here's what might happen in my dreams, anyway.  3 speedy wide receivers catch passes all over the field.  Hurts and Sanders run for over 200.  Siriani unveils a screen game that reminds of the best years of Reid, McNabb, and Westbrook.

yeah I know..

Hate to break it to you, Ertz is back, Lowie is in control. 12 personnel all day.

"They played with energy, poise and a sense of purpose. The last three years, especially in 2020, there was hardly a game without a puzzling plan, call, or decision. Why was Zach Ertz blocking DeMarcus Lawrence? Why did Carson Wentz throw into triple coverage? Why was Darius Slay singled up vs. DK Metcalf? Why was Hakeem Butler on the field, let alone your first read on a pivotal fourth down at the goal line? Sirianni and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, for the most part, put their players in position to succeed. Can you ask any more of a coach?”

Well I could ask why did he go for it of 4th and 4 or why he decided to run the ball with Gainwell on 4th and one, but other than that a good start for Sirianni.

Meh, I consider that just being a bit more aggressive then necessary. Have to dial that back some.

For a moment I felt like it was Doug 2.0. I don’t mind them being aggressive, but 4th and 1 with a rookie smaller back just seemed odd. Also why run it on the edge around the TEs. None of them block better than the front 5 can. Heck Mialata was killing people out there. 😂

He could of been thinking with Gainwell in, the falcons would play the screen game or short pass.

I'm pretty sure the aggressive play calling is a Lurie and Howie preference for analytics style coaching. I'm thinking it wasn't big balls Doug as much as it was that's what Howie wanted. The problem is once Reich left we saw that Doug dialed up horrific 4th down plays. Like running Wentz on a QB sweep with a broken back and a bum knee.

Just my thoughts after watching Nick dial up 4th down plays and going for 2. Looks like this is what the FO wants. I don't have an issue with it, that kind of play calling got us a super bowl. I just hope Nick is better at calling the right play

Honestly I saw a few teams going for it on 4th down this past week. It just seems like part of football now. Don’t mind them doing it, but they have to call better plays.

Agreed. I always went for it on 4th down in Madden I was always ahead of the NFL and their analytics lol

It does appear that this coaching staff understands how to play to this roster's strengths.

It sure felt that way and that’s critical.  If a clock control, dink and dunk offense works because the personnel is best suited for it, I’ll take it every time.  The big play, deep ball passing stuff is only exciting when it works, and tends to leave a lot of time on the clock.  No sense in trying to shoehorn that style of play in for variety’s sake when you aren’t sold on your players to do it.

It'll take weeks before they really gel with whatever Sirianni does.......although they looked good on sunday.

First game........good results....but they'll need to be better in the coming weeks....

DCs around the league will be dissecting the game footage from Sunday..so don't expect things to be as easy in the next game..and here is where Sirianni has to prove his worth....will he adjust this week or will it be Be Chip (run the same plays every week) Kelly all over again

Well Chip won his first game as well.  Heck Doug won his first three as a HC.  Still a long way to go for Sirianni but I feel encouraged.  Lets see how his O fares against a way better D in the niners.

I don’t agree.

Were some of those 4th down calls questionable? Sure.

No coach gets all his calls right though.

I like the agressive calls, and they worked for us ALOT. But when they do work people forget them pretty soon. It’s the headscratchers that stay in mind.

I said I liked the aggressive play calling.....

I actually think the 4th down calls were fine. I like the aggression in those circumstances. The play calls however were not great. But hey if they convert on those opportunities then you say good play calls. Coaches live and die by their big decisions and I think ultimately Sirianni deserves credit for being brave but criticism for the play calls.

I was just saying I think that the FO is the ones that are asking for it from their coaches

They were phenomenal in 2017 with those calls and in some years after but it seemed to go down hill with the calls being made towards the end.

Yes, and while I agree the FO urges coaches to go with the analytics, I think we have a very selective memory towards them. Plenty of these calls were good, even recently, but we just remember the really weird ones.

True I get what you are saying now. I'm all for it though. If it doenst work it doenst make it a bad call it just didn't work that time. Like you said that's all people remember.

I had zero issues with any of the aggressive calls Nick made though. I thought he did well for the first time.

I was more referring to in 2018 when Wentz is coming off of a torn knee and then a broken back and he was running QB sweeps to the outside with him.

I don't mind going for it and I don't mind the play call specifically but at that time with how Wentz was that is just completely idiotic.

Ok to be totally honest: Running Gainwell through the middle on fourth down was a bad idea. But I am glad he went for it when he did.

His first game as head coach, as play caller- he looked really good.

We might have fired a good coach to hire a better one. But let’s wait and see, it’s only the first game and I haven’t seen enough yet (unlike Hurts, of whom I said he will be a star for ages now).

I'm just trying to be happy for when things go well instead of nit picking all the bad stuff and saying over and over again that they will have to play tougher games and they still have to adjust. Like no sheet. Its exhausting that we can't enjoy a good game without being told by 20 different people that they will play tougher games and they have to adjust. Yeah yeah yeah no sheet people lol.

I'm not directing this at you I'm just trying to enjoy a good game and the growth for a rebuilding year. Last season burned me out with all the crap surrounding this team.
