Ranking every NFL offense from 1 to 32 going into the 2021 season - The Athletic
29. Philadelphia Eagles. Last year: 28th. Their best recipe for success is to implement a run game that involves a heavy dose of Jalen Hurts. On paper, the Eagles should have a strong offensive line, but their best players are all on the wrong side of 30. Hurts completed just 52 percent of his passes last year, but he produced 0.12 EPA per play, which would have translated to about the 21st-ranked starting QB if extended over a full season. The Eagles are counting on rookie Devonta Smith to have a big impact and for second-year player Jalen Reagor to make the leap. This group could reach mediocrity if the run game clicks, but it has a low floor. Head coach Nick Sirianni will be calling plays in the NFL for the first time and is a complete unknown.

Tier 5 - The Rest. Philadelphia had a chance to upgrade at quarterback this season once they traded away Carson Wentz, but instead elected to address the wide receiver position and turn the keys over to Jalen Hurts for at least a season. DeVonta Smith has the potential to make a massive impact even as a rookie. He is one of the most technically sound receivers to enter the league in years, with passes thrown his way in college resulting in an NFL passer rating of 153.4. Hurts may put a cap on how good this offense can be, but he also raises the floor with his threat as a rusher.

Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Jalen Reagor did some good things - BGN
JALEN REAGOR: We’ve been waiting for Reagor to do something and he finally did on Thursday during WR vs. DB 1-on-1s. Nick Mullens lofted a fade to the Eagles’ 2020 first-round pick in the back right corner of the end zone. It didn’t look like it was going to be completed as it was a little too high ... but Reagor stuck his hand up and made an incredible one-handed grab to ‘Moss’ Darius Slay. Easily the best catch of training camp thus far. Nice to see! (Update: The Eagles posted video.) Unfortunately, Reagor failed to win his next two reps. Slay’s sticky coverage prevented him from getting any separation on their next battle. Reagor absolutely dusted Slay on their final matchup but failed to catch the pass after getting wide open. Really nice route! But gotta finish that. Reagor had a solid catch along the sideline during an 11-on-11 that prompted Nick Sirianni to run up to him and put his arm around the receiver. Some positive reinforcement for Reagor after Sirianni previously chewed him out on Wednesday. That rep might’ve been Reagor’s most successful play in team drills; he’s been more effective in 1-on-1 than 11-on-11. Though, Reagor did have another short catch on the boundary where Nelson really tried to rip the ball out and he held on.

Jalen Hurts is the presumptive starting quarterback for the Eagles. It’s just not his official title. That might continue to be the case for a few weeks. Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni told reporters Thursday that "there’s no rush” in naming Hurts the starter ahead of Joe Flacco. "We’re just not there yet,” Sirianni said. The noncommittal answer didn’t help dispel a CBS report that trade talks have intensified between Philly and the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson. Sirianni neither confirmed nor denied the validity of that development when asked about it. "I’m not going to talk about the hypotheticals with rumors,” he said. "All I can tell you is that every decision that we make here is a group effort. How and his staff and myself, we’re working together to get the best 53 out on the field every Sunday.”

"But we’re there and we’re coming off the beach at night and there’s a wedding going on at the hotel we’re staying at. We had to walk through the area of the wedding to get to the elevator to our room. And there was a groomsman and he was like, ‘Hey! Can you stay right there, I’m going to get the bride and groom.’ So I think it was like 20 minutes, I was in the wedding party photos. And there was an Eagles chant that happened—’E-A-G-L-E-S’—after every one. And I’m like this is pretty cool. I just saw my son staring at me, he’s six, like what the heck is going on here?

DeVonta Smith and the Eagles Draft Curse - Football Outsiders
There are more recent draft busts, near-busts, or injury cases at other position groups. At left tackle, 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard is in the process of losing his job to Australian behemoth Jordan Mailata. Center Landon Dickerson, this year’s second-round pick, is still on the mend (not unexpectedly) from the ACL tear he suffered at the end of last season. Linebacker Davion Taylor, last year’s third-round pick, left the field on Tuesday with a quad injury. Throw in the guys who aren’t even around anymore (Sidney Jones, You Know Who) and the Eagles have very little to show on the field right now for the top three rounds of their drafts dating all the way back to 2014. There’s Hurts, of course, running back Miles Sanders, sturdy guard Isaac Seumalo, defensive end Derek Barnett (having a strong camp), some prospects such as Dillard who are maxing out as just another guy, plus the 2020/2021 receivers. That’s it. There’s no young core, just a dusting of hopefuls atop a thick permafrost of aging veterans. (Ed. Note: In an upcoming ESPN+ article, Football Outsiders will rank the Eagles 25th out of the 32 teams in talent under the age of 25.) It’s fashionable in Philly to blame Howie Roseman for the last half-decade of unproductive drafts.

Could Andre Dillard become option for Rams in the future? - Turf Show Times
There has been some thought that Dillard could become expendable by the end of training camp, just two years after he was a first round pick. The Rams would not be high on the waiver priority but for a team that’s looking for answers as to the future of their tackle position — including their own International player in Max Pircher — any option is something worth considering.

Texans still want too much for Deshaun Watson - PFT
Per a league source, the Texans still haven’t softened their trade expectations for Watson, despite the lingering uncertainty regarding his career. It’s an odd position, given that teams are reluctant to acquire Watson given the possibility that he’ll be indicted by a grand jury, tried on criminal charges, and potentially convicted. The latest twist comes courtesy of Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, who reported on Thursday night that the Texans have stopped returning phone calls from teams interested in Watson. That’s quite possibly because the Texans are sick of getting lowballed for Watson.

There are several hundred athletes waiting for a team to give them a call up for training camp. These players are actually so desperate they are hoping other players get injured to open up a roster spot for them. Watson occupying one of these spots to aimlessly stand on the training camp field is quite possibly the most vain and impartial act in Texas sports history. Watson isn’t helping the offense get better by playing on defense. He isn’t helping the defense get better by just standing there. He isn’t helping the coaches evaluate talent. He’s merely helping his own bank account. Deshaun Watson isn’t helping the Texans and never will again.

The backup quarterback position is an obvious point of weakness on this roster. Before the addition of Barkley, it was Logan Woodside and DeShone Kizer battling it out for the No. 2 job behind Ryan Tannehill. Barkley now adds another arm to that competition, one with considerably more experience. Barkley was a fourth round pick back in 2013, falling to the Eagles. He played two seasons in Philadelphia before moving on to spend one season in Chicago. Barkley has since spent the last three seasons as the backup in Buffalo.

The Giants are counting on Golladay to man the "X” receiver position and help open up their offense as a whole. The "2-3 week” timeline should get Golladay back on the field about three weeks before the start of the regular season.

Retired Colts QB Philip Rivers Hasn’t Completely Closed the Door on a Late Season NFL Comeback - Stampede Blue
While he had obvious shortcomings regarding his diminished arm strength and a complete lack of mobility, Rivers commanded the line of scrimmage, largely avoided pressure, and was incredibly accurate for the Colts this past season. He played pretty smart, efficient, and winning football—even if it wasn’t necessarily spectacular by any stretch overall. The energetic grizzled field general brought much needed leadership in the locker room. That being said, with newly acquired starter Carson Wentz expected to miss 5 to 12 weeks recovering/rehabilitating from recent foot surgery, the Colts theoretically need Rivers now—not late in the season, where their postseason fate may already be well determined.
