PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. Highest: RB Kenneth Gainwell, 78.7. Lowest: DI Marlon Tuipulotu, 30.5. The fifth-round running back did more than enough this preseason to make veterans like Jordan Howard expendable. Gainwell impressed through the air, just as he did at Memphis, with nine catches for 66 yards on only 33 routes. He’s firmly a change-of-pace back from Miles Sanders.

Despite being a constant subject of trade rumors in the offseason, it appears Zach Ertz will remain with the Philadelphia Eagles this year. The veteran tight end finally broke his silence on Wednesday and indicated the relationship between him and the organization has been mended. It still seems possible that Ertz could be moved before the NFL trade deadline on November 2, especially if the Eagles struggle and find themselves as ‘sellers.’ For now, though, Ertz is here. But are the Birds planning to trade another one of their tight ends? Former Eagles reporter Matt Lombardo had an interesting note in a recent FanSided column.

The Colts’ offensive line is very banged up: The Colts could be without LT Eric Fisher and LG Quenton Nelson to start the season. Fisher is still rehabbing an Achilles tear from last season, and now is also recovering from a positive COVID test. Nelson, meanwhile, like Wentz, has a foot issue and also may not be ready for Week 1. The Colts also lost Sam Tevi for the season with a torn ACL and MCL. Tevi is thought of by some as one of the Colts’ top offensive line reserves, though he had some rough moments in the Colts’ preseason games. Still, losing him for the season before it even begins is especially bad timing, and may have led to the Colts’ trade for Matt Pryor.

Practice Squad - Iggles Blitz
Depth is the most important part. Players can be ready to join the active roster when there is an injury. In recent years the league has changed the rules and allowed some veterans to be put on the PS. That’s been a good change. It helps to keep those players employed and it helps the team. Jordan Howard is a perfect example. He is a veteran role player. You aren’t developing him for the future. The Eagles will activate him when they need help at RB. Howard can step in and play right away. Player development is obviously more of a long term thing. The Eagles liked JaCoby Stevens enough to draft him. He got hurt this summer and wasn’t able to earn a roster spot. The Eagles saw flashes of ability from him, but Stevens needs practice to develop his game and adjust to the NFL. The PS is perfect for him. OL Kayode Awosika wasn’t drafted, but he’s got NFL ability. He needs time to hone his skills. I was worried some other team might claim him, but he made it through and now can develop his game.

Fletcher Cox: There’s a couple, man. There’s two people. I’ll go with 1a and 1b. I’ve gotta say Quez (Watkins) because I’ve seen this guy work his balls off all camp. He just wanted to come out and show everybody what he’s capable of doing and I think he’s doing a good job of it. And Josh Sweat. I’ve seen this coming and Josh has been having a good camp. I expect a lot of good things from him this year.

This isn’t a question of whether he truly wants to play for the Texans. It’s a question of whether he’ll tell the Texans he’s ready to play in order to force Houston’s hand. With Tyrod Taylor, Jeff Driskel, and Davis Mills on the roster, what happens if Watson says, "Put me in, Coach? I’m ready to play.” That could be the only way to get the Texans to trade Watson during the 2021 season.

The issues along the New York Giants’ offensive line have were discussed ad nauseam since Kevin Zeiter’s departure. New York had the coaching hubris to suggest there wasn’t an issue. Still, the preseason alluded to an unfortunate truth - all five of the projected starters are relatively unproven, and the depth poses concern. The retirements of Zach Fulton and Joe Looney made the problem worse. The Giants made a pair of trades with AFC North teams with less than two weeks to go before opening kick-off. They acquired 2018 first-round pick Billy Price from the Bengals for B.J. Hill and a seventh-round selection. The next day they traded a fourth-round pick for 2020-fourth round guard Ben Bredeson, a fifth-round pick, and a seventh-round selection. The acquisition of Bredeson was a necessary move to improve the immediate depth, and Bredeson has the upside to start on this line.

My X factor is Keanu Neal. We are all excited about Micah Parsons, but his expected starting partner in the nickel defense has the potential to really harass and baffle offenses. He can line up at any level of the defense as required. He can rush the passer, stuff the run, or drop in coverage. Parsons has some of the same flexibility and more speed, but Neal has veteran savvy and should start the season as the best linebacker the Cowboys can put on the field. Other teams are likely to have their eyes on the rookie because of that disruptive speed, which will also put Neal in a position to make an impact. Parsons will surpass Neal, probably by midseason or so, but he still has a lot to learn about the NFL game. And Parsons needs someone beside him he can rely on and trust. I think Neal is that guy, and he will be a driver for the overall success of the defense.

Ron Rivera Presser: Our confidence is high in Curtis Samuel, but if he isn’t 100% we won’t play him - Hogs Haven
Ron Rivera opened his post-practice presser talking about WR Curtis Samuel who has been dealing with a groin injury for what seems like his entire time in Washington. Samuel will work back into practice with the team on Monday as the team works in pads. Rivera’s level of optimism is very high that Samuel will be ready for Week 1. He doesn’t feel that Samuel needs extra work with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, and he already knows the offense that OC Scott Turner runs. Rivera also said that Samuel won’t play if he’s not 100% game-ready. He won’t return before he’s ready for a full workload. Rivera said the faster guys take a little bit longer to return from groin injuries. You don’t want them to tweak the injury coming back too soon. Samuel’s speed and quickness are coming back, and he’s been getting his rhythm back catching balls on the side field.

The Indianapolis Colts have activated center Ryan Kelly, quarterback Carson Wentz and wide receiver Zach Pascal from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, according to Zak Keefer, a writer for The Athletic. All three starters missed a total of five days after being considered "close contacts” with a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

I think Gainwell is going to be a really good addition to this team! Especially with Sirianni looking to use his RBs as pass catchers.
