They’ll now place TE Tyree Jackson on short term IR … that way he can be added back to the roster and contribute this year rather than being shelved for the entire season had they put him on IR prior to the cutdown deadline. That will open a roster spot - I believe they will then bring back Rodgers. I think they’ll probably also have interest in bringing back Howard but needed a roster spot for another player they plan to place on short term IR (or they want to bring him back after week 1 when his full 2021 salary will no longer be guaranteed). Hard to think they roll with only 3 RBs. Why wouldn’t they just keep Rodgers and waive Stoll then? If we’re working under the assumption that they only go with 3 TE after putting Jackson on IR.
September 1, 20214 yr I rather they just find another undrafted running back or someone that has some upside that gets cut. Some one a bit more versatile I'm done with Howard he clearly is not the same anymore and hasn't done much of anything in 3 years now and 4 years removed from being that back that was one of the best runners in the league. He has zero versatility and teams know exactly what is coming with him on the field
September 1, 20214 yr Rodgers was the second best TE on the roster last year, hard to believe he's now worse than Jack Stoll, I wonder if they're still shopping Ertz around hoping for a last minute deal out of Buffalo (because the TE's they kept aren't NFL starting caliber). Not many surprises otherwise, I find it hard to believe there were that many receivers in the 90 worse than JJAW, honestly would rather have given Butler a proper shot, the embarassment of the front office of dumping a 2nd round pick is all that's saving him, because 2 receptions in the most candy assed preseason football I've ever seen isn't a breakout.

Guess it really depends on how they really feel about Stoll, Rodgers, and if they plan to go 3 TEs on the 53.

And this year, in both camp and preseason games, JJAW has shown more. Granted, that doesn't say much. But, if it's a choice between the two, JJAW was better. (Ourch! Typing that hurt my fingers. And my Eagles-loving soul.) But in terms of in the actual NFL then we have at least seen Fulgham produce but not JJAW. Basically it's not a good choice, neither player is very good.

Would have been nice to keep Jacoby Stevens to say all the picks made it, but they already went heavy at LB and he must not have been roster ready. He'll likely make it to the practice squad and could be a factor in TC next year.

If they do that could open a spot for Stevens. Or they could elect to add to a different position group (WR? RB?). Stevens likely needs a year on the PS to develop, especially with the position switch (S --> LB).

But it is interesting that Patrick Johnson made the team switching from DE to LB while Stevens got cut switching from S to LB. Most likely, Johnson was just better. But we also could read into that as a sign of what Gannon wants to do with the position. If one LB, call them the SAM, is going to be blitzing and playing on-ball, guys like Avery and Johnson will be a better fit for that. Edwards is just a 2-down run stopping LB who, as you said, might not fit. And Taylor and Bradley, if they ever get some seasoning, are the smaller, very fast guys who might project better into coverage and made it over Stevens.

Tucker talked up Johnson quite a bit during the 3 preseason games. Once Ostman was waived with an injury designation it was down to Avery vs Johnson for that SAM spot. Not surprised both made it since Avery is banged up ATM. Perhaps he is another candidate like Tyree Jackson to go to short term IR making him eligible to return this year (I think after week 3 at the earliest?) vs having put him on before roster cuts which would have shut him down for the entire season. Taylor another candidate for that short term IR too. I think we'll still see a few moves, roster not set yet.

I think JJAW is gone if they see someone they like in the final cuts lists, he couldn't get a snap ahead of walk ons last year, I struggle to see that much of an improvement, I just think all our other WR's sucked worse.

Agreed but at least the guys that we were hoping would be good looked good for once and hopefully we wont have to care if JJ is on the team or not.

Two very good points ... if all equal (both suck) then retain the one you invested draft capital on and about the coaching staff. JJAW's rookie year he had Walch as his WR coach who stunk. Last year the entire team and coaching staff was a complete flustercluck ... hard to make any kind of evaluation from the 2020 season on any player. Sirianni is a former WR ... maybe these guys are able to get the most out of him (whatever that is).

I could but they didn't use a pick on Fulgham. If I'm gonna waste my time with 2 sheety players I'm gonna waste it on the one that I actually invested in. Travis can go play in the streets till they need him again he won't go anywhere.
September 2, 20214 yr https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/09/02/eagles-sign-hassan-ridgeway-place-three-on-injured-reserve/ Eagles sign Hassan Ridgeway, place three on injured reserve Posted by Josh Alper on September 2, 2021, 1:12 PM EDT The Eagles made some changes to their active roster on Thursday. Defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway is back with the team after being cut earlier this week as the team dropped to 53 players. The Eagles had space open up for Ridgeway because they placed tackle Jack Driscoll, tight end Tyree Jackson, and cornerback Josiah Scott on injured reserve. The Eagles have left two spots on the 53-man roster open for the moment. Ridgeway appeared in 14 games for the Eagles over the last two seasons. He had 19 tackles and three sacks in those appearances. Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Marlon Tuipulotu, and Milton Williams are the other defensive tackles in Philly. The Eagles also signed tight end Nick Eubanks, wide receiver KeeSean Johnson, and defensive tackle Marvin Wilson to the practice squad.
