Giants once again off to a good start

I'm sure the executives at FOX are already looking for ways to "flex" Giants-Eagles out of Christmas Day.

And I'm sure the NBA is very happy with what happened to the Giants Sunday night.

I'm not a Giants fan by any means, but an L is just an L no matter how ugly....and it was historically ugly.

But Dallas isn't this good.

Giants aren't this bad.

There is PLENTY of football to be played before anyone even considers Christmas.

At what point do the Giants bite the bullet and bench Jones? This season, so far, he's thrown 2 TDs and 6 INTs.

WHY did they sign him to a new contract?

i actually think Jones has semi impressed.  11 sacks & 26 pressures by the Seahawks?  The blocking is WORSE, the offensive weaponry is STILL over dependent on a RB that's had like 6 great games in the last 3 years, and the defense is still a superstar and a half dozen pieces short.  In 2 full offseasons the Giants new regime has done NOTHING to improve this roster.  Nickels if anything has proven he's somewhere between a competent game manager and a top end backup, one of the top 15-35 Qb's in the game.  I still think he can do just about anything Tannehill can do.

I firmly believe its the roster over Daboll/Jones.  They were 28th in pass block win ratio last year, they are worse this year. It takes about 3-4 stars and a dozen solid parts for a good defense, they got half of that.  They are pushing Darren Waller as a #1 target, FF owners sold high on that dude 3 years ago!  This roster is a JOKE!

Very good question. I'm assuming they thought if he had some offensive weapons he may be able to perform better after career low interception numbers and the best completion percentage to date (although it's better this season). They weren't going to get a blue chip QB picking where they were in the draft either without making a trade. He now has more interceptions this season than he had in 16 games last year. It seems likely that last year was the outlier and now they're stuck paying him 40 million a year while they're best offensive weapon has been injured and proving why you don't draft RB's early or give them big money deals. They need to rebuild and last year gave them some false hope that they're actually better than they are

Gettlemen was SKEWERED for building his roster around a RB.  Here we are TWO years later and the Giants don't stand a chance to score without that SAME RB!  Waller is a fringe top 15 TE these days, they are forcing the ball to him cuz its all they got.

I read one of their MBs and the fans are just losing their sheet. Over the QB, the drafting, the GM, the Coaching Staff. Might be a tough season for them.

NY has all the incentive to re-sign him with the negotiating leverage the team has.  Having a top shelf QB can be a double edged sword in today's NFL.  You need to pay the guy when his rookie contract expires.

The Giants have the luxury of signing Danny Dimes to a short term prove it deal with a more modest salary and incentives built in.  They can minimize the cap impact where other teams like the Eagles will have some maneuvering to do to get the cap squared away.  Once the mess that Gettlemen left is cleaned up, the Giants can position themselves to lock up a premiere QB.  Jones' situation actually gives the Giants that luxury.

Of course the Giants didn't follow this advice, and now look at the mess the team is in.  $40 mill a year for Danny is a joke.

Oh, and who is coaching that OL???

Here's a Giants board that I've had occasion to read from time to time:

Right off the bat I saw a guy dissecting the roster unit by unit.  There isn't a single unit outside of RB when barkely is healthy that would even be considered league average.

@BKLYNYG I haven't read through the thread, but what's the general thought among Giants fans on Jones' new contract?

I’m happy and Giants fans overall are very happy. The contract is not exorbitant, will look like a bargain after the next crop of QBs is signed, and there’s outs in 2 years if he underperforms. Guy played well last year with nothing around him. Fans are excited to see what he can do with NFL caliber receiving options.

Ironically, these are the first two unread posts I have in this thread.

@BKLYNYG : Just curious what the temperature is in Giants country on the contract since that seems to have been brought up a bit this week after MNF.

.... because they could have used that pick to get a player help to build an OLine that won't get their QB killed.  And on average, Oline players careers last much, much longer than a RB, thus a greater return on investment.

Oh I'm not defending Gettlemen in the least, I was on him for years before they finally canned him.  I'm saying the new regime is even worse.  Two years in and this offense still revolves around Gettlemen's mediocre core of Jones/Barkley.  We're still talking about the giants offense hinging on Saquon and i don't even know he's a top 5 RB when healthy anymore.  he's definitely not top 5 when you factor in availability.  The OLine is possibly even worse and the cornerstone defensive players are also still Gettlemen's middling core.

This ain't baseball, you can flip an entire NFL roster in 2 full offseasons.
