chance to contribute but none of us want to see that happen due to a Wentz injury.

On paper day 3 looks pretty good. But you never know. To me it looks like high risk, high reward kind of picks across the board which I don't mind but only time will tell

It's a shame Ruggs was the first WR off the board and they couldn't trade up for Lamb, but I'm happy with Reagor. He fits the Eagles' needs. The way the rest of the draft went... Well that's kinda the reason they grabbed Hurts at #53. Howie said they considered the board, they saw players they liked that would be available at upcoming picks. So they took Hurts while he was still there. We'll see how it works out.
