Report: Andy Reid leaves stadium in an ambulance after falling ill

Posted by Charean Williams on September 26, 2021, 5:17 PM EDT

Andy Reid had a chance for his 100th career victory with the Chiefs, including the postseason. He instead ended the day with his 45th loss since arriving in Kansas City in 2013.

Even worse, Reid fell ill after the game.

The Chiefs announced that Reid is sick and unavailable to answer questions from reporters. He left the stadium in an ambulance, James Palmer of NFL Media reports.

Reid did speak to the team postgame, Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star reports.

The Chiefs had special teams coach Dave Toub take questions from reporters.

Reid, 63, was on the sideline for the entire game.

"He just wasn’t feeling well after the game,” Toub said via Kerkhoff. "He did talk to the team, and it was a good talk. Pretty much, ‘You have to quit the turnovers.’”

The Chiefs had four turnovers in the loss, with Patrick Mahomes throwing two interceptions and Tyreek Hill and Clyde Edwards-Helaire each losing a fumble. The defending AFC champions are 1-2 and in last place in the AFC West.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid left Arrowhead Stadium via ambulance following Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers for precautionary reasons, NFL Networks James Palmer reported.

The Chiefs announced that Reid was feeling ill after the game and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Dave Toub spoke to the media in place of Reid.

Palmer added that players were informed that Reid should be OK and that they were not aware that Reid was not feeling well.

The Chiefs (1-2) visit the Eagles in Philadelphia on Oct. 3.

He's fine there

I don't root for him or the Chiefs on the field, (unless it helps us), but I don't wish ill health on him either.

They said he's fine it was all just being cautious. It was 95 degrees there today probably got sick from the heat.

He put himself In better position not to die.

Weird. He left via ambulance, but his assistant said that it is nothing serious, and he should be back soon. If it is not serious, then why leave in an Ambulance? Could someone just drove him to the hospital?

Do NFL teams keep an ambulance at or very near the stadium during games? If so, and the game was over the ambulance may have been ready to return to its home base anyway.

It could have potentially been a heart attack or something serious like that, so it's the best precaution to let medically trained people transport him. That way, they at least have the training to look for problems as well as the things needed if a larger emergency presents itself during transportation.

The guy is 63 and morbidly obese, they probably want to take precautions.  They're paying him millions, why not an ambulance ride just to be safe.

I hope he’s ok but let’s call a spade a spade, Andy is grossly overweight. He better change his lifestyle or he’ll never make to 70 years old.

You just don’t see many old, obese people out there. It’s just a fact of life.

Meanwhile, on the way to the hospital...

"Hey guys,  (clears throat)  there's a Taco Bell coming up on the right.   Can we hit the drive through for a few gorditas?"

With his age, lifelong weight problem and high-pressure job, it's a small miracle he's alive right now.

In case anyone is taking bets, I'd say he had a bout of diarrhea and dehydration. Maybe there was something bad in the pregame spread. Quick trip to the hospital and some IV fluids, he's good as new.

So it hasn't been made public what happened?

Yes it was said throughout the week and in this thread it was dehydration...
