Kind of embarrassed for the country that 44% still believe in the media. It's similar to believing in Santa or the Easter Bunny. 70% believe Trump's bull crazy claims of election fraud. Belief and reality are not always correlated (see election fraud; see god/religion). Why do they believe reporters are misleading people? -- Duh KZ, maybe, ugh, duh, it's because Trump and his enablers shouted "fake news" for four years. Just like they shouted election fraud. You can't read too much into those stats -- as clearly Americans will believe just about anything if said to them long and loud enough by certain people.

There are literally hundreds of documented cases of bona fide fake news in this thread and the one on the old boards. We don't have to discuss it like it's a conspiracy theory.

It could be any number of things: 1. sloppy reporting 2. bad information/informant 3. Scramble to be "first" -- get the scoop 4. Fog of war 5. Editing errors 6. actual intentional biased reporting You need to more clearly define what you mean by "fake news". Is it -- 73 people died when the ship sank (later reports, found it to be 63). Is that biased reporting, jumping the gun when not all info is yet available, or the fog of "war"? "Fake news is written and published with the intent to mislead in order to gain financially or politically, often with sensationalist, exaggerated, or patently false headlines that grab attention." See "intent" is important. I think many things that you and other crazies jump on as "fake news" are the result of errors (not intentional acts).

Hey, if that makes you feel better that over half of all Americans think the media is intentionally misleading the public, that's great. Whatever helps you sleep at night, man.

I think that Americans think that, because they are easily misled by people shouting "fake news" all the time -- without defining it or using any nuance (like you).

You have many false assumptions in your little snarky post. ] I'm saying that by shouting FAKE news repeatedly for 4 years (Trump and his enablers among them), it has made all sorts of people THINK less of all news sources (liberal or otherwise). Bashing the media constantly (no matter who does it) affects mass opinion. The hot take is that what you posted isn't necessarily facts or data on what is actually fake news or how much fake news there might be -- since it was merely data on what people "believe". And what people "believe" is, in many instances, entirely ridiculous -- hence the 70% that believe the recent presidential election was fraudulent and the many people who "believe" in a sky daddy controlling our lives. Do you understand now -- or do I need to conduct a master class on data and statistics?
March 31, 20214 yr lol CNN just casually throwing this line in to an article about trans sports ban: Quote It's not possible to know a person's gender identity at birth, and there is no consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth. https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/30/politics/south-dakota-transgender-sports-kristi-noem/index.html Gee, I just don't get why some people don't trust the media anymore.

Stop changing the subject or moving the goalposts. Don't post stupid stuff, and then when you are called out on it, try to say, well I meant this, not that. I get that you think there are malicious instances of "fake news" by the media. YOUR cite from Greenwald did not prove that though.

So in an argument about why 56% of Americans don't trust the news, I'm moving the goalposts by pointing out there's hundreds of documented fake news stories right in this very thread? That makes absolutely no sense. Anyway, this argument is going nowhere. Please commence the master class you promised. I came to CVON to learn today.

Because you say a story is "fake" news, and you point out something erroneous in the story, doesn't prove "intent". But thank you for finally conceding, however obliquely, that your Greenwald "belief" link doesn't prove anything.
