Let's keep track of the our changing climate and how it effects our daily lives.

I'll start it off with the forecast for NO this weekend

If that verifies NO is in trouble, and right on/near Katrina anniversary.   Was over on my weather forums after you posted this earlier and it may go a bit more east.  Are you down there?  If so, stay safe.  May want to make a plan, just in case.

Wait, a hurricane is hitting a coastal town?! 😱

How big would this storm be with a stationary climate?

can we talk about the 10-15 or so tornados that have hit the delaware valley this summer ?

Water vapor accounts for 75% of global heat retention.

Can 't we just get rid of all the water on this planet?

you mean in a single day?

BTW, I am fine with this being both a thread to track disasters that "could" be related to global warming as well as silly banter.  We need some levity in CVON.

Nah, just a weather nut like yourself ;)

Global Fire Map

NASA EarthData

small_current_firemap.jpg

The NASA earth data fire map accumulates the locations of fires detected by moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the Terra and Aqua satellites over a 10-day period. Each colored dot indicates a location where MODIS detected at least one fire during the compositing period. Color ranges from red where the fire count is low to yellow where number of fires is large.

The About Rapid Response Imagery page provides more information on usage guidelines, product quality, and algorithms for the fire location data.

Same as usual for just about any 10 period. Wanna see a good one, look at July 29-Aug 7.

This map would lead me to believe the entire east coast is on fire and the west coast is barely touched. Kind of the exact opposite of reality. Other than that, cool map.

It's just where the grills are concentrated for picnics during that 10 day period. Vegans on the left coast don't grill brother!

We just don’t cry about our fires like those hippies out in California.

If they made a soy and tofu monitoring system the color emanating from California would burn the retinas.

The past few years we have gotten more and more small tornados in NJ.

Mt. Kilimanjaro Ice Cap rapidly retreats, 85% of 1912's ice cover vanished..recent surface melting not occurred over 11700 yrs

ice cap of Mount Kilimanjaro has been reduced by more than 80% since it was first mapped in 1912 and it is anticipated to be completely gone in 20 years

comparison of area covered by ice cap (snow) at Mt. Kilimanjaro between Feb. 1993 and Feb. 2000

Kilimanjaro, taken from British Airways flight

The ice atop Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania has continued to retreat rapidly, declining 26 percent since 2000, scientists say in a new report. 85% of the ice cover that was present in 1912 has vanished. It is anticipated to be completely gone in 20 years. Surface melting like that seen in recent years has not occurred over the last 11,700 years.

The impact of these events and the precursor that they offer of the trends to follow e.g. - droughts, intensified storms, floods, sea level increase and famine, are all a result of global warming which, according to an organization (IPCC) of 2,500 scientists from 130 countries is a result of human-caused activities that produce greenhouse gases.

This dynamic planet just seems to absolutely refuse to surrender to any climate models, doesn't it? Yeah, I like our stubborn little mudball.

We can’t even convince people to take a life-saving vaccine. I really doubt that we can convince people to do something about climate change until there’s a lot more death and destruction.

This thread should have started out with the UN report released earlier this month:
